My. That’s… ill-considered.
Well.
I don’t feel good about it, but it’s a W. Props to Okie St, they damn sure came to play. Now we have a week to tune up. Hope the boys and coaches are up to it. Otherwise it’s going to be a LONG season.
Jesus. Did Wisconsin’s Coach bet on LSU or something? WTF is up with this end-game management? It’s like he doesn’t know the clock is going to hit 0 and end the game. Did he watch a bunch of World Cup and he’s thinking there’ll be injury time?
LSU comes back from 17 points down to beat Wisconsin. Les Miles has the soul of a riverboat gambler. Ran a fake punt early in the second half that totally changed the momentum of the game.
Wonder if they’re going to try to play the Florida game tomorrow? I saw it got underway, but was called off after the opening kickoff…
Goooo Dawgs! Todd Gurley was the obvious star of that show, but I saw a whole lot of bright spots on the field tonight - QB looked solid, defense showed a lot of poise and finally caught fire in the second half (especially Floyd,) and lots of depth on offense. Even special teams looked good. If we can just stay healthy for a season…
And God must hate Florida. After losing in that final ugly game versus Georgia Southern last year, to wait all these months, and then get rained out at the Swamp? As I understand it, if the teams decide to try to make up the game, it will be October 25. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if UF chooses not to play, since they like having that bye week before the UGA game.
Not a lot unexpected for the Oregon game, though some promising newer players. I’ll miss Ekpre-Olomu when he moves on.
How could LSU and Wisconsin both be rated in the Top 20? They were both lucky to have had each other as their opponent.
Ehhhh, they’ll look good till they meet Stanford. That’s when they always choke.
Checking back in… man what a day for college football. Thank goodness it’s back! GO DAWGS! Can we claim Tailback U again? Todd Gurley is a monster. Throw in Keith Marshall, Nick Chubb, and Sony Michel, and it’s just ridiculous.
I was there for all the muggy heat, and it was one fun game. The D has me excited, the backfield looks awesome, though Mason made me a bit nervous at times. All told, it was a really great day in Athens.
I haven’t been that excited about a Georgia QB throwing for 131 yards in a long time! Now eventually, hopefully, Malcolm Mitchell or JSW will come back and allow Mason to have a credible deep threat, but for now… Feed the Beast.
Game Manager? Yes, please!
Stanford meets the Ducks’ game well. Helfrich seems like an angry, over-activated guy who can’t keep his cool. I think that communicates to the team and negatively affects their performance. Kelly was very even with the players during the game and that seems to have stabilized play more effectively.
I agree with that. The only significant variable that has changed since Kelly’s departure is Helfrich – especially last year. This year, ok, they don’t have Thomas or Huff, but all things being equal, Helfrich should be IMPROVING their game – and he’s not. The defense continues to be their Achilles’ heel.
I was unable to watch last night’s game (nonsensical conflicts between DirecTV and PacN), but I read enough to see they are still making dumb shit errors and incurring stupid penalties, despite their many strengths. I don’t envy anyone who had to step into Kelly’s shoes, but I’m afraid Helfrich just ain’t it.
Freeman sounds like he’s going to work out well, at least.
I guess UT took exception to all the upset talk. Laid the smack down on Utah State.
I won’t be surprised if they make it two in a row. And over in the College Football Belt thread, I’m pulling for them to win (and grab the belt) from Oklahoma next week!
Go Vols!
And the way things are stacked this week, Vandy may have the most exciting game in the SEC!
Well I was all set to rail against this weak slate of games, but there are a handful I want to see, so I’ll bite my tongue.
Michigan State v. Oregon - Sparty’s D versus Oregon’s O? Yes, I want to see that. If they can contain Oregon, this could be interesting. I’ve been listening to a lot of sports radio and Michigan State is certainly putting a lot of pressure on themselves here. Hope they don’t come out all tight.
Virginia Tech v. Ohio State - Lot of people calling for an upset here. I think this is the type of game where Urban Meyer typically destroys the other team. Hopefully I’m wrong! (Don’t get me wrong, Buckeyes, nothing against your team… but Urban Meyer? To hell with him!)
USC v. Stanford - This has been a fun and unpredictable game in recent memory. I think this will either be a USC coming out party, or a classic Stanford demolition job. Problem is, I don’t know which one!
Ole Miss v. Vandy - It would be SO Ole Miss to get beat by Vandy one week after Vandy loses to Temple at home by 30. Which reminds me… how did Vandy get beat by Temple at home by 30?
Michigan v. Notre Dame - I’m mostly interested because this will let us really evaluate these two teams. Is ND back to form with the return of Everett Golson? Is Michigan finally on the rise?
East Carolina v. South Carolina - Another hipster upset pick. I think there is no way Steve loses this one. Of course, the classic thing to do would be to lose this one and then go beat Georgia the following week to get the tie breaker in the East. :smack:
Yes, the rest of the SEC slate: bye, FAU, Toledo, Arkansas State, UAB, Ohio, E. Michigan, Nicholls State, East Carolina, San Jose State, Sam Houston, and Lamar.
Why would any SEC fan be for a nine game conference schedule when we would miss out on these exciting OOC matchups?!
I missed seeing the Vandy game, but 1) Rain, 2) those silly jerseys being more relevant than playing football, and 3) Vandy being Vandy.
Amen! What a waste of a week. I may follow your lead and skip all the SEC nonsense and watch some of your picks. Especially OSU and VT.
Just a side note: Chris Johnson (CJ of Titans lore) went to ECU and was a beast. Maybe they will get another star?
Interesting article on why Ga Tech and Tulane left the SEC 50 years ago.
A contrast to the what has happened in the last 5 years or so.
