24: Season 7: Episodes 1-2 (8:00am - 10:00am) Season Premiere

You know, I could’ve sworn I saw one of those red, double-decker tourist buses that are all over the place in New York City in the background of one shot!

You know, thinking about this some more, I’ll bet Tony is working for the not quite disbanded CTU!

I like that.

Couldn’t hang around and watch the whole thing, unfortunately (?). I’ll catch up if I can and might even watch tonight if I’m bored, but I absolutely hated Tony being brought back as a terrorist. Hated it, hated it, just plain stupid. That overwhelmed the rest of what I saw in the first 45 minutes or so.

I thought the debate between FBI chick and Jack about Tony being bad was pretty good as far as convincing me that Tony could really be a bad guy. I would hate it if they had Tony turn out to really be a good guy at this point.

That lasted one day and was confined to one area of the country. There media quickly displed any notion of it being caused by terrorism. A nationwide blackout, after a mass grounding of planes, would cause much more problems. Especially in the 24 universe with it’s annual 9/11s.

On the other hand, a nuclear detonation in the LA suburbs seems to have left the country remarkably unshaken. :stuck_out_tongue:

While the Air Traffic Control thing is bringing flashes of Die Hard 2, the rest of the technology infrastructure attack-threat is more Die Hard 4.

Anybody got a hacksaw?

Tony’s been spending all his time stealing high-tech devices. He hasn’t had time to shoplift a few compact fluorescents from Wal-Mart. It’s on the To-Do list.

Yup, that’s him! Thanks for the find.

Here’s the thing about Tony being alive… how was his death faked in the first place? What scenario involves his death being faked, and then he just becomes a freelance terrorist for hire?

Much more plausible (as far as anything can be described as “plausible”) is something like the CTU-still-exists-super-secret-US-agency which would have been waiting around for cases like Tony, where an agent came close to dying; and they could leap in, fake his death, and recruit him. Or something.

Did Tony die before or after Michelle? Or were they already divorced or something?

I know they’re doing their best to try to keep with a recent theme, but why on earth is Jack in any kind of trouble? Doesn’t the man have a service record for godsake?

Senator Red Foreman: “You tortured people, you’re going to prison you dumbass!”

Jack Bauer: Um, please see the addendum to the back of the file titled “Really, Truly, Horrible Shit that Did Not Happen Because of Me and Only Me.”

Senator Red Foreman: “Oh…I see, right, yes, I remember that…And, oh that was you? Then…Ok. Never mind, you’re free to go.”

You’d think there would be a pardon or two in his file by now.

Also, Jack Rawrrr is so perfect.

And Dr. Phlox is what, chopped liver?

Max: The same Producers made Nikita, about a secret anti terrorist agency whose member’s deaths were faked.

My Bullshit Meter hit “Plaid” the moment they first explained that this one “firewall” was being used to protect every single infrastructure system in the country, and that anyone who manages to bypass it is basically home free. Some gibberish about “scanning sockets,” I’m pretty sure, was just thrown in to taunt me.

But I’ll keep watching, as always, just to watch Jack kick some ass and say “dammit!” a lot.

(Also, it is at least refreshingly plausible to see the bad guys using their ill-gotten access to the system to nearly crash two aircraft by devious miscommunication. In the style of prior seasons of 24, I would have almost expected them to simply “hack” some “protocols” into the airplane’s “sockets” (possibly involving a perimeter) to gain direct remote control of the craft. I think that counts for something. :dubious:)

Definitely. Die Hard 2 was the part about not being able to contact the plane because the bad guys blocked them. Although I liked how they were trying to call passengers, at least they made some attempt. Imagine being on a flight and you forgot to turn off your phone and it rings, then some guy claims to be from ATC. I probably wouldn’t answer it to begin with because I’d be afraid of getting in trouble and detained by the FBI.

It was after. Maybe they were divorced and got back together. Anyway, she and Tony were definitely together when she died. He was there when the car exploded and he was hurt by it. Then RoboCop killed him later that day at CTU.

That’s my problem with this plotline. Wayne Palmer owed Jack a few solids – unless he died of his injuries before leaving office, he should have pardoned Jack. After all, he did prevent 5 or 6 apocalypses.

Watched the premiere last night and most of my snark has already been taken. But what’s with that cunning abduction plan? You’ve got an unarmed, unguarded guy with his daughter. Do you hang out just outside his house and say “Sir, you’re coming with me or the brat gets it?” Or do you ram his car twice, hard enough to put his car on top of another, ensuring that your valuable genius has a concussion, whiplash, and possible multiple severe injuries? As part of your clever plan, you drive away in the (standard issue) black vans that you used to do the ramming, even though they could and should have been undriveable.

By the clock, it was only seven minutes later that genius guy was putting the final soldering touches on the device. Sorry, but they’ve already shattered the real time conceit at this point.

I don’t see why a trained FBI agent would think it was a good idea for just two agents to try to explore a boat that potentially full of heavily armed domestic terrorists who had plenty of chances to set up booby traps, alarm systems, and kill zones. Terrorists lose points for the the “camera 2 is out, go see what’s wrong”. I’m pretty sure I was that in Live Free or Die Hard, the movie that this episode of 24 seems to be cribbing from.

Yeah. And neither Jack Bauer nor Jack Rowrr did a good job of keeping themselves covered as they crept up on the boat.

Cover is for those who cannot supply overwhelming firebauer. I mean firepower.

Finally watched it and I am pleased so far.

Again I will have to believe that for some reason that all the “critical systems” - water, power, air traffic, etc - are all controlled by a single system, much like the stupid power plant thing. But I will take it as the MacGuffin and move on.

Yes, FBI agent is hot, but so is grieving fiancee, who if I recall from Redemption was prominently displayed in her underwear.

My guess about the FBI mole:
