I have collected what I feel is a world-record holding list of 3,049 English synonyms for the concept of intoxication - Yup words that mean “drunk”… I’d like to start adding foreign words and phrases - with pronunciation - (A.K.A. synonyms) for “drunk”, or the state of being drunk… any suggestions?
This was in a comic I browsed through a few years ago (I think “For Better or Worse”, or whatever it is). Two (or maybe three) teenage guys sitting around trying to come up with words for drunk. The little sister of one wanders through, and they solicit her contribution. Her conversation-stopper? “How about stupid?”
Still never stopped me, though.
(Probably only British and regional, but I don’t know which region, because the people from whom I heard this were from different places.) I liked it though. And has “pissed as a newt” been done already?
When I was in university, I wrote a paper on the Aztec, and while researching it I ran across a reference to measuring drunkeness in terms of numbers of rabbits. I think it maxed out at 200 rabbits, meaning (presumably) that if you were 200 rabbits, you were crawling, slobbering drunk.
I have no idea why they’d use rabbits, but there you have it.
