2024/2025 Snow Thread

We did get about 6 inches in my neighborhood. More than what used to be normal around here. Without any ice, it was uneventful with no power outages. I took a lot of photos and just enjoyed watching it come down all day. It should be gone by early next week and I don’t need to go anywhere until then.

A little icy today. We’ve lost a few tree limbs but nothing big.

We had a couple of inches this week. Now it’s sunny and everything is melting.

Y’all remember that horrible crash on a Ft. Worth bridge a couple of years ago? It was in the toll lanes of the bridge, and the private company that runs the toll road was considered partly responsible for not preparing the bridge enough.

This week, when the snow was going good, I pulled up google maps to see what was going on with the roads. At first I thought the traddic was really bad, but I looked closer. Every tollway on the north half of DFW had been closed.

Since the last snow was fading away and the street was halfway cleared, time for another snow.

Only two inches this time. Easy to clear. But the town plowed the street leaving a modest pile in front of the drive. OTOH, when we got 6 inches they didn’t plow the side streets. What the what?

It was quite cold and I wore mittens. Once I got out of the shelter of the house the wind really started to add to the cold. My thumbs started to get quite chilly. But I was almost done by then.

After I shoveled got a light dusting. Clear today so the Sun should take care of that despite the cold.

It was 1 degree when we went to bed last night. -2 this morning

It started snowing in Logan county WV early this morning. Most of the snow from the last storm had melted off and now everything is white and gray again.

2 inches on the ground so far. It was 30 a few hours ago but the temps have started dropping. We are retired and don’t have anywhere we have to be until Friday. Day drinking will happen.

No snow here in Oahu. Bit chilly at 65 this morning though. Supposed to warm up

I finally got out of my driveway Thursday. One day shy of two weeks after the storm.

Another 3 or so inches of snow today. We get 9 inches in a normal winter and there’s been around 16 inches so far, with the season a little more than halfway through.

The snow is insulating the soil, so along with the mulch I laid down earlier, that should help the crinums and crepe myrtles get through this cold snap.

On a positive note. Alabama arena that was destined for demolition collapses from snow. “Mother Nature helped expedite that process.”

The winter that wasn’t is still continuing in MSP. Cold weather, sure, but snow has been nearly non-existent. We’re expecting another flurry in the next couple of days, but that’s it.

Another 8 inches yesterday, which is unfortunate because @Tride has been out of town and I can’t get the tractor started. The wind drifts from earlier in the week have meant that I’m grateful we still have a truck. The EV is going nowhere until we get the driveway clear. Fortunately, I only have to drive out one more time to pick him up at the airport, and he can jolly well drive us home through the stuff. I hope we don’t get stuck and that he can get the tractor running. Clear and quite cold today.

The snow that fell during the big storm from a couple of weeks ago is still lingering around here because it just hasn’t gotten warm enough to make much of a dent. But my little weather app is showing a bunch of days with highs in the 50s coming up, so I’m hopeful about seeing some progress. Heck, it’s supposed to reach nearly 60 early next week.

Things are finally getting better here. E.g., yesterday our street was finally mostly clear of snow instead of that skating rink look it had for some time. Snow is mostly gone in the sunny areas except for the piles. Highs in the 40s for a bit.

Snow predicted late in the week. It was fun while it lasted.

Thaw V, The Unsnowing.

The predictions for last Fri were all over the place. First under an inch of snow, then rain/snow mix, then an inch. Got up in the morning to see a light dusting. Great. No problem. Then it started to snow. And snow. It was borderline freezing so it packed down with semi-hard slush at the base. Finally they issued a winter weather advisory. You think?

So I shoveled. Then it got really cold. The street was an ice rink again.

Now it is warming up nicely. Got into the 60s yesterday but the wind made working outside difficult. It was actually hard to stand up. In the 40s this AM and the snow is disappearing rapidly. Just a few tiny blots of remnant showpile in the front. A bit of a drift from several snows in the back. All should go away really soon.

The neighbors on the shadowy side of the street still have huge snowpiles that have been there a long time. It’s going to take a while for those to go away.

No snow in the forecast. Like that means anything.

-5F with 6" new and snow forecasted through Thursday. Time to plow!

I was hoping we’d get through the season without any snow.

But there is snow. Not a whole lot, but enough for Wifey, RN to cancel her patient visits. It’s also colder up here than it is down in Seattle. We’re just a bit south of the Fraser River Delta, and it’s cooling things down. It’s about 20ºF right now.

More freezing rain! YAY

We had an interesting little storm yesterday. Moved in almost literally in the blink of an eye. I went to pee and the sun was peeking out. 2 minutes later it was a whiteout. 10" in 5 hours. I90 was closed. It finally has gotten above zero–yesterday the tractor barely started.

We got a dusting overnight. Temperature is 26ºF. I’ve swept/shovelled the bit of the walk I did yesterday, and scattered some de-icer. Looks like no more snow for a week, and then rain/snow for a couple of days, then showers as temperatures increase.

A school was closed today because of ice.
The parking lot looks wet to me.
Its 37.
