I would find it believable that, once Virginia called out the National Guard, Trump tried to save face and make it seem like his idea. He does that a lot. See, recently, him saying he admitted to the contents of the phone call on Monday.

My wife works at an elementary school here in “Trump country”. The TVs were on and the Trump supporters were excited about this. They are fighting for our country. Go team. (my wife couldn’t stand it and left work early)
Where is the response they had when Trump wanted to have a photo op at the church? Helicopters and ass kickings?
Storming the capitol would pretty much seem to fit that description, no?
They also said VA National Guard not too long ago as well.

Trump is watching tv and is resisting any suggestion to do anything about this.
He is mad at pence and has dug into his pouting.
Hopefully there was some sort of expectation of this sort of thing, and MD & VA have some Guard units already mustered and ready to go, or else it might be a little while for everyone to show up and get ready.
