2012 Fantasy Football - general discussion

Heywatd-Bey - Bleacher Report says keep him if you can afford the roster spot. What does The Dope say? Also, is Kevin Smith a drop? No touches at all last Sunday. Aberration or sign of things to come?

I would drop Smith. DHB is looking like he won’t miss as much time as previously thought. The neck injury (the scary part of the hit) turned out not to be nearly as bad as they thought it was. The concussion will be healed by the time the neck is. He should be back on the field in a couple of weeks, and he is one of the primary receiving threats on a team that throws a lot.

Rodgers has been off to a relatively slow start, but now he gets to feast on New Orleans. If he doesn’t end up putting up 25+ points I’ll be dissapointed.

Got him in 3 leagues.

God my teams are on the skids. Players like Wes Welker, DeSean Jackson, LeSean McCoy, Steven Jackson aren’t doing dick for me right now!

Tell me about it. I have him in 2 leagues…though it could be worse, I have Romo in the another one :smack: (I had the last pick in the draft).

Welker had 8 catches for 142 yards last week! He’ll get into the endzone - you just can’t rely on WRs finding paydirt every single week, though.

Probably a sign of things to come, but the Lions haven’t said anything about it and Leshoure wasn’t particularly impressive Sunday. I’m guessing Smith tweaked something in warmups or was quietly been benched for a disciplinary violation. There’s no reason otherwise that he wouldn’t even have been on the field, because he’s by far the best pass protector and receiver of Detroit’s backs.

All but one of my decisions this week have been made due to injuries. Unfortunately, I’m left with kind of a biggie:

RGIII vs. Tampa or Rivers vs. KC

I’d be 3-0 instead of 2-1 if I had started RGIII week 1. But Rivers is facing a terrible KC team, and I feel like he could torch them.

What’s the consensus out there?

Rivers has 4 scores and 5 picks in his last six against the Chiefs, so that’s not good. I don’t pay much attention to those statistics, though; only three of the Chiefs’ current defensive starters played for them in 2009. I’m starting him.

I’m also still not sold on RGIII.

I have the same issue, whether to start RGIII, Rivers, or Stafford.

In the three weeks, I have picked the wrong QB three times. That kinda hurts.

Tell me about the TB defense. They’re 32nd against the pass, but 1st against the run. Is that the whole story? Will RGIII be able to throw on them? They’re average in sack numbers, but can they put pressure on?

Of course he did because he was on my bench.

They are partly 32nd against the pass because they’ve been playing with a lead; if you look at the average YPA they’re not quite as bad (4th from last).

They have been phenomenal against the run, though; they’re first in YPA as well as total yards.

The pass rush has been okay (no sacks against Eli on 50 zillion attempts, but 7 in the other two games), but it’s gonna get worse; Adrian Clayborn just went on IR. Da’Quan Bowers is supposedly coming back in a few weeks and is a better pure pass rusher.

Historically, the team has been really good at containing running quarterbacks. They stuffed Cam in Week 1, too.

FWIW, per Football Outsiders, the Bucs’ D is 10th against the pass, 3rd against the rush, 9th overall. It’s still way early to make a definitive determination though. They also like Minnesota’s D: 14th Pass, 10th Rush, 13th overall, and I don’t know how I feel about that, upset of SF aside.

K.C., even at home, and with Tamba Hali and Brandon Flowers back, is just so Godawful on defense, I’d be tempted to go with Rivers. Moreover, is Garcon still out? Do we think Hankerson could be a decent replacement for him? If not, that’s one more reason to go with Rivers.

:frowning: Sadly, I think 25 points is probably a minimum to expect. The Saints defense has been beyond horrible in the three games played. Rodgers and the Packers are likely full of righteous anger after the screwjob in Seattle, and I’m afraid they’re going to take it out on my poor Saints.

Garcon is doubtful.

Pick 2 of these 4 RB this week. Arian Foster, DeMarco Murray, Michael Turner, BJGE. Foster is a definite. Murray has been my #2, but BJGE has a good matchup this week and I just picked up Turner after his drafting owner panicked about the DUI… and he’s playing the Panthers.

For single position decisions, there’s no good reason not to trust the experts. Yeah, they can’t always get them right, but they also get paid to analyze the ever-lovin’ shit out these week-to-week rankings. Here’s ESPN’s Week 4 projections.

I thought you guys were the experts…

Not until the check clears.

Foster, Murray. When in doubt, don’t bench your studs.
