In the category of shocking but is anyone surprised? Trump cared less about the damage to property and violence than he did about how the protestors looked “low class”.
In the category of Trump lands on his feet once again. Unless Trump is impeached and removed from Office in the next 10 days, he’ll receive all the benefits of a former President. Removal by the 25th Amendment doesn’t do it. Neither does impeachment after his term is over.
More corporations need to be suspending their donations to politicians who incited the riots. OK, all corporations to all politicians. Corporations are not people.

Republicans got caught in bed with a hooker and now their zipping up their pants. They’ll lay low for a while; they’ll brush it off as an “indiscretion” and they’ll shift the focus back onto “socialism” and how the Democrats are trying to take their country away from them.
I predict that the ones who hang their heads low and say “I’m sorry” will regret it a year or two from now; there will be those who be defiant and they will be rewarded for it. Who knows – some of the ones being charged might become martyrs for their “lost cause.”
No, no, that’s not how it works now. They simply won’t believe that Trump ever said it. It’s merely more evidence of “fake news” from the LSM, doncha know.
WaPo is reporting that the Capitol Police officer who died today was on duty during the siege and that police sources are telling them that it was suicide.
I heard about this. I think we’ll see what happens over the next months, but I hope it wasn’t that he knew what camera footage showed. Oh, wait, he was off-duty? Your statement is on duty, but the headline says off-duty.
In at least one example of bravery and intelligence on behalf of law enforcement that day, Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman was alone as the mob came storming up the steps to the Senate Chamber. There were two corridors at the head of the stairs – one leading straight to the Senate chamber, and one leading away from it. Goodman shoved the lead rioter, then moved to defend the corridor leading AWAY from the Senate. The mob followed assuming that was the way to the Senate, buying time for other officers to secure the chamber.
Thanks for posting that, flurb. I’d seen video of him shoving a rioter and then retreating, but had had no idea that while doing so he was misleading the mob away from the Senators – I had thought he was trying to get to the other officers for backup, having been caught alone on the stairs.
I suspect it might be a bad idea for a lone man with no shelter to shoot at a mob. He wasn’t well enough armed to shoot them all, and the rest of them might have beaten him to death instead of running away.
Of course, if they’d caught him they might have anyway – hard to tell.
