$850.00

Not mundane and pointless, but also not a rant…

I feel sick to my stomach. I lost $850 in rent money today.

I actually had to go to my bank to show them my marriage certificate so I could change my last name. I also needed to put some money in my account.
I had some money in a bank envelope from another bank (joe_cool’s bank). I took out some money, placed the envelope on the managers desk, and left it there. It was 9 minutes until closing time. By the time I realized I left the envelope on her desk, they were closed and gone for the holiday.

I tried not to panic, but I ended up breaking down into tears. I feel like dying. I never lost that much money before.
If the money is still there and an honest person picked it up, how can I prove it’s even mine?! I called the 800 # and told one of the reps, but I think it’s a lost cause.

What a way to start the new year jerseydiamond :frowning:

Anywho, Happy New year…

I’m sorry to hear this. :frowning: Here’s to hoping that someone honest may find it and that it may be returned to you.

How awful for you. Look, hang in there – you said you left it on the manager’s desk, it could well still be there or in the bank’s safe-keeping (you did say it was close to closing). Take it easy, and sort it out as soon as the bank reopens.

Thinking good thoughts for you.

Despite what you may think-banks are really honest places. In addition, if the envelope is NOT there, you are within your rights to request to view the surveillance footage from the time you were there until closing. Unless this is a really old facility, CCTV records in time lapse mode darn everything that goes on outside of the bathrooms, such that if someone did kipe your $, the perp will be seen.

Breathe deeply and visualize a green shower of money-your money, returning to you as the swallows to Capistrano. (Except that your money won’t poop on the ground.)

Good luck and happy trails

I think the fact that you left in on the manager’s desk while you were with the manager makes your chances of getting it back pretty good. It’s a horrible feeling to realize the left the money behind, but since you can’t do anything about it until Thursday, try not to dwell on it too much and have a good New Year’s.

Wow, shades of “Its a Wonderful Life.” I hope this ends with you running through the streets shouting, “Merry Christmas, everyone!”

Actually you ended the year in a shitty manner. Think what a great start it will be to the new year when the manager, who saw the envelope just before leaving and stored it safely in a locked drawer, returns your money come Friday.

Man, I love you guys… Thanks for making me feel better, and making me laugh!

God, I hope you guys are right!!!

Jersey, love, it looks like it’s being that kind of year for all of us. You’re not the first person to do this, and I have no doubt whatsoever you won’t be the last! Sheesh! I’ve beaten myself black and blue just because I locked myself out.

So, take a deep breath, hold it, let it out. Remember that God we spend so much time arguing about is looking out for you. Trust Him. By all means, pray, but trust Him. He knows what’s in your heart. He also knows where that blasted envelope is, but that’s a side issue. :frowning: Your worst fears probably won’t happen. I’d drop the probably, but I don’t know how bad yours get.

You’re not stupid. You’re not foolish. You’re just human. We Christians should know better than most that human beings make mistakes. We’re forgiven them, too, remember? It will be all right. It may not be what you want, but it will be all right.

Take care, if you see this tonight, try to have pleasant dreams, and the same goes for tomorrow night, too. Try not to worry, although if you’re anything like me, I’ve no doubt you will. Trust God.

The manager lady MUST have noticed, and said to himself, “Self, that beautiful lady must have left this, there is no way this side of the River Styx I’d ever forget a woman like that, I can only hope she returns to get it Thursday.” Plus you have a logged call to back up your story. I doubt too many people called to say they left $850 at that desk this afternoon.

You’re good. See ya Friday.

And honestly, look into deducting that from this year’s tax return! You don’t have that at year end! Flip side is you claim it as income in 2003, but live for the moment!

I’m so sorry, honey, but I am willing to bet you will get it back. If you had left it out front somewhere, it might be another story…but on the manager’s desk? I’d say your chances are really good.

But just in case, I’ll start praying that it WILL be so.

Have a Happy New Year, darlin’!

My Love,

Cheri

Jersey, I hope you’re able to put aside your worries and have a good New Year’s celebration with Joe and perhaps friends. I think people have given you reason enough for hope that it will be resolved easily come Thursday already, but I agree with them. And, with Cheri, you know you’ve got my prayers that it will come out right!

I’m sorry to hear this happened to you, JerseyDiamond. What a way to end the old year… :frowning: However, I am definitely sure the manager must have noticed it and put it away somewhere safe so you can collect it come Thursday or Friday. I’m praying that this is so…

IANACPA, but:

Can’t do it; casualty losses must be 10% of adjusted gross income to be deductable. IRS rules. Plus a $100 deductible applies, so only $750 could be claimed, even then.

If I did smilies I would have put one there. But I don’t.

Aww, that sucks hon!

Here’s praying everything works out for you!!

Bless your heart. I know how sick you are about it. I would be too. But, I’m “banking” you get your money back! I think the manager will be honest, let us know what happens.

Damn. What a way to start the new year. Very sorry this happened.

I’ll keep my fingers and toes crossed your money gets returned. Keep the faith. There are a few good people out there left.

God go with you, JerseyDiamond.
