67th Golden Globe Awards (2010)

Damn–Halle just keeps getting hotter!

Waltz owned Inglourious Basterds–glad he won. Hope he gets the Oscar, too.

At this point, he and Mo’Nique are virtual locks–they have been winning everything. For either to lose at this point would be a phenomenal upset.

Great Scorsese montage and an even better speech–Faulkner, Sembene, and The Red Shoes: the guy is simply amazing. Surprised it took the HFPA this long to give it to him.

Mel Gibson seems to love Inglorious Bastards.

Cameron wins for Avatar! Didn’t expect that. Neither did he. Nice of him to give props to Bigelow.

Glee wins! Woo hoo!

I love Robert Downey Jr. Still haven’t seen Sherlock Holmes except the first 10 minutes when the movie theater screwed up the other day and started playing the wrong movie. But we got free tickets for the ensuing 45 min wait so I guess I will go see it soon for free!

Avatar looks like shit to me. Even visually.

If Avatar wins, I’ll be very upset…

Damn it.

Avatar looks like shit to me and when anyone expresses enthusiasm for it I assume they are stupid.

Why did Avatar win? Cause it cost 300 million dollars? Cause of all the fancy CGI 3D crap? Even people that went to the movie and said they liked it told me they thought the story was pretty lame/boring but “it looked cool.” Since when is that the most important part? Ugh. I don’t know why I care but I guess I just hate all these huge overblown bazillion dollar budget movies that run right over all the ones that have more substance and STAY with you. They’re not something you walk out of and say “oh that looked cool” and don’t think about again.

It looks like absolute shit. Even visually. I don’t look at TV sized blue people in faky CGI and think, OH, I NEED TO SEE THEM FOURTEEN FEET HIGH! Who does? Answer: stupid people.

I agree it didn’t even impress me vissually in 3D IMAX. The plot is gobbledygook.

**cricetus **we get the point

Whenever someone makes wide-sweeping and ignorant statements, I assume they are stupid.

Three times in a row, no less. His posts have less substance than any given moment of Avatar.

Just sayin’. I’m sick of the hype. I’m sick of grown ups who admit it was terribly written still fawning over the giant blue people. Are we all ten?

I agree, It’s a good thing Avatar isn’t like that. As I said in another thread, there are people who just can not and will not ever understand just how LOVED Avatar and Titanic are, and will forever be scratching their heads at the money they’ve made and the kudos they’ve gotten (and will get, when Avatar wins the Oscar).

I was rooting for The Hurt Locker tonight, and will be rooting for The Hurt Locker at the Oscars, but Avatar totally deserves everything it gets. I’ll cheer whichever one wins.

It’s always weird to watch The Golden Globes because I’m not a TV person. I’ve always seen all of the nominated films, but never one second of any of the television nominees. I know they’re all very very good and I’m the one missing out, but I’m looking forward to the Oscars because it’s film only.

Apparently you’re unable to discern “grownups who admit it was terrible written” from those “still fawning” over it.

You’re the only one here giving an impression of being 10.

But is Avatar loved because it had a fantastic story and great, well developed, interesting characters, good story flow and a lasting effect on its viewers? Or because it is the most expensive/advanced visual film ever made? I’m not really trying to say Avatar is a shitty movie, but is it really its immense amount of special effects that made it win? If a movie has those fantastic graphics AND a fantastic story and acting that is one thing. Maybe I just tend to like films who worry a lot more about the story and the characters then ones that spend their money on the scenery.

No, people have told me that it was terribly written but they liked it for the big blue people. It’s not necessary to “discern” when it’s the same person tell you those two things.

Also, it looks terrible and people immediately lose 60 IQ points in my eyes for wanting to see it unless they have ten year old children and they are seeing it with a sense of dread. Especially because every James Cameron movie is the same overblown, overhyped, badly written shit.

Also because even on the small screen the blue people look stupid.

Also because anyone who’s taste I actually trust who has seen it has confirmed my suspicion that the movie is shit.

Do you have to be ten years old to enjoy a fantasy movie? Especially a fantasy movie that has one of the most richly realized “other worlds” on film? If you are only a fan of “realism” in movies, then fine, but it’s a pity that you limit your horizons like that.

And if you haven’t seen the film, can you really comment on the CGI? It isn’t “fakey” looking, at least no more so than any 10 foot tall blue alien can look. I don’t think you can name any other film that even approaches this one in terms of photorealistic CG humanoid characters. It is an impressive technical achievement. It stands head and shoulders above any other movie I’ve seen on that front.

Heck, I like Avatar but I don’t think it’s the greatest thing ever–the only other “Best Motion Picture - Drama” nominee that I’ve seen this year is Inglourious Basterds, and I’d pick it over Avatar. From most accounts, The Hurt Locker and *Up In The Air *are even better.

It’s really childish to develop an irrational hatred for something you don’t know much about, and call people “stupid” who do know about it and enjoyed it.

Do you realize how meaningless your opinion is provided you haven’t even seen the movie in question?
