Locker isn’t going anywhere, he’d just end up having an extended apprenticeship under Manning. He looked really good last season. Tebow might get moved, but I can’t imagine anyone other than Jacksonville bothering to give up anything of value.
The real targets would have to be Kevin Kolb, actually a great fit considering the similarity to the Eagles system or Matt Hasselbeck, good considering that he and Holmgren have a long standing bromance.
Still haven’t seen the terms of this deal yet. I’m very happy to have him back, but I’m curious what the market for unproven TEs is right now. I’m getting very excited about the Bears offense this coming season, which never happened under Angleo. Forte will have a monster year with all this help and we’ll be able to spend those draft picks on BPA instead of filling needs. We could go WR, OL, CB or LB in the first 3 rounds and not be in desperate need of a starter anywhere.
Rumors have us looking at OJ Atogwe which might be an outstanding addition. We were close on him 2 years ago, so we’ll see if the interest remains.
I thought it was a little strange that the Saints went out and grabbed Ben Grubbs to replace Carl Nicks. I know they need to protect Brees but if they decided Nicks wasn’t worth the money why spend 80% of the same price on a lesser player? If you’re going to lose Nicks I think a smarter move would have been to focus on getting younger and cheaper on the OL through the draft and investing elsewhere, they still need to pay Brees after all.
6-years, $96 Million for Mario Williams. Presser on it’s way. $50M guaranteed for injury. Good move for Buffalo.
The Browns signed another Eagles’ castoff, this time DE Juqua Parker. He’s a little older, but he’s been surprisingly productive for the Eagles over the last few years. He’s had some injury concerns lately, but if he stays healthy he’ll probably produce above average numbers.
He just had no place in Philly with their All-World D-Line.
Today should be the day that the Arizona Cardinals signal their intent with respect to Peyton Manning. They either have to pay Kevin Kolb his $7m roster bonus or cut him. Pay Kolb and you’d think that Manning must have told them he’s not interested. If they cut Kolb, the management will need to go full bore to get Manning because otherwise they wind up with Skelton at starting QB (did OK at the end of the season but I don’t think he’s got enough to be a long term solution) and no back up of note. I don’t think Arizona will be looking at Tannehill or any of the other second string QBs as they need help on the OL and at rush LB which they’ll be looking to sort out in the draft, so it is Manning or Bust for Barkley in 2012 if Kolb goes today.
Whichever way around, there should be at least a minor degree of clarity on who is in for Manning by the end of the day.
I don’t really get why Arizona is interested in Manning. Their pass protection was so bad last year it wouldn’t have mattered if they’d had a tank with a football launcher back there.
Their pass protection is bad - but it’s not helped by QBs who don’t get the ball out of their hands quickly. Manning would at least do that - and probably improve the OL’s stats as a result.
Also, there is this. They don’t have a very good QB on the roster. Manning is a very good QB. He will make the team better because QB is the most important position on the field. Frankly, I don’t see why Arizona wouldn’t be interested in him.
I am hoping that they address the OL in the draft. Martin or De Castro from Stanford both appear to be projected to fall into range of the Cardinals pick and either would improve the OL.
Hey, we NEED a defensive lineman! We just lost two to FA already and one of them was a Samaon, and they’re magical! Plus, you have that Clay Matthews guy. You don’t need to put anyone else out on the field on defense but him and his hair.
