24: Season 4: Episode 19 (1:00am - 2:00am)

Has anyone else noticed that the ‘24’ thread has slowly morphed from being an intense discussion about the show, into an amusing parody thread.

That pretty much sums up what’s happened to 24 this year. When my wife and I were watching the last episode, I actually started thinking, “I wonder what else is on?”, and at almost the same time my wife looked at me and said, “This is getting pretty dull, isn’t it?” And both of us were 24 addicts at least for the first two seasons.

Nah. Jack only shouts the SECOND time he instructs someone…

Well, in previous seasons, there was always something to try to guess and figure out… who’s the mole? who’s the double-secret-mole? who’s the bad guy who’s calling the shots, giving orders to the lesser bad guy we’ve seen so far?

Now, we pretty much know who the bad guy is, and we’re watching them play the game of surround-him-then-let-him-get-away over and over.

Also, the episodes used to end more cliffhanger style. Now each episode seems to wrap up the action at the end – they’re not really leaving us hanging. For example… Season 2, episode 8 – that was the one right before Christmas break, where we had to wait 3 weeks for a new one, and how did they end it? Jack on the plane, telling Nina quietly the severity of what she destroyed when she killed his wife… then suddenly the plane gets hit by the incoming missile, and after a few seconds of chaos, the clock at the end… chik THUNG chik THUNG chik THUNG

I literally leapt out of my seat on that one.

They haven’t been making them like that this season.

While I thought that the last several episodes before this one were kind of weak, I actually loved this episode. I really like having people make mistakes under pressure and be human… why SHOULDN’T some random politico who has suddenly become president in the middle of a crisis act like a weak moron? And it’s nice that he’s not evil, he just is in way over his head, and eventually realized it. And hey, that terrorist has a girlfriend, and made a mistake, and it may actually matter. Not all plans are flawless.

And, of course, the return of David Palmer is awesome. And Chloe with a gun is a top 10 24 moment, easily.
24 is one of those shows that’s ridiculously easy to parody and poke fun at, but can still be entertaining in its own earnest asskickiness.

True
Although also a bit scary, given her easily irritated manner.

Mmm… Chloe with a gun…

Wouldn’t want to meet her with an M4 on a PMS day…

Re: Novick and ensign Ro

Well, the only excuse I got is thast she died, adn therefore couldn’t tell anyone that Novick lokced her in a closet and was instigating the removal of President Palmer. Which brings me to:

WHAT IS MIKE NOVIcK’S JOB?! Seriously. What job puts you that close to two presidents? He’s obviously not a run of the mill advisor, so what? Almost certainly not an appointed position, since I fidn it hard to believe two presidents would appoint the same guy.

Particularly when both presidents are (presumably) from opposite parties…

“Hi, I’m Mike Novick, and I’ll be your Dirty Tricks speciailst. I come free with the presidency.”

-Joe

Amen.

Well, by the end of season 2, Palmer knew that Novick was in on the invoking of the amendment business, and fired him. But no – not the locking her in the room upstairs business.

Well, I think under Palmer, he was the Chief of Staff. Although I wouldn’t think that the next president, from the opposite party as Palmer, would likely appoint the same folks Palmer had!

A friend of mine loves the show, but he went out of town for two weeks and asked me to tape them for him until them(he’s going to a horrid place where TV reception is very limited and entire towns share the same genetic code, if you get my meaning).

Being the idiot that I am, I spaced after remembered after it had finished.

Could somebody send me a tape of this week’s episode? I’ll pay shipping charges. I just need before May 9.

I didn’t catch it the first time around, but watched through this one again and realized…

When Chloe was talking to the informant girlfriend of the terrorist on the phone about the computer file she found – the girlfriend said, “Most of the files were encrypted, but I found one in the Recycle Bin”.

Man, Marwan is going to be pissed when he realizes that his terror dudes are forgetting to click “Empty Recycle Bin”. They might even switch to Unix after this.

Speaking of which, why the heck would a computer tech like Chloe be handling incoming tips on terrorist activity? Wouldn’t CTU have people who are specifically trained for such things?

I sure as heck wouldn’t want someone like Chloe handling that task.

A flimsy reason would be that this woman’s call involved stuff she’d found encrypted on a PC, so she needed to talk to a tech person of some sort.

Flimsy indeed.

Did anybody notice this from the promo for tomorrow’s episode:There are men in uniform who appear to represent a foreign army. Could it be that Marwan takes refuge in a foreign embassy and Jack and his little friends (or maybe Jack alone) attacks the embassy to get at Marwan? And could that be what ex-Pres. Palmer is saying that anyone in government should deny knowing anything about?
