Does being the best team in one of the top conferences mean nothing?

Not if you’re not actually better than all but seven other teams, no. The national championship is not tied in any way to the conferences. If it was, it might make sense to tie playoff positions to conference titles.

Four team playoff.
Only the top, say, 24 or 32 teams should be playoff eligible. Call them Tier 1 teams.
Each tier 1 team must play at least 8 games against other tier 1 teams (you can still have a few games against your traditional cross-state rivals, etc. )
But only wins against other tier 1 teams count.
End of the regular season, top four teams go to the playoffs.
Bottom four teams get kicked out of tier 1 and are tier 2 next year. Meanwhile, top four tier 2 teams move up to tier 1.

Tier 2 works the same, except wins against tier 2 and tier 1 teams count in the standings. Top four move up to tier 1 next year, bottom four go down to tier 3.

That’s circular, but wha’evs.

That doesn’t make any sense, if anything non-conference games will mean LESS in this scheme. Why play them at all and risk your guys getting hurt?

How compelling is the FCS championship each year? For that matter, you might as well put the mid-majors into FCS, and raise the scholarship limits for the other FCS schools while you’re at it.

The main problem with this is, by separating the “power five” further from the rest of Division I, you give them more excuse to withhold even more of the “big football money” from the schools that probably really need it.

TV money. That’s what it’s all about, right? There’d be a lot more really good games on if programs weren’t in terror of losing one. Or maybe you *like *seeing Ohio State play their annual MAC patsy game?

It can a damn fine game, with all the spectacle, too.

Fuckin’ Pac-12! Kick the shit out of yourselves, opening the door to all the other shitty conferences to play for the win.

Although, it was pretty watching Stanford squirm.

I just switched to UCLA v. Wazzu. Wonder what kind of shit I’ll see here? What channel is that Utah game on?

Crap! I just found it! :smack:

Wait a minute. If the Utes lose, does that put my Trojans into the Championship game for the South? We would both have 2 loses, and we beat them. I guess it would depend on the next couple games. Talk about clutch.

I need to start drinking either much earlier or much later. Think I’ll go for earlier, since the sun and all.

And Oklahoma just about makes the Big 12 irrelevant for the CFP knocking off undefeated Baylor.

On second thought, now OU might be back in the mix of one loss teams too. What a mess!

Holy shit! Holy shit! Holy shit! Holy shit!

Oklahoma State is still undefeated so there’s that to consider too.

Yep. I had a bad feeling for Baylor going into this game and then ka-BLAM!

WSU’s QB is crawling around like me when I do Tequila shooters. Shit, get some medical personal out there ASAP!

Aw, he’s up now. Good.

Gah-dam Pac-12! :smack: Utes outs.

Alright, WSU! Your turn!

Aaaand they did it.

The Big 12 is about to cannibalize itself… TCU, Baylor, OSU and OU all play each other in the next two weeks.

Remember, kids, when the Pac-12 teams beat each other, it proves that none of them are any good. When the SEC teams beat each other, it proves that they’re all really good.

QFT.

The Pac-12 is about as fucked up as Rosie O’Donnell’s underwear at this point. :smack:
