I know; I know. Believe me, I felt guilty writing it (that’s why it’s last). I just can’t help but root for the underdog most of the time, ya know what i’m sayin’?
Oh, let’s see. I went to my first FSU game in 1973. I went to Bobby’s first game as head coach (and his last). I (literally) cried when we lost to Oklahoma in 1980 to end the undefeated season of 1979. I was at FSU’s first National Championship game. I was there for the 5th Quarter in the French Quarter (and the Choke at Doak that preceded it).
I understand rooting for the underdog, it’s in my DNA because for a significant portion of my life, we were the underdog. The little team that could. I get it. But now we have to be bigger than that.
I satisfy my underdog itch by rooting for Navy - especially against the Irish! And it’s been a good decade by those standards…
I was in the stands, behind the goalposts, for Wide Right.
One of the few times in my life as a Seminole that we lost both the game and the party.
Maybe some of why I was impressed with Pitt beating Clemson is the fact that we came so close to beating them this year but fell apart in the last 2:44 of the game. It was kinda revenge, ya know what I’m sayin’?
Yep. I was there too. I know Gerry well and it haunts him to this day.
To get this thread out of Tallahassee, good grief, BCS 2, 3, and 4 all go down in the same day! What a strange weekend of college football.
First time since 1985.
Even if tOSU beats Michigan, tOSU probably does not get to the B1G Championship. Penn St also has one loss and they have two Cupcakes left on their schedule (MSU and Rutgers).
looks like there is a 5 way Tie for 2nd spot behind 'Bama.
Clemson, Louisville, Ohio State, Michigan, and Washington. Only one of those teams has a guaranteed loss left.
WVU has one loss and playing OU in what is probably the game of the week. Could they be a fly in the ointment? Their one loss was against a good Okie St team.
Hard to see Penn State as Big Ten champion getting left out, while Ohio State gets in without even having won their division. But it’s possible.
I have to give it up to ESPN for sending GameDay to Kalamazoo this week and the undefeated WMU team. They could have had a fourth Tennessee game but at long last the MAC gets some coverage.
Also note that if WMU wins out (no guarantee by any means - a loss in two weeks at home against Toledo and they probably don’t even get into the MAC championship game), they’re pretty much assured of a Cotton Bowl berth, which is also on ESPN.
Is that possible, or the kind of thing the committee could override?
My Nebraska Cornhuskers are back to form with our Minnesota win: slow start, culminating in a 4th quarter win. Just like every other game this year.
Here’s what I’m going to do: call 62-3 Ohio State an outlier and “take it out” of our season. To show I’m fair and did learn from my statistics classes, I’m fine also removing our 35-point win over Wyoming as the other outlier.
So, we’re 7-1 right now. ![]()
The committee’s job is to pick the four best teams. Conference championships play a role in that, but they aren’t a requirement.
This is what the committee is supposed to do, according to the CFP Media Guide:
***The criteria to be provided to the selection committee must be aligned with the ideals of the commissioners, presidents, athletic directors and coaches to honor regular season success while at the same time providing enough flexibility and discretion to select a non-champion or independent under circumstances where that particular non-champion or independent is unequivocally one of the four best teams in the country.
When circumstances at the margins indicate that teams are comparable, then the following criteria must be considered:
• Championships won
• Strength of schedule
• Head-to-head competition (if it occurred)
• Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory)
Is anyone complaining about the B1G bias in the BCS?
B1G has 4 teams in the top 8 of the BCS standings (tOSU, Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn St).
Michigan loses and they don’t drop in the BCS standing
Only one SEC team in the top 13, and you have to go 19 deep to get 4 SEC teams. (Meanwhile Six B1G teams in the Top 18.)
No, because the B1G is demonstrably the best conference, top to bottom. They play the toughest schedule, week in, week out. Why, if Alabama had to play Ohio State’s schedule they’d be lucky to come in 4th.

I’m just happy that Trump University isn’t in the top ten.
Louisville just blew its chance, down 31-0 at halftime and losing 36-10 to Houston.
It’s Big Game Week! Go Bears! Beat Stanfurd! Give 'em the Axe!
Notre Dame loses *AGAIN! *
I stand corrected. It still counts as a Perfect Day!
A chance for a record 4th in a season later tonight! ![]()
Ya know, as much as I hate to admit it, I really don’t understand how anybody but McCaffrey is being talked about for the Heisman. Sure, there are some hot-shot QB’s out there, but McCaffrey does everything better than just about anybody out there.
Kick return, punt return, full-back, slot, WR, hell- I think he even throws a pass now and then. I just watched him score 3 TD’s (two of them HUGE breakaways), receive a punt and take a big hit, and still advanced nearly 10 yards.
Sure, Stanford has taken a few loses, but I really believe McCaffrey is the best player in college football. And that is who should get the trophy. Not the QB of the team with the best record.
I gotta go brush my teeth now…
Nope. He was injured and ineffective for 3 weeks, ergo he’s out of the running. Gone. Forgotten.
That was sarcasm. You’re absolutely right – when healthy, he’s the most electrifying and unstoppable player in the game today. He got hosed last year, and it’s a pity he won’t get more consideration this year.
I’m thoroughly sick of watching him and can’t wait until he takes his act to the NFL.
