I started cutler Marshall and chi d in my f league like a dumbfuck fanboy. Week is over on Thursday. Gotta be a record.
I had Jennings starting in at least two leagues.
I’m trying to figure out why Benjarvus Green-Ellis is generally ranked so low everywhere I look. I got him for $2 in my auction (an auction with a $500 cap!) and expected to go much, much higher. He’s the undisputed starting running back on a decent team. He has literally never fumbled the football in his career. He’s only 27 and he has fewer than 600 career carries, so workload is not likely to be a factor.
What am I missing?
Demand, maybe? I dunno - I agree he’s low. How big is your league? He seems to be an ideal RB3 - a guy you can pick up late and not worry about because you didn’t spend much on him.
He’s rushed for a thousand yards only once? He’s never caught more than 12 passes in a season? He’s tied to an offense that wasn’t very good last year* and probably won’t be very good this year? He couldn’t lock down a starting job in New England even though the other tailbacks on their roster were mostly undrafted scatbacks and pensioners?
Don’t get me wrong. He is, as Munch says, the perfect RB3. He’s also a ridiculously good deal for $2 (Fantasy Football Toolbox says he’s worth $29 in a $500, 12 team draft). He’s just not going to be anything special.
He’s just under the radar due to the way New England runs its offense. The Bengals will utilize him a lot more than NE ever did, and despite getting trounced by the Ratbirds, Law Firm turned in a respectable game. 18 carries, 91 yards and a TD.
He’s a good second-tier back and doesn’t fumble. I’d love to have him as my flex guy or something.
RNATB, he’s rushed for 1000 yards only once because he doesn’t get the attempts that other backs get. He will get a lot more attempts with the Bengals and the Bengals just improved their run blocking too.
Well, that’s kind of my point. Bill Belichick is not exactly a poor judge of talent. If BJGE was worthy of lots of carries, he’d have had them.
Is there any reason to consider Boldin over Bowe as my WR3 this week (along with Julio Jones and Mike Wallace)?
Figures…I had Clay Matthews for one of my defensive players, and he scored me lots of points!
Oh, but the guy I’m matched up against has the Packers as his Defense/Special Teams “team.”
FUCK!
Our league manager made some really weird rules…like, why do we have a whole D team AND individual defensive players? Isn’t it usually one or the other?
Oh, and I forgot to put in Cedric Benson, so there’s 12+ points I missed out on…what are the odds Reggie Bush (who I would have benched) will get more?
Yeah, that’s weird.
Bush will do fine. He ran all over the Texans even though there isn’t a single other real threat on the Dolphins’ offense.
Don’t join a league where the commish fucks with the settings to that extent - it’s absurd.
I’d say Bush has a 75% chance of outscoring Cedric Benson on any given week.
No, the point is not that BJGE isn’t talented…the point is that the NE offense throws the ball a LOT and uses multiple RB’s. The Bengals don’t throw the ball nearly as much as NE likes to do, which means BJGE will be more productive there than he was in NE. In fact, barring injury, I predict he will match or surpass his yardage and TD totals from a few years ago when he rushed for over 1,000 yards and had 13 TD’s.
The only thing I’d worry about is that Miami is going to be playing from behind a LOT this season, not so much Benson in Green Bay. Bush is more talented but may not get nearly the second half carries that Benson will.
Bush is extremely active in the passing game as well. He’ll get his. Benson is not involved in the Packers overwhelmingly dominant passing game - getting 20 carries is an anomoly.
Ok, another request for some help in the dynasty league.
The league voted and we are having a 4 round suplemental draft to expand rosters to 24 players. People were complaining that there were too many good players out on the wire…whatever. My problem is, I have no idea who I am going to pick in the draft (this weekend). Does anyone have some really deep sleepers in the RB position that I might want to look into? I am not used to going quite this deep to look for talent, and all the obvious guys are taken. I know who I want in WR and am set at TE and QB so I only need help with RBs. All the lists and analysis that I am finding were written, primarily, before week 3 of the preseason. Things have changed since then.
To give you an idea the first pick int the draft (it’s a slow draft we couldn’t all get together on a draft time) was Emmanuel Sanders.
Oh yeah…forgot that. And with a rookie QB tossing the rock, Bush’s value goes up even more as he provides a nice safety outlet target for underneath throws.
The Pats use multiple backs when they don’t have a good one… but when they do have a good one, they use him.
Corey Dillon averaged 251 carries over three seasons from 2004 to 2006. New England’s lead back the following year was Laurence Maroney, who as you may recall was useless, so he only got 185 carries. The lead back the next season was Sammy Morris, who was also pretty marginal. Then back to Maroney for 2009. I think you get the picture.
In 2010, BJGE became the guy, and (just) managed 1000 yards. Last season, they went back to RB-by-committee, but it looks like Stevan Ridley is going to get the ball 20 times a game this year.
I assume Ogletree and Steven Hill are already gone? You might want to snap up Tashard Choice. He’s the #3 in Buffalo and he might see meaningful carry totals with Fred Jackson out (CJ Spiller is not exactly known as a bell cow).
I think Dallas Clark is going to put up usable numbers in Tampa (I took him as my only TE in the SDMB Big League), especially from a PPR perspective. Josh Freeman threw the ball at Kellen Winslow far too much (82% of his league-leading pick total last year came on throws to Winslow). Clark is at least as athletic as Winslow and a much better route runner. Everyone seems to have forgotten about him because of age, but he’s only 33. Reggie Wayne is the same age and relies much more on his speed, and he caught 12 passes last week.
Long gone. In fact Hill was a key piece in a trade that was just posted last night. Choice is available though. That’s probably a good call. I’ll target him with my first pick, and it looks like Clark is available too. I’ll pick him up also if I can, I agree with your thoughts on him.
Eh, still, BJGE does a good job given his chances. Cedric Benson needed 321 carries to get 1111 yards in 2010 and 273 to get 1067 last season…and he only scored 7 and 6 TD’s respectively in those years…while BJGE gets double digit TD’s in both those seasons on far fewer carries. At least for the Bengals, I consider it an upgrade, especially since he’s never fumbled once in his NFL career.
He’s a decent mid-level fantasy back, and as the featured back in the Bengals offense is perfect for a flex spot.
