I was wondering if you are familiar with the work of the Gun Violence Archive (http://www.gunviolencearchive.org/reports/mass-shooting for their 2017 list)? They list all mass shootings, defined by them as “FOUR or more shot and/or killed in a single event [incident], at the same general time and location, not including the shooter.” To be included on their list does not require that anyone died in the incident, only that they were shot and at least injured. Also, their list is specifically about guns, it does not include vehicular or other forms of homicide.

So on their list the Texas incident is #307.

I’m not saying that one methodology is better than the other, only that it does give a somewhat different perspective.

And sorry if this has been brought up before, I didn’t take the time to read the entire thread.

Can someone set me straight? The shooter killed himself (for a total of six), or did the police kill him (for a total of five)? Frankly I am simply too upset or perhaps weary to look. What the heck is wrong with people?

The shooter killed 5. The police killed the shooter. 6 people are dead.

ETA: the addition comes because police discovered the body of his wife some time after the shooter’s death; previously they only knew of the four he killed during the public part of the rampage.
