UNDEFEATED!!! For two weeks in a row. Make that three, because we have never lost to next week’s opponent, BYE.
You are correct that there is no history between FSU and The Citadel, but in light of the past and the culture at The Citadel, I’m not terribly surprised that the players would think that introducing gratuitous violence into a football game would be a good idea.
An extra week to bask in this unfamiliar but pleasant feeling. I think we* may actually win 4 or 5 games this year!

My Gamecocks finally started putting something together last week vs a pretty decent ECU team. I’m actually encouraged that our upcoming loss to UGA at home will merely be unpleasant instead of embarrassing. I’m going to be at the game, so look for me in the nosebleed section from the overhead blimp shots. I’ll be the guy wearing garnet.
I’ll be pulling for you, Bubba! My suspicion is that Steve’s going to be pulling out his trusty can of Whip-Ass for the boys to get a good snort of. Is there a hotter rivalry (outside the Iron Bowl) than UGA-USCe?
I’m going against the chalk on that game and the Tennessee game this week. All braced to lose some Confidence Points based on my gut!
Is there a rivalry literally hotter? Not if the game is being played in that stadium SC built on the face of the sun. If you mean figuratively, it isn’t even in the Top 4 UGA rivalry games, even though the last few years have moved it up the charts some.
As a Georgia fan, I’ve been worried about this game for a long time. Still am.
Yeah, I don’t think we come anywhere close to GaTech, UF or Auburn and it’ll be awhile yet before we’re even with UT or Bama in terms of teams that get UGA VII slobberin’ good (damn y’all got a lot teams to hate!).
And sorry we didn’t have a nice gully to park our stadium in but at least the field runs north-south.
As this thread gets longer and longer thru the season, I request we make obvious in most posts which team(s) we are praising/bashing/discussing. I lose track of who is rooting for/against what team(s).
I found out years ago that a lot of the country thinks of Ohio State when someone mentions OSU. Even if that someone is in a Big12 area like Oklahoma.
Sorry, Oregon State fans. No one thinks of you guys!
I know SEC fans are a little insular and don’t care much about what happens outside of the South, but I’m sure you’ve heard of Ohio State-Michigan? Texas-Oklahoma? USC-UCLA? Notre Dame vs. about half of their schedule? Hell, Colorado-Nebraska was a blood feud until they went their separate ways.
I doubt Georgia- South Carolina would make the top 20 in a national poll. And BTW, USC is in California. It’s South Carolina.
Neither. 1 or two losses, tops. Maybe fewer. Pelini is becoming a great coach, like Osborne did. Great coaches aren’t born, they’re made so.
I think he’s saying hotter in the “currently competitive” sense.
Steve Spurrier used to be the QB coach at Ga Tech and he developed a good old fashioned HATE for Georgia while he was at Tech.
Apparently there are fans that do not think of Mississippi State when someone mentions MSU.
Understood. I was focused on the word “rivalry.” A couple of good games does not a rivalry make.
So how do people think this playoff system is going to work out? My suspicion is that only champions of power conferences (or Notre Dame if they go undefeated) need apply.
Since the committee AFAIK contains representatives of all the conferences, I don’t see them ever admitting two teams from the same conference. Whatever they do will be hysterically criticized by the teams left out, so I think they will be strongly tempted to play it safe and pick only teams that have a conference championship credential to separate them from the pack. (and I believe that is explicitly listed as a criteria they will use). The only exception might be in a weird year where more than one of the power conferences have major upsets in their championship games and end up with a champion with a record of 8-4 or something.
A scenario similar to the one that produced the Alabama-LSU rematch could see two teams from the same conference in the playoff, but otherwise, I agree it is probably going to be champs from the power conferences, with the SEC Champion having a lock on one of the spots almost every year, and the other three up for grabs.
Each conference is represented by 1 AD along with 8 other “independent” people. Funny though that the SEC got one (Archie Manning) and the PAC got TWO (Condi Rice - current Stanford employee and Tyrone Willingham who coached at both Stanford and Washington). So those two conferences have a stake in 5 of 13 votes. But don’t worry, we can trust these people (with ties to a particular conference) to be truly impartial and fair.
Aren’t they required to recuse themselves from participating when considering teams from “their” league? Or at least “their” school?
From Wikipedia:
“Committee members who are currently employed or financially compensated by a school, or have family members who have a current financial relationship (which includes football players), are not allowed to vote for that school.”
Conference and previous school affiliations (including alma mater and prior employers) are not considered to be grounds for recusal.
Oh and I found this cute:
“Advanced statistics and metrics from ESPN are expected to be submitted to the committee, though like other analytics, they will have no formal role in the decision.”
Yeah…right, like Daddy Bigbucks is going to let those guys prove his shiny new power index wrong…
