Not exactly a well-known celebrity, but former MLB catcher Ellie Rodríguez passed away on April 23 at the age of 79. He played for six big-league clubs over a 9-year career. In 1969, he was picked up the in the expansion draft by the Kansas City Royals, and that season he became the club’s first All-Star representative.

The cartoonist Nicole Hollander died last week, according to her friend Sara Paretsky, the detective novelist. Hollander wrote and drew the wonderful Sylvia comic strip.
I can’t find any other mention of this on the Web yet, but I have no reason to distrust Paretsky, whose work I’ve been familiar with almost as long as Hollander’s.
