When I type … and press the spacebar, it’s replaced by …
(Pro-tip: You can undo the replacement by pressing Ctrl+Z.)

This is something I’m used to from Microsoft Word and Outlook, but today is the first time I’ve noticed it happening on the SDMB. Is it a new feature of the board, due to an upgrade? Or just something I failed to notice for the past 14 years?

… … … … … …

Not seeing it unless it happens after you hit post.

eta:nope

Nothing has changed on the SDMB side of things.

I can’t reproduce it on either Windows 7 or Windows 10, both running Firefox. What browser/OS are you using? It might be related to a recent browser upgrade.

test … test … test …

Nope, nothing for me (Chrome, Windows 10)

… = three periods in a row
… = option semicolon on a Mac

Officially and professionally we use escape number 8230 …

Hmm, I saw it in Microsoft Edge on Windows 10… After noticing it, I tried Internet Explorer and got the same, so I figured it wasn’t browser specific, but maybe it’s just a Microsoft thing.

Funny I’ve never noticed before, since I think I use ellipses a lot. But now I notice it doesn’t happen if I put spaces in between the periods . . . which is my usual style. On Thursday when I noticed it, I was leaving the spaces out for some reason. Maybe my brain had a software upgrade. Or … downgrade?

I just wish the software was smart enough to turn this – into this —.
