2014 College Football General Thread

They are taking the whole night game things to an annoying level now. Used to be common there was a good game at noon, one at 4, and one at night. But lately it seems like all the good games are moved to night, so you have to skip around and miss huge portions of games you would like to watch, since they re all concurrent.

Scrolling through tonights games, I find the NBC HD quality noticeably worse than all the other networks. Anyone else ever notice that?

BYU is kicking Texas’s Ass. Could be another long season in Austin

BTW, the Longhorn network has a ESPN’s Box Score on the screen and the Longhorn Radio network on the audio! The game is on Fox Sports 1.

Tough Night for B1G. Michigan, MSU, Ohio St all getting beat. and earlier, Nebraska barely beats McNeese St and Northwestern loses to N. Illinois

The Big Ten is all but eliminated from the playoff in week 2. Nebraska is about the only team that could work their way into the conversation, and they have to play at Michigan State and at Wisconsin. And the rest of their schedule is complete crap SOS wise.

After all of the buildup, waiting a whole nine months for a new football season, enjoying the hell out of last weekend? This one was a gigantic let-down for me. Bye for the Dawgs, no one in the SEC (including Ole Miss) playing anyone of note, Georgia Southern playing the predictably bad Savannah State Tigers. (I think GSU put the waterboy in a QB in the final quarter, just to give him some reps. The cheerleaders filled in for the O-line once the game was in hand. Final score: 83-9.)

But next week will be worth watching again!

Right a letter to Slive. Let him know that it’s bad enough that the SEC plays a cupcake OOC schedule, but could he at least stagger them, so not all the cupcakes are on the same week? It’s like he’s sending a note to CFB fans, “enjoy the Pac-12 this week, and we’ll see you next time.”

This is where I usually say 8 consecutive BCS Championships.

[del]Damn[/del] Thank You, Florida State. [del]Damn[/del] Thank you.

Was there a Lightning delay for the TAMU/Lamar game?

The game was scheduled to start at 7:30 et and 4 hour later they are halftime.

Agreed, but it was 101 at Autzen today, so there may be some utility for players and fans alike in going to night gamed.

Ohio State upset by Virginia Tech, 35-21 final.

Lowly Memphis hanging with UCLA, only down 28-21 in the third…

Good thing for USC the only stat that counts is the score!

I changed the channel from Oregon to Michigan for 5 minutes and came back to a whole different game. WTF?

Nice shutout, Wolverines!

Not too sure about these new Duck helmets. The feathers on the jerseys, I can see that, but this high-falutin’ break with tradition is just jarring. I hope the whole PAC-several is not going to go all arty-farty.

At least the new feathers are larger, so they don’t look quite so much like bumblebees.

Sure looking like it. Still, the PAC and/or Big12 could eat its own young and let a one-loss* OSU back in it. I think this year the Committee will do all it can to get 4 different Conferences represented in the Final Four.

FSU’s D better find it’s form fast. Clemson up next and after the ass-whooping we hung on them last year at home, they will be motivated. Young receivers are looking better, but still dropping too many and routes are still sloppy. O-line protected better this week, but still having trouble opening big run lanes.

What are thoughts on the “controversy” involving USC’s AD coming down on the field to talk with the refs during the game? Never seen anything like it and, for a member of the Committee, it showed incredibly poor judgment IMHO. I don’t think he should have to resign the Committee, but I do think it calls into question the idea of having active ADs on the thing in the first place…

*And to the lowly ACC too. Heh.

I think you nailed my feelings with “Never seen anything like it”. That was just unbelievable. And Sarkisian texted him and asked him to come down? That is just incredible. “Dadddddd!!! The officials are being mean to meeeeee!!!”

ETA: Forgot to say, I think it reflects poorly on him and the Playoff Committee. But I also think they don’t really give a shit. I expect it to be a clusterfuck and I expect the Committee to wring their hands and dither and dissemble and gnash their teeth until the Drive for Eight™ is complete.

I understand that now they are saying that Sark didn’t text him. That’s a rules violation (albeit one with no defined penalty).

In news closer to home, Citadel is now investigating allegations (admitted in a text by one of their OL) that they were targeting the knees of FSU defenders. FSU should withhold the Citadel’s payday. Fuck those assholes.

I hope criminal charges, including RICO violations and conspiracy charges, are filed against Hill and the other offensive linemen. I’m certain that civil lawsuits will be filed, but it’d be nice to know that assaulting a person is still worth criminal charges being filed.

I’d love to hear what was behind this, because this is just bizarre. There’s no history between these 2 schools, right? It’s just a paycheck: show up, get a good workout, get your butt kicked, collect the money and go home. Why would the Citadel get nasty? Weird.

Why does it rise to RICO?

BTW, Penn St. will be bowl eligible going forward, and its scholarship reductions rescinded.

My Cornhuskers won! That’s all that matters.

We’re doing better than Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State this past weekend.

Thank the AD for scheduling McNeese State instead of Notre Dame, Oregon, and Virginia Tech. Besides, RB Abdullah had an awesome play which totally offsets the fact we nearly had the biggest upset in NU history.

This was a wake-up call, nothing more. Pelini is a great coach, stop persecuting him like the pansies in the media. He found a way to win.

[/sarcasm]

So will our 7th-straight 4-loss season occur before or after the bowl? :frowning:

First big win of the season for the Ducks! This one is for all those who said Oregon couldn’t beat physical, smashmouth, Stanfordesque teams. Oh wait, I think Sparty just got stuffed on 4th and one again.
