Early games include Arkansas @ Auburn and Mississippi State @ Kentucky, but the afternoon features a double main event:
LSU @ Florida, followed by Georgia @ South Carolina. Both games feature top 10 teams colliding, and have huge SEC/BCS Championship implications. I’m pretty sure legendary pro wrestling announcer and college football fan Jim Ross would describe both games as “slobber knockers”.
For non-SEC fans, there’s W. Va @ Texas, Miami @ Notre Dame, and Nebraska @ Ohio St.
Holy shit…blow out in the making in Columbia. South Carolina up 21-0 on Georgia with 5 minutes left in the first quarter. Just scored on a 70 yard punt return…
Credit to Notre Dame, who is having another excellent defensive outing. Michigan, Michigan State, and Miami (still some game left) all shut out of the end zone. Kudos to Navy and Purdue to making it to double digits against them.
Notre Dame utterly destroyed Miami yesterday. I don’t think they threw a pass in the 2nd half and still put up 28 points. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd string running backs got touchdowns. Miami had lots and lots of self-created problems, but it was still a depressing game to watch.
I was at the ND game last night, and apart from the first 10 minutes where it looked like Miami had a chance to exploit the Irish’s slow, unresponsive secondary, it was pretty boring. It was my first game in Soldier Field, and the environment was pretty cool - but as for the game, it was just ridiculous how well ND controlled the ball and the game. At the beginning of the season, it looked like they had a pretty tough schedule to get through, getting increasingly harder and harder. Well - the tough games are still near the end (Stanford, Oklahoma and USC are all ranked), but it’s looking not quite as intimidating. I still think the Irish have a lot to do in the secondary, but my misgivings about Golson were somewhat mediated by his performance yesterday - he seemed to do a bit of growing up after having his wrist slapped.
