60 fucking degrees in Colorado Springs on Dec 27th!! WTF happened to winter?

This is fucking ridiculous!! I can’t stand it anymore! I have been here for 4 years and not ONE has been a real “Colorado winter” that you would picture. Hardly any fucking snow (barely an inch this year so far) so I can’t take my 3 year old sledding.

I grew up in middle Illinois. I NEED 4 distinct seasons. This bullshit in Colorado fucking sucks. One day its 10 degrees and cloudy, the next day OR SOMETIMES LATER THE SAME DAY it is 50 degrees and sunny?!?!

I remember one day in April or March a year ago or so it was snowing around 10am-ish and at 4pm that same say it was raining and 65-70 degreees!!!

I hate this state. The only reason I stay is because my daughter lives here and I don’t want to be apart from her.

FTR, I think Salt Lake is WAY nicer than Colorado Springs and is much more snowy and wintery than this shit state.

I LIKE THE COLD!! I LIKE SNOW!! I LIKE CAPS!!

WTF happened to winter?

It took up residence in Oklahoma this year. You can have it back now. Really.

christ on a pony, we’ve had more snow that that this year and I live in MD!! TWO storms that put more than a few inches on the ground already. And they really know how to drive down here too, let me tell you. Hell, my folks came down for X-mas from Schenectady NY and they got 2 1/2 feet of the white crap there while they were down here. So where is the snow? Right here on the pathetic east coast.

Hey, it snowed quite a bit here (Pueblo) the day before Christmas, and we’re just about 60 miles south. There’s still snow in my backyard. I know what you mean though, I haven’t seen a huge snow since I moved here. Just enough to frost over my windshield in the morning and make my 10+ miles of dirt road icy. Mother nature isn’t trying to give me a snow day, she’s trying to make my morning commute more difficult. Bitch.

Hey lady, we should hook up, have some sex, ya know? We live 45 mintues apart.

(Always a wanted to say that to someone online. Seems like the right thing to do)

It’s supposed to be almost 50 degrees here tomorrow, in northern Illinois. That’s shirt-sleeve weather!

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

The ski places are going bankrupt after the second gonzo mild winter on record and I’m creeped. Sheesh, I haven’t worn my real cold weather clothes once. In fact I have to keep hauling my mid-weight clothes back outta storage.

Maybe I’m just mistaken in memory. Maybe the arctic cold and piles of snow always showed up in January.

Nah, I remember pretty respectable snows on Halloween.

Weird.

Veb

No shit. I remember a few Halloweens where it was the ice-rain/thick-flake-snow combos. I loved it.

I miss winter. :frowning:

Could global warming be happening here? Is the US gonna be a desert soon?

Sorry Stink, while global warming may well be happening, it’s just typical Colorado weather that’s getting to you. I’ve lived here most of my life and the only people that bet on the weather are the out-of-staters.

A few years back, it snowed on the Fourth of July. I got caught in a blizzard on Long’s Peak in Mid-August and they closed down I-25 between Denver and Fort Collins on Sept. 15 because of snow drifts.

It’s just Colorado.

Montana is much the same way. Last April we had more snow than last November. It simply is not cold here anymore, except for fluke weeks where it doesn’t get above 15 above. 25-30 is my limit for cold weather, when cold turns into bitter cold and I need something fairly substantial between me and the weather. I haven’t needed anything for weather that cold for a good few weeks now, and it’s usually goddamned cold around here for Thanksgiving and especially Christmas. (Halloween depends, but a good snow is considered normal. Didn’t happen this year.) Only now is it even somewhat snowy, and it’s so warm (even after nightfall, no less) that it’s all melting away.

This reminds me of my winters spent in Missouri and Illinois: brown, cool to cold, and mostly snowless. It was a lot wetter in the Midwest, of course, and less windy. That’s about it. It just isn’t right.

The same can be said for Idaho. It was 50 degrees today, hardly winter weather by anyone’s standards. We hardly see snow here anymore. I remember back in the 70’s and 80’s as a kid I could count on seeing some really good, genuine winter weather each season-- snow at least a foot deep, bone-chilling temperatures, etc. We had more white Christmases then, too (didn’t have one this year, either). If anything, it rains here and it only snows in the mountains. It must suck being a kid who lives here now since the kids hardly get to build snowmen and do all that other fun winter stuff I did while growing up. Winter is quite a disappointment to me anymore.

When I lived in North Platte, Nebraska a few years ago, it was 70 degrees on New Year’s Day! It was some kind of weather phenomenon whereby air that gathers up on the Rockies charges down the eastern slope all at once, gaining speed and, therefore, heat.

Its up and down here.
One week cold, (below 32) one week warm (50!)
I would prefer 70 every single day of the year!!!

They say its cause of El Nino.

Really, it’s just a matter of perspective.

I was in Colorado about two weeks ago. We went to Keystone and I was positively giddy about the snow. I live in Houston, and I never see that stuff.

My SO thought I was a cacklin’ maniac for getting so excited about a couple inches of snow and a little bit of chilly weather.

It’s too hot here too. December-February is supposed to be a little break from the oppressive heat and humidity, and yet it’s getting into the lower to mid 80s about every other day. It’s in the 60s here now. What happened to winter indeed…

(There’s about a 75% chance I’ll be out of here by next winter. Seriously.)

Hehe,

As a lifetime (except 5 years) resident of Colorado Springs, I can tell you this is somewhat, but not typical. Remember, we are in a drought and that started in 1999.

I remember December 24 of 1992, I had on my favorite sweater, leggings and such and it was about 70ºF. This is WHY it’s nice to live here. You get a day of -20ºF and the next it’s in the 60s. We get lots of sunshine but really not that much snow.

If you want snow, cruise on up to Summit County (Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco and such) and go play in the snow. My brother was up there today playing hockey outside earlier today.

People have mis-conceptions about the climate in our area. It’s “reported” that we actually get more days of sunshine than Sunny Southern California. But I could be wrong, that’s just what has been said to me since I was child.

Glad to be here to help. Without turning this into a flirting thread in the pit, you might want to check in on my age before you make many indecent proposals  Your profile doesn’t say much about you, so email me sometime. I like to get to know people who live near me. Not like that you sickos.

LOL, Ladyfoxfyre isn’t even of legal age to drink…

Although we still need to get together to have a cup of coffee (or in my case tea).

BTW, Ladyfoxfyre, if you have a Live Journal, let me know, I have my phone number in there somewhere and maybe we can meet for that cup of caffiene sometime soon.

Yeah tech, you need to email me so we can arrange that, I’m just dying to meet ya! Maybe we could arrange a Springs Dope for the few of us in the area. That would tons of fun.

I lived in Colorado front range for 11 years, and never once did they get anything resembling a real winter. Anyone who thinks Colorado has winters is from California or some other such warm state.

(of course, I’m not talking about the mountains. Just the Front Range and such places)

Im a 26 year old hunk of burning love here baby. Maybe if it wasn’t so warm here I wouldn’t be burning!

So whaddya say? We should hookup, have some sex, ya know?
(2 times in one thread. I am truly a ladies man!)
