Yo,
While I wait for one of my other threads to load I decided to start a new thread based on one of my favorite SD threads of all time, Rock, Paper, Scissors Roshambo. I have plenty of time to post this because I am using the World Renowned Free Juno ISP, well know for its awesome bandwidth .
Any way, a life time ago (like 2 or 3 years) there was a thread called Rock, Paper, Scissors Roshambo. Try as I might I cannot find this thread, but I will try to rephrase the OP as best I can, although im sure it wont be nearly as eloquent as the other was.
Here’s the deal, it is like Rock, Paper, Scissors except that anything is fair game for an attack including but not limited to abstract concepts, historical or literary occurances, objects, math proofs, physics theories, religious ideals, you name it. Anything goes. For example I could attack with ‘D-Day’ and one of you could counter with ‘Germany Develops Da Bomb First’ and attack with ‘A Lime Green 1984 Pinto’. This is a battle of wits based on logic, not the roll of the die (unintended pun there…).
First, some ground rules, this will be a formal battle. The other thread had no rules and ended up being an anarchistic jumble of raw thought.
-
Each post by a player is considered one turn, other than the post exceptions and other rules mentioned below.
-
Each player’s turn will consist of a counter and an attack. Multiple counters to multiple attacks are allowed, and sometimes required. Multiple attacks are allowed following attack rules below. They may also only attack, but any specific attacks are considered successful.
-
Attacks can be either general or specific, in a general attack, no name is specified, but with a specific attack the username of the player attacked must be specified.
-
If someone specifically attacks another player, that player must counter the attack, following the counter rules below. If the attack ends up being successful, the attacker gains a point and the defender loses a point.
-
If a player is attacked they have 2 real time days to counter the attack before the attack is considered successful. Also, if the defending player does not counter the attack before placing another general or specific attack, the attack is considered successful.
-
Successful attackers will be awarded 1 point while the unsuccessful defender will lose 1 point.
-
If a general attack is not countered within 2 real time days, or if another general attack is made, the general attack is considered successful and the player who posted the general attack will be rewarded a point.
-
If a general attack is made with an existing, un-countered general attack still open, the attacking player loses a point.
-
If an unsuccessful counter to a general attack (see counter rules below) occurs the player that posted the counter will lose 1 point while the general attacker will gain 1.
-
If someone successfully counters a general attack, they gain 1 point.
-
Only one general attack may be placed per turn or up to 3 specific
attacks to 3 different players may be made per turn. The player may only make one general OR 3 specific attacks per turn. A player may still make any number of counter-attacks in addition to these attacks (see below). -
Players may not specifically attack themselves (unless they have a VERY good logical or philosophical argument for doing that).
-
Once a turn is placed by a player, they may not take another turn until the attacks they made are resolved, or the 2 day waiting period is up, but they still may counter specific attacks made against them (see below).
-
At any time if a player is specifically attacked and they successfully counter the attack, they may counter-attack the player that attacked them. This is not considered a turn, but may be included in a turn.
-
All counters must somehow logically, philosophically, or ‘physically’ nullify, deflect, or otherwise render moot the attack. An illogical or otherwise nonworking counter can be contested by anyone ‘playing’, in which case whoever posted the counter in question will have a chance to explain the counter, their logic, etc. Then, based on mutual consent of the masses, the counter will either be considered a successful counter or a failed counter. Any counter-attacks or attacks by that player will be ignored based on the rules above. This all must happen within 2 days or the counter is considered unsuccessful.
-
Simultaneous turns/posts (SimulPosts)are considered any posts within 3 minuets of each other.
-
If a SimulPost conflicts with another post in the manner of attacks/counters, they are considered happening at the same time. Any conflicts raised by this will be decided by the mutual consent of the masses.
-
If a player does not post for one week (7 days) they are considered ‘dead’ and cannot be the target of specific attacks. The player is fair game once again after they post again (other than the non-turn posts listed below)
-
Comment, question, contestion, and consent posts are not considered turns.
Sorry about the complexity and confusion of the rules. The rules of this game are really only common sense and fair play, but it is still good to have the rules because this changes everything from total disorder to something actually resembling a ‘game’. These rules definatly need work, as does the point system. As you can see, other than in a few cases, the net points of all the players will almost aways be pretty close to 0. This may be better than other point systems because it adds more competition to the game, as well as somewhat keeps the game balanced.
