Could also be a matter of one side getting more sun.
It took until after noon for the sun to come out here (closer to the lake), but everything that was on the sidewalks melted away this afternoon, and a lot of the snow on the grass is now gone, as well.
The maple trees in our yard had just started to shed leaves before last night; between the wind and the snow, they’re now at least half bare.
Snow flurries here in Orange County, NY (yeah, I know it would be more noteworthy in FL or CA). Can’t remember it ever snowing on my birthday before!
Not really sticking, but pretty outside.
Today Cleveland had a light dusting on the ground in the morning, and some extremely photogenic snow-globe moments, with big fat flakes, during the day. No accumulation by afternoon, though.
Good point. The front of the house faces south, more or less.
The weather is warming and all snow is gone from paved surfaces, but still a little on lawns. The weather will still be shitty for at least a few more days but the shit will be in the form of rain, which should get rid of the last of the snow.
But as I said in another thread, the ENSO cycle is in a La Nina phase, which means the equatorial Pacific sea surface temperatures are below normal. They’re expected to start slowly warming again sometime between late January and March, so it may be a snowy winter (the El Nino / La Nina cycles have quite significant effects on weather in North America).
We had our first snow of the '25-'26 season last night around 2 a.m., a modest dusting that was gone by this afternoon.
Most snowplow contracts (for private residences) in Montreal only come into effect on November 15. Surprise! Streets and sidewalks are getting plowed and salted as normal for any snowstorm. 20 cm or 8 inches fell.
Weekend winter storm to blanket Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit in inches of snow
A high-impact storm that will stretch from the Rockies to the Great Lakes this weekend, bringing heavy snow, a wintry mix and severe weather to more than a dozen states — and major travel disruptions.
So no one else here is getting any snow? By the time it ends it looks like I will get a foot of snow.

It started snowing here (western suburbs of Chicago) sometime in the pre-dawn hours; there’s maybe an inch or so on the ground right now. It started coming down harder within the past 30 minutes or so, and we’re predicted to get 8"-ish by the end of the night tonight.
Earlier in the week, the more aggressive forecast models (and the more breathless forecasters) were talking about the possibility of a foot or more here, but it looks like those higher totals are going to stay west and north of us.
Hope everyone who gets the big hits of snow has the luxury of just enjoying it, and doesn’t have to clean it up or drive in it.
Here, north of Denver, we got our very first snow of the season (early morning, November 29). When I got up around 8 there was a very light dusting of snow on the ground. It’s 10:30 now, and it’s already gone.

Thankfully, I have no place I have to go today; we had stayed home for Thanksgiving. I’ll have to snowblow it all, as I do have an event to go to, tomorrow afternoon, but by then, the roads should be clear.
We’re once again catching the edge of a storm. It’s been snowing since I got up and is supposed to come down fairly heavily this afternoon. Possible accumulation of 4" or so of fluffy, easy to plow stuff. South of MN is catching a pile.
I’m guessing we end up getting diddly in the DC area in the coming week. Son in Ithaca should see some, daughter in Chicago will see plenty. I’d be surprised if we actually saw any on the ground. It’ll be cold enough, but it doesn’t look like there’s too much precipitation headed our way.
Here in SE Minnesota the first snow was Wednesday , about 1/2 inch.
We are supposed to get up to 9 inches today/ tomorrow, of which we have received about an inch.

Woke up this morning to 4.5" in my yard. . . which is 4.4" more than needed to send St. Louis drivers into a panic.
Here in the so-called Great White North there has been no white to speak of, other than a dusting earlier in the month, and then rain. The major effect of approaching winter so far has been a transfer of lots of $$$ from my bank account to Snowplow Guy. It’s insurance. There may be hardly any snow this winter, or I may get snowed in and end up in a life-threatening situation where I run out of vodka and Caesar mix. One must not take chances!
Woke up this morning to the sound of snow guys blowing and scraping snow off the driveway and sidewalk. Snuggled back into my nice warm dressing gown.
My insurance is paying off!
(I did have to sweep the back sidewalk to the wheelie bins, but that didn’t take long.)
1 degree F here this morning and 6” of fluff from yesterday. Bridger go a sorely needed 13” on top, although 7% snow doesn’t do much for the base…
Cleveland started getting significant snow Thanksgiving afternoon. Wasn’t too bad coming back from Mom’s, largely because there wasn’t any traffic yet, but Friday morning was a total mess.
There’s still a nice blanketing on the ground, but I think they’ve had a chance to clean off the roads, now.
The snow west of Chicago wasn’t too bad. Blew it twice, and now only an inch or so to blow tomorrow. Mostly freezing temps over the next 10 days suggests it is gonna stick around. Looks like golf is done for a while…
Our suburb only picks up leaves 2x - 1st week of Nov and 1st week of Dec. So with the snow expected and the final leaf pick-up next week, I cleaned up the leaves yesterday. Blew/raked and bagged, then ran the mower to mulch whatever was left. Fucking Chicago - use my mower one day, and my freaking snow blower the next! ![]()
