Pence will have memory problems, I predict.
Nitpick: IAN Ludovic and cannot speak for him etc. But my take is that his “misread the last word” quip was a double-entendre about Trump’s allegedly tiny, um, personal barrel length. Not in any way a joke about attacking Trump with firearms.
Which is dumb because they’re gonna hate him anyway.
That’s a fair observation, but not everyone (see current moderator) will get the joke and may take the meaning as more aggressive than intended.
I would also just note that these gratuitous, off-topic comments add little to the discussion and are better suited to the Pit. We really want to cut down on them in the P&E forum, because they so easily turn into lengthy hijacks.
Agreed, but even a faint hope is better than no hope at all.

Not sure what the logic is of different rules for what happened on Jan 6 as opposed to before,
As I understand it, Pence can’t raise executive privilege for his discussions with the President, because executive privilege is controlled by the current President, not a former President or a former V-P. So what he and the Donald chatted about just before the Donald tried to get the mob to hang him isn’t privileged.
He successfully relied on the “speech and debate” clause, because when he went into the chamber to count the electoral votes, he was exercising a legislative function, which is a separate protection:
“…for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.”
The text actually just refers to Reps and Senators, but the V-P is in an unusual position because he has legislative functions (tie-breaking and counting electoral votes), so I guess the clause applies to him? (Just speculating; haven’t seen the decision.)
I think that’s pretty thin soup- I think you can preside over a meeting without being a member with all the benefits thereof, including the speech and debate clause. If he was a full member of the body he’d have a vote on every issue, not just on those occasions where there is a tie and he’d be in every sessions, not just those ceremonial sessions or ones where his vote may be needed.

As I understand it, Pence can’t raise executive privilege for his discussions with the President, because executive privilege is controlled by the current President, not a former President or a former V-P.
While this does seem to be the consensus opinion, it’s not entirely clear whether that’s true because it hasn’t really come up much before.
The whole idea behind “Executive Privilege” is to allow the president to have frank conversations without worrying whether something will wind up hashed out in a court. If the incoming president of the other party can simply throw that privilege out, that could really put a damper on the conversations a president is willing to have.
the way i read it he must answer about anything outside of the time he was presiding over the joint session.
so from the time he sat in the chair to the time he was taken out of the chair. then from when he returned to the chair and left the chair early in the morning of the 7th.
everything else must be answered.
Or claim not to remember
Eventually, he can piggy-back some Prevagen commercials on his tell-all book deal.
Seems Chansley (shaman) has been released from jail to a halfway house.
I’m losing track of everything. At the time of the second impeachment was the fake electors scheme known?

the fake electors scheme known?
And are those idiots in prison?
Yes it was.
The fake electors publicized their attempts to vote. There were videos like this one on Youtube immediately they happened. There were videos in every disputed state, showing the fake electors casting their votes.

NEW: Minutes before he’s arraigned on charges in New York, Trump was dealt his latest significant defeat in the Jan. 6 special counsel investigation.
appeal court rejects trump teams argument regarding executive privilege.
Appeals court upholds order for Jan. 6 testimony from Meadows, other Trump officials (msn.com)
The case was assigned to a three judge panel at the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals late Monday night, with the Justice Department responding just two hours later, shortly after 1 a.m.
The order from the panel came just a few hours after Trump’s team responded Tuesday morning. Both the order and the parties in the case remain under seal.
“Continue at Litigation Warp Factor 1, Mr Sulu.”
LOL, that’s exactly what I thought when I heard about it! Laughing now.
does jack smith ever sleep or is he in european time zones?
He’s here in the States now, but I’ll bet he gets very little sleep. Based on his recent career choices before his special counsel gig, I’d say he’s used to it.
