Don’t get me wrong; I’m not doubting it, I just can’t believe I’ve never noticed that particular word. Kind of seems like something that should jump out at you.
Certainly makes more sense than the conventional meaning.

My guess is I got at least five and maybe 8 wrong – I made five WAGs and there are three or four others that seem right but might be wrong. Q21 has two words that could fit in that spot except for the following verse, and I’m not sure which word goes with that verse. Anyone who doesn’t know the answer to 27 should turn in their Doper papers immediately. OK, I’m ready to look at answers now.
Most of the ones I stumbled on were difficult for others as well although I feel a bit dumb on 7, 10 and 50. (I guess I never figured out what they were saying on 37.) There seems to be no consensus so far on #25–everyone’s got a different guess-- and only 2 people agree on 44, but I believe those two are correct. After looking at the other answers I’ll adjust and say I got 11 wrong.
Great thread! I might want to make up my own questions sometime.
Some of these will be bothering me for days now.

Funny, I count 5 people including myself. And yes, we’re right on that one.
Incidentally
The subject of that song was the same inspiration for the stage musical “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”.
:smack:I stand corrected. I was going from memory and forgot the hanging/knocking difference.
My laziness – I reviewed everything quickly, and didn’t take the time to look at the ones that used individual spoilers for each question.
Surprised no one has gotten this one. Though I can’t say I checked really closely.

**Some of you answered lyrics that were from a different verse. They were counted as incorrect. **
-
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of SOUND -
He got a custom Continental
He got an Eldorado too
He got a 32 gun in his pocket for fun
He got a RAZOR in his shoe -
But the Colorado rocky mountain high
I’ve seen it rainin’ fire in the sky
The shadow from the STARLIGHT is softer than a lullabye
Rocky mountain high -
Saturday night I was downtown
Working for the FBI
Sitting in a nest of bad men
Whiskey bottles piling high -
Sing us a song, you’re the piano man
sing us a song tonight
Well, we’re all in the mood for a MELODY
And you’ve got us feelin’ alright -
They say SPAIN is pretty though I’ve never been
Well Daniel says it’s the best place that he’s ever seen
Oh and he should know, he’s been there enough
Lord I miss Daniel, oh I miss him so much -
Hey, ain’t it good to know that you’ve got a friend?
People can be so COLD.
They’ll hurt you and desert you.
Well they’ll take your soul if you let them.
Oh yeah, but don’t you let them. -
We get it almost every night
When that ol’ moon gets-a big and bright
It’s a SUPERNATURAL delight
Everybody’s dancin’ in the moonlight -
In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed,
In the Maritime Sailors’ Cathedral.
The church bell chimed till it rang 29 times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call ‘Gitche Gumee’.
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early! -
Her name was Lola, she was a SHOWGIRL
With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there
She would merengue and do the cha-cha
And while she tried to be a star, Tony always tended bar
Across a crowded floor, they worked from 8 till 4
They were young and they had each other
Who could ask for more? -
Now, for ten years we’ve been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rolling stone
But, that’s not how it used to be
When the JESTER sang for the king and queen
In a coat he borrowed from James Dean
And a voice that came from you and me -
I know a man
He came from my home town
He wore his passion for his woman
Like a thorny crown
He said DOLORES
I live in fear
My love for you’s so overpowering
I’m afraid that I will disappear -
Celia, you’re breaking my heart
You’re shaking my CONFIDENCE daily
Oh, Cecilia, I’m down on my knees
I’m begging you please to come home
Come on home -
Tried to give you CONSOLATION
When your old man had let you down
Like a fool, I fell in love with you
you turned my whole world upside down -
Well I am going down to YASGUR’s farm
Going to join in a rock and roll band
Goin’ to get back to the land to set my soul free -
I got a freaky ole lady name a cocaine KATIE
Who embroideries on my jeans
I got my poor ole grey haired daddy
Driving my limousine -
Now here I go again, I see the CRYSTAL visions
I keep my visions to myself
It’s only me
Who wants to wrap around your dreams and…
Have you any dreams you’d like to sell? -
We’ve got rural scenes & magazines
We’ve got truckers on the CB
We’ve got RICHARD PRYOR on the video
We got time to think of the ones we love
While the miles roll away
But the only time that seems too short
Is the time that we get to play -
I said “Hey, what’s your name, baby?”
maybe we can see things the same
Now don’t you wait or HESITATE
Let’s move before they raise the parking rate -
When I get lonely and I’m sure I’ve had enough
She sends her COMFORT comin’ in from above
We don’t need no letter at all
We’ve got a thing that’s called Radar Love -
American Woman, get away from me
American Woman, mama let me be
Don’t come a knockin’ around my door
Don’t wanna see your SHADOW no more
Coloured lights can hypnotize
Sparkle someone else’s eyes
Now Woman, I said get away
American Woman, listen what I say -
He’s crawling down the CORRIDOR
On his hands and knees
Old Charlie stole the handle and
The train won’t stop going
No way to slow down -
I pulled my HARPOON out of my dirty red bandana
I was playin’ soft while Bobby sang the blues, yeah
Windshield wipers slappin’ time, I was holdin’ Bobby’s hand in mine
We sang every song that driver knew -
Some SILICONE sister with a manager mister told me I got what it takes
She said “I’ll turn you on sonny to something strong, play the song with the funky break”
And go-cart Mozart was checkin’ out the weather chart to see if it was safe outside
And little Early-Pearly came by in his curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride
Asked me if I needed a ride -
I never had a damn thing but what I had I had to leave it behind.
You’re the hardest thing I ever tried to get off my mind.
Always something greener on the other side of that hill.
I was born a WRANGLER and a rambler and I guess I always will -
Rebel souls
DESERTERS we are called
Chose a gun and threw away the sun
Now these towns
They all know our name - 6-gun sound is our claim to fame
I can hear them say
Bad company -
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of COLITAS rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy, and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night -
Late last night
I heard the screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi
Took away my old man
Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you’ve got
Till it’s gone
They paved PARADISE
And put up a parking lot -
Cold hearted orb
That rules the night
Removes the colours
From our sight
Red is gray and
Yellow white
But we decide
Which is right
And which is an ILLUSION -
Money, get away
Get a good job with more pay and you’re O.K.
Money, it’s a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a STASH
New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think I’ll buy me a football team -
I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the FANDANGO
Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very fright’ning me.
(Galileo.) Galileo. (Galileo.) Galileo, Galileo figaro
Magnifico. I’m just a poor boy and nobody loves me. -
Clowns to left of me, JOKERS to the right,
Here am I stuck in the middle with you. -
I got a Black Magic Woman.
I got a Black Magic Woman.
Yes, I got a Black Magic Woman,
She’s got me so blind I can’t see;
But she’s a Black Magic Woman and
she’s trying to make a DEVIL out of me. -
We weren’t in love oh no far from it
We weren’t searching for some pie in the sky SUMMIT
We were just young and restless and bored
Living by the sword
And we’d steal away every chance we could
To the backroom, the alley, the trusty woods
I used her she used me
But neither one cared
We were getting our share -
Won’t go to hear them play a TANGO
I’d rather hear some blues or funky old soul
There’s only one sure way to get me to go
Start playing old time rock n’ roll -
In the day we sweat it out in the streets of a runaway American dream
At night we ride through mansions of glory in SUICIDE machines
Sprung from cages out on highway 9,
Chrome wheeled, fuel injected
and steppin’ out over the line -
Well there’s a rose in the FISTED glove
And eagle flies with the dove
And if you can’t be with the one you love honey
Love the one you’re with -
Give me a job, give me SECURITY
Give me a chance to survive
I’m just a poor soul in the unemployment line
My God I’m hardly alive
My mother 'n father, my wife and my friends
You’ve seen them laugh in my face
But I’ve got the power and I’ve got the will
I’m not a charity case -
Well I never been to Spain
But I kinda like the music
Say the ladies are INSANE there
And they sure know how to use it
They don’t abuse it
Never gonna lose it
I can’t refuse it -
You’re built like a car, you’ve got a hub cap diamond star HALO
You’re built like a car, oh yeah
You’re an untamed youth that’s the truth with your cloak full of eagles
You’re dirty sweet and you’re my girl. -
Spent the last year
Rocky Mountain Way
Couldn’t get much higher
Out to PASTURE
Think it’s safe to say
Time to open fire -
I will remember you
Your SILHOUETTE will charge the view
Of distance atmosphere
Call it morning driving thru the sound and
Even in the valley -
I’ve been to Hollywood, I’ve been to REDWOOD
I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold
I’ve been in my mind, it’s such a fine line
That keeps me searching for a heart of gold -
Well, I hear it’s fine if you got the time
and the TEN to get yourself in.
A hmm, hmm.
And I hear it’s tight most ev’ry night,
but now I might be mistaken. -
He’s the hairy-handed gent who ran amuck in Kent
Lately he’s been overheard in MAYFAIR
Better stay away from him
He’ll rip your lungs out, Jim
I’d like to meet his tailor
Werewolves of London -
And you say you wanna go for a spin
The party’s just begun, we’ll let you in
You drive us WILD we’ll drive you crazy
46a. Hey, hey mama said the way you move,
Gon’ make you sweat, gon’ make you groove.
Ah-ahh child way ya shake that thing,
Gon’ make you burn, gon’ make you STING.
Hey, hey baby when you walk that way,
Watch your honey drip, I can’t keep away.
-
Now in darkness world stops turning
Ashes where the bodies burning
No more war pigs have the power
Hand of God has struck the hour
Day of JUDGEMENT, God is calling -
And when my mind is free
You know a MELODY can move me
And when I’m feelin’ blue
The guitar’s comin’ through to soothe me -
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all OBSTACLES in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day. -
Very superstitious, writing’s on the wall
Very superstitious, LADDER’s bout’ to fall
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin’ glass
Seven years of bad luck, the good things in your past
