2015 College Football Omnibus Thread

What a game in Tuscaloosa. Ole Miss is for real. Bama had a couple of chances to win it, but Ole Miss did what they had to do when they had to do it. That wacky touchdown with the pass bouncing off Treadwell’s helmet will be remembered/shown/talked about for a long time.

My nipples haven’t been this hard since the cold snap last February.

So who will win the SEC this year, do you think?

UCLA squeaks out an important win after having one of their best defenders ejected early and after an abusmal first half by Josh Rosen. This was a game that will give them confidence going into the Pac 12 season. And to USC…hahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahaha to the drunken cheaters.

In the West, LSU and Ole Miss are really good. I haven’t seen Texas A&M play, but they’re at least a contender. The East seems to be Georgia out front, with Tennessee/Florida/Missouri chasing and coming up short.

I expect the West to come down to the winner of LSU/Ole Miss, and Georgia to take the East.

If I had to pick one, I’d pick Ole Miss to win the SEC and National Championships, unless LSU wins the West, in which case I’d pick them to win the SEC and National Championship.

Ole Miss has a great defense and Alabama has a not so great offense. Should have seen that one coming, but I didn’t know anything at all about Ole Miss’ offense, particularly their QB. But he looked pretty good.

Kelly is the real deal, as long as he behaves himself. He got arrested shortly after signing with Ole Miss, but accepted a plea agreement to resolve it. Had previous behavior/attitude issues at Clemson. Nephew of Jim Kelly, won a JC National Championship last year.

Watching Lane Kiffen lose after so many chances to win almost makes up for getting beat by Stanford. That Ole’ Miss game was something else!

Goddammit, I’m really starting to hate Stanford. And Nebraska! Bust ass to get to overtime, and completely, immediately FAIL!

Fun weekend.

The Thing Fish Rankings – Week 3

  1. Notre Dame
  2. Georgia
  3. Northwestern!
  4. Memphis
  5. Ohio State
  6. Utah
  7. LSU
  8. Toledo
  9. UCLA
  10. Iowa
  11. Florida State
  12. Texas A & M
  13. Bowling Green
  14. Cal
  15. Virginia Tech
  16. Miami
  17. Texas Tech
  18. Oklahoma
  19. Florida
  20. Ole Miss
  21. TCU
  22. Portland State
  23. Stanford
  24. Michigan State
  25. Michigan

The pretenders are fading away, only 4 non-P5 left. After last week’s revisions sparked rioting in South Bend, the Irish return to the #1 spot for real. It would be hard not to, being the only team 3-0 against P5 opponents. Georgia’s schedule was less imposing, but they have been absolutely splattering their opposition to reach second. Northwestern helped themselves by beating Duke and were further elevated by Stanford’s arrival in the rankings. Memphis are flying high, but that is based largely on the notion that Bowling Green was a quality win, so look for a decline soon. Ohio State gets no credit for barely beating NIU, but is helped by Virginia Tech’s win. Toledo is 2-0 against the big boys, but will need to blow out a lot of its MWC opponents to have a chance to stay ranked. Portland State enjoys its last week of glory…Oregon needs a win against Utah to avoid the whole Pacific Northwest being shut out next week. Big Ten looking like the strongest conference so far, with three teams in the top 10 and five in the top 25.

I enjoyed the BC FSU game (for the first three quarters). The students were stoked that Sportscenter was there to the point where teaching them was pointless.

I was impressed with the replacement quarter back after the first string was injured. I would not have been able to withstand that pressure. First game, on television, against a strong team. I would have just curled up in a ball and cried.

Boy, if you just looked at **Thing Fish’s **poll and the NIU / OSU score, you’d think the MAC was a power conference.

I never saw Kiffen as a great fit to a Nick Saban staff, but what do I know? Neither of Bama’s QBs was all that impressive. I’m surprised they only fell to 12 in the AP poll because I’m fairly certain they’ll lose again.

As much as I bleed the Blue and Gold (even so far as to watch the San Diego State game…in end zone seats…in the SDSU section, since my brother who got the tickets wasn’t smart enough to get into Cal), any team with a passing offense where the receivers can hold onto the ball can pretty much wear out Cal. Remember, the Texas game was a wide right extra point away from Cal pulling off another “come from ahead” (21-point lead in the fourth quarter this time).

Really glad I didn’t take bets on this. This week we lost to Furman. Granted, we were without our quarterback (and will be for the rest of the season) and only wideout with starting experience, but still.

This might end up as an old-fashioned Spurrier beatdown of the 82-6 variety.

Looks like this might be a rainy one. I’ll bring a poncho.

They can’t really be dropped in the poll for losses that haven’t happened yet.

That noted, I agree that Bama is beatable by good teams, and they’ve got to face the rest of the SEC West plus Georgia and Tennessee. I think they could lose three more games this year easily.

Gotta wonder if Ohio State’s 2 QB’s are looking over their shoulders at each other, and it’s affecting their play. Urban has hinted he may need to just pick a starter and stick with him. They were lucky to escape the NIU trap, but it’s going to keep happening right up to the MSU game with no changes.

I put Ohio State’s issues on coaching. They’re going to have to accept that they have very good players that will have to sit the bench.

I hear people around here say Cardale Jones is just trying to do too much. Hmm, could that be because he feels like if he doesn’t do enough he’ll sit his ass on the bench? So, should I throw this one away or show how awesome I am at threading this needle? Damn, picked off.

Others feel like Urban really wants JT to be his QB but he feels some obligation to Cardale for coming back this year when he could have been a fairly high draft pick. The result is a lot of flip flopping.

Myles Jack done for the season with knee injury. There goes our chances for a playoff position this year. UCLA is well positioned go be very good for a long time. Hope he heals fully. He will be a good sunday player.

Sure they can. This early in the season, with a boatload of undefeated teams who have been mostly playing cupcakes, predicting the future is at least as important as evaluating games already played.
