2012 NFL Pre-Draft Discussion

In an effort to continue his pre-eminent reign as Admiral Dickwad of the USS Cheap Shot, Jeff Fisher has signed Cortland Finnegan to join him in St. Louis for 5 years, $50 million dollars with $27 million guaranteed.

I’ve already left the Rams rooting section when they hired Fisher, and now I can feel better knowing they overpaid for a thug. Now excuse me so I can go re-watch Andre Johnson just pound the shit out of that little fucker.

I was wondering what the hell you were talking about.

I didn’t see the post but I have a hunch it was about the following tweet:

It is of course a fake Adam Schefter twitter account but it got mentioned on Cleveland radio before the lie was spotted.

What the fuck? They were talking about how Steinbach was ahead of schedule on the recovery and doing great.

And really, Hillis on a 1 year, $3 million deal? We couldn’t fucking break the bank for that? Does this mean they’re drafting fucking Richardson, or is fucking Montario Hardesty going to have a glorious spin move before shattering his knee again?

That’s the one. It was retweeted a few times on my timeline by actual, real sources and for a few moments people were going nuts. Just took a few moments before I noticed myself and edited the post. Silly me. I wanted it to be true so badly. :frowning:

$3 million seems an awful lot for a head case who averaged 3.6 ypc last year and has a whopping one good year on his resume. Draft Chris Polk in the fourth round and call it a day.

Steinbach had about seven mill due to him this year, the Browns wanted to restructure, Eric wanted to test the market. I’d love to see him resigned at a more suitable salary.

3 mill for Hillis, either he just wanted out of town or the team wanted him out of town. He’s worth a 3 mill prove it to me contract and it’s a fine pickup for the Chiefs. 24 hours and counting but the team is weaker today than they were two days ago. With all due respect to Frosty.

“Far more productive and durable”? Hardly. Jackson’s had one major injury, and though Marshall catches lots more balls, Jackson’s go for lots more yards. I’ll admit, I would rather have had Marshall yesterday, but then two things happened: (1) Marshall’s woman-beating in a nightclub broke, and (2), another Bucs fan pointed out that V-Jax complements the Buccaneers’ existing roster much better. We already have a ton of guys who can go over the middle and catch 10 yard outs; all we had to stretch the field was Arrelious Benn, and his production has been spotty to say the least.

You might say, “Wait, that shows how good Vincent’s contract is! He’s way better than DeSean.” You might say that, but you’d be wrong. They’re very, very similar players*.

Vincent Jackson (2008-11) 52gms / 201rec / 3619yds / 28TD
DeSean Jackson (2008-11) 60gms / 229rec / 4085yds / 21TD (7TD rush/ret)

Even if you throw out Vincent’s 2010 where he sat out most of it and include his 2007, he comes out to 63gms/228rec/3994yds/28TDs, which is still eerily similar. Shockingly so, actually, because I would have rated Vincent Jackson a tier higher in terms of WRs in the NFL.

I’d rather have had DeSean Jackson, actually. I know how productive he’s been because I had an argument with someone here last season about how badly he deserved a new deal. Plus, he’s a factor in the return game.

Theoretically, V-Jax should be better all rounder because of his size, but while both can get wide open over the top, he can’t beat guys off the line like DeSean.

Well, the Cowboys finished tinkering with their secondary, signing Brodney Poole. Now they just need to find a blocking tight end and middle linebacker who can compete for the starting job.

Rumor is that Mario Williams went straight for Buffalo, stayed there overnight instead of taking his scheduled plane to his next stop, and will sign with them.

Which just pisses me off. I understand Cleveland isn’t a top free agent destination - all else being equal, they’ll want to go to a contending team or somewhere more geographically desirable… but Buffalo is right down there with Cleveland, so if Buffalo could wow Williams, Cleveland couldn’t make a push?

Buffalo looked like a playoff team for the first part of last year and Cleveland didn’t?

It looks like Mario Williams to the Bills is a done deal since there is a press conference coming up soon, although nobody has confirmed it in public or explained the terms other than saying it’s a six-year deal. I’m excited.

Isn’t Cleveland still running a 3-4? Williams fits much better as a rush end than as a 3-4 end or rush linebacker (though he did pretty well as both in Houston after they switched to a 3-4).

I’m a little pissed off that the Buccaneers didn’t take a run at Williams, seeing as we’re spending like drunken sailors, but maybe they think Da’Quan Bowers is fully healthy now.

No, Cleveland has been 4-3 since last year.

Maybe it’s just that Buffalo is kind of close to interesting places. Also, kind of close to interesting.

Buccaneers sign Dan Orlovsky for 2 years. Strikes the right balance between offering zero threat to the young quarterback of the future and not sucking completely if the YQBOTF gets hurt, I think.

SenorBeef, considering Cleveland is not getting Flynn, are you on board with going after whichever QB gets spurned in the Peyton Manning drama? i.e. Tebow or Locker? I’m no fan of either of them, but I like them better than McCoy or Tannehill.

C’mon Bengals, do something to appease me!

Davis signed a two year deal with Chicago. Lovie says that he’s an above average run blocker and an exceptional athlete, so he’s got that going for him, which is nice.

Super Mario’s contract with the Bills is for six years, worth $96 million with $50 million of that being guaranteed. He finally displaces Julius Peppers as the highest paid defensive player in the league.

Here’s hoping he lives up to that. Buffalo needs something to love.
