2016 Omnibus College Football Thread

They need four wins against Army, Navy, Miami, Virginia Tech, and USC, and only Army did not earn votes in both polls last week. They’re somewhere around 37th in FBS APR, if it comes down to having a 5-7 record and there are more bowls than bowl-eligible teams.

Anybody watching the basketball game between Oklahoma and Texas Tech? Both teams are over 750 yds offense. I guess they forgot to teach these guys D.

So, I’m sittin’ here watching Nevada (should have gone to the game, real nice night) vs. Wyoming, and ESPN2 is running campaign ads for New Hampshire.

I wonder how many voters those are reaching?

My Huskers are 7-0 and ranked #6. I am the first to admit haven’t really beaten anybody. But, hey, we thought Oregon was a good scheduling choice in 2013! I have enjoyed the ride, especially as we were losing those games to Illinois, Northwestern, and Purdue last year.

Now we find out how far Riley has brought the Huskers:

[li]Saturday AT Wisconsin[/li][li]Next Saturday AT Ohio State[/li][/ol]

Do I expect my Huskers to win both to show we’re “for real”? No. That said, I’d challenge Alabama to go 2-0 in those consecutive road games.

On the bright side, our 5-7 team last year was a 4-seconds-left FG from beating Wisconsin, and I’d like to think we’ve improved.

We’re still a year or two away from Big Ten title level. I’ll settle for close “moral victory” losses to show we’re on track. None of these 59-24 games were the RB has 400 yards in the 3rd quarter.

And great sense of harmony radiates throughout the universe as the balance of all that is right and good is restored.

Go Blue!!

That is a lot of offense for a basketball game.

:p:D

Jeez! The one time I decide to stay home instead of going to the the South Carolina game is the one game they actually play well enough to win!

Maybe YOU’RE the bad luck charm…

Good heavens, am I dreaming? Washington State is in the top 25, after an 0-2 start?

Notre Dame loses to NAVY!

Better than Viagra. Too bad it can’t be a Perfect Day. UCLA lost earlier this week. :stuck_out_tongue:

So the first playoff rankings came out this week, and surprisingly Texas A&M got in at number 4, ahead of a team pretty much everyone else had in their top 4 (Washington).

The Aggies immediately let it go to their head and dropped a 35-28 decision to Mississippi State.

Why do I expect the committee to say, well, that just shows how strong the SEC is! We’ll leave A&M at 4 and put Mississippi State in at 3! Yeehaw, SECSECSEC!

(Kidding, sort of. Of course the Aggies will fall. But the overall narrative that losses within the SEC shows its such a strong league, while losses among other conferences shows how weak they are, is just grating.)

Before the season started, anyone who had Kentucky in a position to lead the SEC East this late in the season and had my Gamecocks on the verge of bowl eligible was smoking crack, but here we are!

And this week, the Cougs scored more points (69) than any other ranked team! Even better, their opponent scored less (which is often not the case when the Cougs have a big offensive day).

PS - Hubzilla, I feel your pain. 59-24 doesn’t look so bad now, does it?

I’d say our playoff chances have taken a bit of a hit.

Cal, Nebraska, Baylor, Maryland…we could form a support group for teams that got 60 hung on 'em.

Hey, don’t forget Arizona, who was doomed as doomed can be from the second they put the mighty Cougs on their schedule.

ETA: Indulge me; this only happens about once every 15 years or so.

Clemson loses, maybe the Electoral College will get a spot in the BCS top 4 now.

Watching USC vs Washington on FOX. The drive that lead to the Washington’s 2nd Field Goal.

Washington QB (Browning) has clapped his hand just before every snap in the shotgun formation. USC defensive line should be able to exploit this.

Michigan and Washington also losing right now. Could end up being a rough day for the unbeatens.

Go Iowa!

Go USC!

Go Pitt!

Shame on you! I was at Doak tonight for a concert and the crowd cheered when the Clemson/Pitt result was announced.

As painful as it is to say, the result was a net loss for FSU. One, it hurts our SOS for bowl picks coming up. Second, we NEED the ACC to be respected and a regular in the BCS playoff. Right now, there’s already a perception sold regularly by ESPN that a one-loss SEC champ is as deserving (or maybe more so) than a no-loss ACC champ. The only way to fix that is to get in the playoffs on an annual basis and beat the SEC at least as often (if not more so) than we lose to them. We should be ACC fans as part of our Nole fandom.
