To their credit, some GOP senators are pushing back on Trump’s labeling the J6 prisoners as “hostages.”

Do not, repeat, do not piss off the judge before he hands down your sentence.
A man who stormed the U.S. Capitol with fellow Proud Boys extremist group members was sentenced on Wednesday to six years in prison after he berated and insulted the judge who punished him.
Marc Bru repeatedly interrupted Chief Judge James Boasberg before he handed down the sentence, calling him a “clown” and a “fraud” presiding over a “kangaroo court.” The judge warned Bru that he could be kicked out of the courtroom if he continued to disrupt the proceedings.
“You can give me 100 years and I’d do it all over again,” said Bru, who was handcuffed and shackled.
“That’s the definition of no remorse in my book,” the judge said.
I had no idea there were so many insane people out there. Misguided, sure. Uninformed, perhaps. Lied to, certainly. But this is a whole other level.
Guy’s lucky there are sentencing guidelines or the judge might have been tempted to take him up on his offer.
Well, they’re just guidelines, right?
My theory is that a lot of these people have been targeted and damaged emotionally by propaganda and brainwashing. Both by right wing media and other believers. That leaves them damaged and dangerous, and they act irrationally.
They are victims and victimizers at the same time.
There are going to be many years of analysis over this movement, probably similar to those who analyzed the Nazi movement in Germany.
Agree. I wonder if these people will someday, maybe during their stay in prison, have a revelation that they threw their life away for a bunch of lies, or worse yet, for nothing at all. It did not have to be that way, but they took action and used violence, fueled by lies - I just have to wonder if any of them will wake up from the fever dream and say “oh, shit!” But, yeah, there are a lot of people who are in desperate need of de-programming, and the ones getting caught in the legal system may be the only ones that actually get some help.
The hardcore right have been radicalized by Fox News and its ilk in almost exactly the same way the angry, desperate, disaffected youth of Pakistan, Indonesia, etc. have been radicalized by Islamic extremists. Amp up their self-perception as victims, provide a scapegoat who can be blamed for that victimhood, lather rinse repeat, then mobilize and capitalize.
peter navarro 4 months for defying congressional subpoena.
A City of Chicago cop who entered the Capitol with his sister avoided jail time and is convicted of misdemeanors.
The loser is still on the police force, on unpaid leave. I read elsewhere that he is seeking renewal/return of his FOID card, a requirement for reinstatement as a cop.
I really would have wished that his actions would have resulted in him no longer being a gun carrying police officer.
It’s nice to see families doing things together, though.
The family that trespasses together, uh….sorry, can’t think of a good rhyme.
…dumbasses together?
Oh! That’s pretty good.
I’m simply going with:
The family that fucks around together, finds out together.
Even better.
Good - one of the main instigators nabbed.
I know - lawyer talk. But does anyone actually believe that Trump “respectfully disagrees” with the decision?
Nope. I think Trump spokesman Steven Cheung respectfully disagrees.
I think Trump believes that if he personally is not allowed to break the law and engage in insurrections, then that will be “nation-destroying”
