A small digression. One can find many references to Trotsky being murdered with an ice pick. But it was the mountaineer’s ice pick/axe, not the bartender’s ice pick.

Both Palmer and Powell plea bargained.
Is another factor, in Powell’s favorable deal, that the prosecution needs, or at least wants, her testimony against co-defendants, and so was incentivized to give her an offer she could not refuse?
Or did they also need Palmer to testify?
If I was on the jury, I would probably disregard testimony that was obtained by offering a lesser sentence AKA a bribe. Yes I may be a defense attorney’s dream juror.
PhillGuy, you have a rather unique take on the American justice system and I don’t know if you’d get past voir dire during jury selection.
Removed.
These deals don’t always work out for the prosecution. Defense attorneys will have every opportunity to challenge the credibility of Powell’s testimony, and they will almost certainly use the plea deal as a basis to sow doubt among the jury. Powell will still have to be credible on the stand, and if the defense can successfully contradict her on specific points it could impeach her entire testimony.
They may get a more lenient sentence in the state of Georgia trial, but they still are facing charges in DC. I doubt that Jack Smith will give them such a sweetheart deal in the Federal court trial, or that the DC judge would entertain such a deal after having handed down prison sentences to others for far lessor crimes.
This one is being played for the long game and I think that Powell and Chesebro’s lawyers know this is what will happen and are already talking with Smith. They will serve some time in a Federal prision, which for them is more likley to be a much better place than a Georgia state prison that they know is a hell hole. That, and if Donald is elected President he can then pardon them!
With the plea bargain, that ship has not so much sailed as plummeted from its hoists, smashed the dry dock, started a pitch fire, and sunk ignominiously into a blackened mangle at the bottom of the bay, where it constitutes a hazard to navigation.
May I say, as this is not a pit thread, that considering the complaints of those convicted on associated crimes, that I look forward to them suing Powell, Fox, Trump and others that they feel may have had an undue influence over the actions they took are are being held accountable for?
Whether it succeeds or not, I am looking forward to it.
It would be amusing to see every single person who were convicted or pled out for 1/6 to join in a mass lawsuit against the above. And depending on how the testimony of Powell et al turns out, especially if confirmed and convicted (and we know from Fox’s trial/settlement as example that they knew it was almost all false) it could be an interesting trial.
“May it be so” is my devout prayer, amen, amen, amen… but it really is too soon to say.
Well, I meant their dream of a pardon sailing in to carry them away to freedom. Even if he is elected (which I join you in devoutly hoping will not happen), there’s not a chance Trump would pardon someone who flipped on him. He has no loyalty even to people who fall on their swords for him, let alone anyone who chose their own self-interest over his.

Apparently, some of the J6 crowd that have been convicted are a little salty that one of the people who flim-flammed them into prison has gotten off so light:
Attorneys for Jan. 6 Inmates Furious About Sidney Powell’s Breezy Sentence (msn.com)
I would note that Powell is still an unindicted co-conspirator in the Federal J6 case. She is by no means out of the woods yet, and could very well end up serving some time.
Autogolpe
nice!
nice!
TIL a new word.
Really? I’ve used “nice” for years.

He later filed a story with CBS:
A physical altercation broke out during a hearing in the case of Vitali GossJankowski, who was convicted of several charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
Maybe doxxing law enforcement agents on social media while you’re on trial for a violent crime isn’t the best strategy.
Well, that would be a good point, but what does it mean when you doxx law enforcement agents on social media after you’ve been CONVICTED (if not yet sentenced) for violent crime and you’re in court because the Feds want you in JAIL while awaiting said sentencing?
-only poking a bit of fun, no harm intended to @Gyrate-

Even less constructive of a strategy, although still better than getting physically violent in the courtroom and being restrained by quite a lot of officers. But this is a Trump supporter we’re talking about.
