2014 College Football General Thread

Because I love LSU when they aren’t playing FSU, and because I love an upset, I turned on the Gamecast for this just as the 4th quarter started. Thanks for the heads up!

So far, even with just the game cast, it’s been awesome!

Nice 18 yard run there, LSU!

ETA: All running plays and all of them successful! STAY ON THE GROUND, TIGERS!

Touchdown LSU! On a pass, no less! Nice job, Tigers!

DEEEEEEEE-FENSE!

What a drive.

lNTERCEPTION! THE TIGERS WIN! THE TIGERS WIN!

The LSU/Ole Miss is one of best CFB games I have ever watched. I only went channel surfing was during Halftime.

LSU could win out and turn the SEC topsy turvy.

With Ole Miss still to play Auburn

With Bama still to play Miss St

With LSU still to play Bama

With Bama still to play Auburn

and with Ole Miss to play Miss State.

Its gonna be helluva end of the season.

The only thing wrong with the game is the unsportsmanship penalties that both teams had.

I assume everyone saw the funny touchdown in Ark vs UAB? The formation before the snap is mind-boggling:

That and a poor coaching decision on the last play for Ole Miss. Even with the penalty, it’s a 47 yard attempt. I’d try the FG and hope for OT. With no time outs left, too many bad things can happen on that last pass…and one of them did.

Still, a classic SEC game. Did not turn out the way I wanted, but it was fun to watch. Miss State won a game that was closer than the 45-31 final indicates, Bama cruises over Tenn, and Auburn wins a shoot out with SCar…

Seriously questionable play call at the end by Ole Miss.

Whew, that was close, I thought Gameday was going back to Oxford MS for the Auburn/Ole Miss game this Saturday.

Fortunately, all the knives and sharp object can remain in the kitchens of B1G faithful as the Gameday is going to Morgantown, WV for the TCU vs West Virginia game.

Just from memory, I think GameDay has been to two locations this year where people don’t talk funny*: Eugene OR and Fargo ND. Every other stop has been in Florida, Mississippi, Texas… it would be nice if they would occasionally pay lip service to the idea that college football is played all over the country.
*joke.

You think people in Fargo don’t talk funny?!

I could see that coming and didn’t know how to stop it.

Remember: YOO-gene, wuh-LAM-met, AW-ruh-g’n.

A college is in trouble with the NCAA for luring prospective football recruits by throwing parties that served alcohol to underage attendees, and even having cheerleaders and female student athletes “date” the recruits.

I know, yawn, they’ve been doing that at Miami forever.

Except it wasn’t Miami this time. It was West Point.

The polls are, as usual, royally biased. Nebraska and Michigan State get rewarded for their victories by staying about where they were, while LSU skyrockets several places. ND jumps up for beating Rice. Let’s hope the committee does a better job, but I’m not holding my breath.

Nebraska beat Rutgers…Woo hoo

Sparty beat Wolverines…Woo Hoo.

Total of two B1G wins…and one of those wins was a forced win. (They played each other)

I remember about 6 years ago, ESPN watchers were forced to see a countdown (for about a month) of the Michigan vs Ohio State.:dubious:

BTW, BLD, have you figured out how the B1G is competitive in Baseball?

I’m no LSU fan, but come on. They were ranked #24, and beat the undefeated #3 team in the country. MSU was ranked #8, and beat an unranked, four-loss team. Seriously, which would you expect to have a bigger jump?

I agree than ND typically gets way more consideration than its performance warrants, but this year they really do have a good team.

The week 6 poll had MSU at #10 with a 3-1 record, losing only on the road to #2 Oregon after leading for three quarters in 95 degree heat. Of the teams ahead of them, Notre Dame lost to FSU, UCLA lost twice, Baylor lost to West Virginia, Texas A&M lost three times, Auburn lost to the other MSU, Oklahoma lost twice, Alabama lost to Mississippi, Oregon lost to unranked Arizona at home, and FSU remained unbeaten. Now at 7-1, MSU has gone up a total of two slots with everybody ahead of them but FSU losing at least once? Bias!

Sparty has not beat anyone…a few B1G teams. Big Effing Deal.

The only real team they played, they lost by 19 points.

Nebraska? They practically lost to McNeese state.

81 is the most given up by an FBS team this season, but Georgia Southern put up 82 against Savannah State around Labor Day.

I noticed that the recruiting involved “dinner with female cadets”, according to ESPN. I can hear the screaming from women’s groups now, and Senators McCaskill, Hagan, Shaheen, Gillibrand, and Hirono’s (the female Democrats on the Armed Services Committee) phones are probably ringing off the hook as we speak.

This could rank up there with the 1950 cheating scandal.
