The longer census had some odd questions. Utility bills? Mortgage payments? Municipal taxes?
I got the short form. Quick and easy!
I’m not going to get one, not living in Canada at present. I’m curious, though - I’ve heard from a few Humanist friends who are encouraging people to check the ‘No Religion’ box in the section dealing with religious affiliations. Is this a change from previous years? (Did any of you notice?)
My short form didn’t even ask about religion. Just number of people, gender (identity and assigned at birth) and languages spoken.
Same here, did my own and for a friend who’s not computer literate, short form in both cases.
The radio reports that Mark Mulroney (2nd youngest son of former PM Brian) may be in the running for the Conservative leadership. He is currently global vice-chair of CIBC.
Huh! I’d only ever heard of the Ben Mulroney and Caroline Mulroney.
On the census - there have been lots of photos on social media of right-wing trolls writing ‘Return to Sender’ on their census forms, because of grievances or something.
And if anyone wants to help out puzzlegal with some Montréal recommendations, have a look at this thread - Visiting Montreal early July
Apparently, that line was improvised, completely taking Cleavon Little by surprise…
Thanks for the heads-up. With electronic invoicing on almost everything, and package delivery mostly by courier, I don’t check my community mailbox very often and would likely have missed the deadline!
Does anyone seriously think that the son of Brian Mulroney, possibly the most hated PM in living memory, is a terrific choice for the Conservative leadership? Especially in light of the legacy of nepotism that Justin left behind, even though Pierre arguably was a pretty decent PM.
Good, I’d like to see them removed from the voting rolls and from all social benefits that they’re likely receiving, since they apparently don’t exist. Or else heavily fined, since census completion is legally mandatory, and though one might be able to plead mistakes or ignorance, willful avoidance is inexcusable.
Thanks again to @Spoons and others.
I was gratified that the mailing I got seemed very small, so I assumed the short form, but it turned it out wasn’t a form at all, but just a login ID to the online census site. I just used it a few minutes ago, and mercifully it was just the short form, and took almost no time at all to complete!
It didn’t actually specify what species of form this was, but since it asked only a very few basic questions, I assume I lucked out with the short form. Honestly, I would not have had much patience with lengthy convoluted questions about my finances!
I got the short form too, my 88 year old mother received the long form.

According to StatsCan, 25% of Canadian households randomly get the long form.
I’ve been to Canada a number of times; probably more than most all non-Canadians on this board. The first time was with my parents when we drove down the AlCan Highway in 1959 to visit relatives in Montana and Oregon. The road was unpaved between Dawson and the Alaskan border then. Since then, I’ve driven that highway twice, the most recent in 2009. We drove the Top of the World Highway from Alaska to Dawson City and the Dempster Highway to Inuvik. We visited Vancouver Island. And we took a French language immersion trip to Quebec City. It’s a huge and diverse country.
I did my census (short) form last week. Sadly, I’ve forgotten enough spoken French over the years that I had to admit I couldn’t hold a conversation in it. Oh well.

Same for me. As a kid I was pretty fluently bilingual (actually, passably trilingual) but I had to admit that today English is the only language I could reasonably converse in.
