Tenn at TAMU was almost a 5 hour long game. 2 OT (took 20 minutes).
NFL Games are almost always done in 3 hr 30 min.
Is it longer Commercial Breaks and clock stoppages for first downs.
How long are the Halftimes of a college game vs NFL game

Halftime is 20 min. That game had a bunch of turnovers (6 by UT alone) and a bunch of injuries. That leads to lots of commercial breaks.
Miami fans sure are classy, aren’t they?
Jake Browning of Washington is a local Sacramento boy who was one of the best high school quarterbacks in the country, and he hasn’t broken his stride moving on to college.
Florida State! Florida State! Florida State! WOOOOOO!
Seven in a row! How does THAT feel, Hurricanes?
Go Seminoles!
Go Navy! (Beat Army! is assumed.)
Navy shocks No. 5 Houston to damage Cougars’ bid for College Football Playoff
At first I thought they postponed to game because of the possibility of needing the hotel rooms for evacuees. After reading a bit this morning, I have come to the conclusion that Florida will refuse to play at any venue other than Gainesville and at any time before the SEC Championship game in Atlanta. The reason is they can. With a record of 6-1 in the SEC, Florida will be in Atlanta, but with a record of 6-2, assuming the same record of 6-2 for Tennessee, Tennessee will be there instead (since Tennessee beat Florida two weeks ago). That’s right, by cancelling the game, Florida can rise higher in the SEC standings.
Admittedly, I’m a Tennessee fan. However, the way the SEC bylaws are written, they encourage a team to do everything in their power to cancel a game under such circumstances. A simple change in the rules, to make a cancelled game (regardless of cause) count as a loss for both teams would provide a pretty good incentive for both teams to play the game if at all possible. Of course, this could not be enacted this year, but it would make sense for them to consider it in the future. Tennessee’s best hope this year is for Arkansas to beat Florida in Fayetteville next month. Alternatively, they could take the matter in their own hands and just beat Alabama next Saturday and win-out the rest of the season. The latter would be my preference.
The SEC commissioner wants to play the game. They are going to have to pay S. Alabama and Presbyterian not to play and play the game on Nov. 19.
I get such a perverse sense of satisfaction watching Notre Dame losing. Watching them do it in hurricane rain and wind is just icing on the cake!
I wonder how many points the Trojans could have put up if they held on to the ball? Sheesh! Damn lucky to escape with a win.
I know that’s the position of the SEC commissioner’s office, but I really doubt that they will get all involved to agree, particularly if Florida still has only one loss come late November. Scott Stricklin just started his job as AD at Florida a couple of weeks ago (doubling his salary to $1million + bonuses) and I suspect he will do everything he can think of to keep from agreeing to anything that could directly result in Florida from missing out on an SEC East title.
The latest on LSU vs. Florida.
LSU wants to play on Dec. 3 but that’s the same day as the SEC Championship game which can’t be moved.
The Oregon Ducks Report:
The season starts Nov. 7 against Northwest Christian College. Excitement is high after last year’s league championship and run to the Elite Eight.
What’s that?
Oh.
The Oregon Ducks Football Report:
Marcus Mariota threw for three touchdowns and ran for another yesterday to lead his team to an upset road win in Miami. Go Ducks!
My Nebraska Cornhuskers are #9 and #10 in the polls!
Do I think we’re one of the 10 best teams in the country? Sure, why not? I think the top five are a cut above (Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Washington, Clemson), but we can belong in that next group. We are 5-0 and none of our wins are flukes, we have a solid scheme in place on both sides. We’re a far cry from last year and most of Pelini’s teams.
And here I thought NU was a year or two away from Riley hitting his stride. 5-0 with 2 winnable games coming up. We could be 7-0 when we go to Wisconsin.
Does that mean I’m confident we’ll go 2-0 through Wisconsin and Ohio State and move higher? No. But I won’t use that as the bellwether: I will say few teams would do well on straight road trips through Wisconsin and Ohio State.
I haven’t watched them play so no idea if good, but the win over Oregon is looking a lot less impressive.
Yes, no argument there. No one was more disappointed than me to see them lose to Colorado (ex-Big 8 bias talking). My rationalization: Nebraska beat them up so bad that they never recovered. Hence the Ducks’ record since the NU game. ![]()
I’ll still take our #10 ranking, because why not? I think after the Top 5 or so, it’s usually a toss-up amongst the pollsters. I mean, can you really tell if #9 is better than #13?
Holy shit, GameDay isn’t showcasing Tennessee this week? I thought it was going to be renamed VolunteerDay. And a Big Ten matchup? ESPN passes up on a chance to suck up to the SEC?
Go Seminoles!
(and (ETA: premature) thanks to North Carolina for winning today!)
GJ Tar Heels!
I hate to see a game decided on a kicker failure (e.g., Clemson - NC State), I just feel bad for the kid.
Notre Damn loses a game it really should have won, AT HOME!
Five loses! Makes me wonder how they are going to weasel into a bowl…
How is Florida State ranked? Weren’t they dismantled and excoriated a couple weeks ago? I mean bad! Two fails and still in the top 15?
Nice weather in the Palouse. Same here at my house, but the wind ripped off another 10% of my roof before the rain came. Guess I should have got that new roof last month.
