I hate this movie with a passion! But DAMN! Lady Gaga nailed that number.
Go Giants!
After I saw Grand Budapest, I tried several times to get my parents to watch it because I thought they’d enjoy it. My dad especially.
They watched the Best Marigold Hotel instead. But they kept insisting they’d seen the Grand Budapest. Even after I convinced my mom that they were two different movies, and sent her an email with info on Grand Budapest on their cable On Demand, she still insisted she’d seen it.
Mom finally did see Grand Budapest - on a girls’ weekend with her sisters because I had recommended it. Not really the best movie for a bunch of old ladies to watch on a fun weekend out (not the worst tho).
I just told my dad I was watching the Oscars and he said he and mom hadn’t seen any of the movies. I said mom had seen Grand Budapest. He said “what? Isn’t that just coming out now? The sequel?” He still thinks it’s Best Marigold hotel.
He really really would enjoy Grand Budapest. And so does the Academy! I don’t think he’ll ever see it.
Yay for Birdman! I loved it.
Is it the dress, or is Oprah’s ass really that big?
Oprah presents Adapted Screenplay. Too bad Gone Girl wasn’t nominated. Love that Inherent Vice was nominated (should also have gotten Picture, Director and Actor noms).
The Imitation Game.
I could see Michael Keaton tell the director of Birdman, “You got 1!”
He’s nominated for director as well.
The Grammy Awards voters who just gave her a Grammy for her album of standards with Tony Bennett.
So happy for Graham Moore! Imitation Game rocked!
I just hope Boyhood beats Birdman for Best Picture. At this point, that’s all I care about.
John Stamos? Was that John Stamos in the audience? Are the Beach Boys playing later, too?
That was a great speech by Moore, and he got a standing ovation! He might have saved some lives tonight.
Graham Moore’s speech was great. Short but meaningful.
Nicole Kidman claps really strangely. She curves her fingers back, far far back, such that only the palms of her hands come together. Such a bizarre sight.
Gay rights, women’s rights, black lives matter. Woo hoo! I’m not a fan of podium politics, but everyone has been so poignant and effective in calling out these issues.
It’s that big. It was a good dress for her size/ body type.
I haven’t seen Boyhood. Or Selma. Or American Sniper. Or The Theory of Everything.
I liked (almost) all the nominees I did see. Birdman was inventive and jazzy and really different. The Imitation Game was a well-made, rather traditional-style film with great performances. The Grand Budapest Hotel was delightful.
Foxcatcher. I didn’t care much for Foxcatcher, especially the directing, but I thought Ruffalo and Carrell were excellent.
Best Director:
Birdman!
Ben Affleck presents Best Director.
Alejandro González Iñárritu for Birdman.
Linklater looked genuinely pleased with Birdman director. I still think Boyhood was the harder movie to direct even though I think Birdman is the better movie.
Weird, but kind of true.
