6 January 2021; A Day worth a Thread

It’s unacceptable that the Capitol Building was left so unguarded as to require use of heavy furniture to bar the door. This is nuts.

I wasn’t super worried about something like this happening (a little worried) because I thought they’d have adequate security. WTF? Especially egregious since so many Repubs were planning to make the proceedings take much longer than usual, making both chambers an even easier target for trump’s wingnuts to attack.

Well, they only had, what, a week to prepare? Those barricades take time!

This isn’t going to end well.

They retracted the statement…here is the latest:

NBC keeps calling this a “peaceful protest.” Even if the militia cosplayers weren’t out in force, was it really “peaceful” if they stormed a building?

Oh, Lester Holt just called it a coup attempt.

CBS News livefeed of the Capitol

They aren’t protestors anymore; they are insurgents. Terrorists. Rebels. But they are no longer mere protestors.

Well…good? I guess. Nothing about this feels “good.”

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) tweets: “This is a coup attempt.“

No Federal or Federal-connected security force can be counted on to move in, since they are subordinate to the President; plus IIUIC any other police force would have to be asked for by the actual Congressional leaders to be able to act inside the Capitol complex.

There should have been preemptive coordination of the Leadership and Capitol Police with DC Police to at least secure the perimeter properly.

The current NBC feed from inside the chamber is just sickening.

The DOD was going to leave even the Republican House and Senate members to the crowd?

There are photos of police inside the House aiming guns at the doors as the protestors tried to break in.

And then they did break in – and apparently the police did nothing to stop it.

I was thinking yesterday that today would be the happiest day of Vladimir Putin’s life. We are in absolute chaos, and he’s probably sitting back and enjoying his cigar.

I saw a picture with armed guards pointing their guns toward the door and it kind of looked like some of the glass was shot out. Hoping that was a faked picture?

I guess it was real. Who are these police and why aren’t they doing anything? I assume they’d be the first to push a lone old man down onto the concrete. :rage:

I’m kind of OK with the Capitol Police and their apparent lack of preparation. The Capitol belongs to We the People, and it’s supposed to be open to the public so we can observe our representatives in action (with limits and metal detectors, etc etc). To cordon off the building behind barricades while a momentous decision is going on is a terrible look. I’d rather they react late, rather than over-react early.

“Oh, they’ve got a cave troll.”

[Cave troll enters] “HI CAVE TROLL, HOW YA DOIN’? Sure, here’s that ring you’ve been looking for!”

No, I think Putin is still disappointed that Trump didn’t get reelected. Xi Jinping, perhaps, too. Another four years of Trump could have permanently relegated America to the secondary league.

Well, he’s half-right.

The senate had a chance earlier this year to get this man out with no fuss. They could have convicted him in the senate and gotten him out.

They were told that he “would not go quietly” and here we are.
