I’m glad he did this but I also think he’s setting himself up as the logical, statesman-like choice for GOP candidate in 2024.Perhaps by then Trump’s control of the party will be over?
I welcome any trend of Republicans deciding that running on facts and truth is politically expedient. It’s a low bar, but it is a bar that most Republicans cannot get over.
Even if something happens to Trump between now and then, “the base” is too invested in white supremacism, America-Firstism, and anti-science to go back to any traditional (aka “statesman-like”) choice for the GOP nomination.
They’ve gotten a taste of fascism and they believe they’ll do great under it. They’re quite wrong, of course: they’d be powerless serfs under GOP perpetual one-party authoritarian rule.
But they don’t know that. They’ve been sold a fantasy in which all the Uppity (wrong race, wrong gender, wrong religion, wrong orientation) bow down to them each time they enter a room—and they crave that fantasy so fervently that they will not tolerate any candidate that fails to promise its fulfillment.

Even if Trump drops dead or doesn’t run for some other reason one of his acolytes (think Cruz or Hawley or even DeSantis) will be supported by the MAGAT crowd long before they even consider turning to Pence. If Pence runs in '24 he will be crushed in the primaries.
Perhaps I’m just thinking or hoping that normalcy will return to the Republican Party.
It might eventually. But not anytime soon. And Pence isn’t the person who will do it. He’s far too much of a milqutoast.
He might have looked normal when he was standing next to his boss, but Pence is NOT normal. He’d love to round up trans/gays and have them re-educated, if not forcibly “converted”. A Pence regime would enable anyone who wanted to turn America into a Theocracy. Oh, and the “Theo” would be the White Male Fundamentalist one, with a white beard.

I am nevertheless glad that he’s been Lawful about this particular issue.
He followed that up with:
“Under the Constitution, I had no right to change the outcome of our election, and (Vice President) Kamala Harris will have no right to overturn the election when we beat them in 2024,” Pence said.
So he’s at least aware that those games work both ways.
I certainly don’t disagree with this observation, but I would add that Pence has had and still has the backing of the Koch family, who have extremely deep pockets.
He never delivered much during his time as VP… why would the “Koch family” care to further fund him?
He’s an old grey horse who didn’t jump very far… MTG is such a young filly they might get further gag.
My bet would be on the Kochs putting their money behind DeSantis or someone similar. As conservative as they are I find they are pretty savvy when it comes to things like this. MTG is much too much of a nutcase, even for them. Just my opinion.
