A belated MMP

Evening all! TGIT!!! It’s the weekend!

Busy week, with a nice finish - I got my old boss (the newer, nice woman, not the psycho beeyotch) to take me and my boss out for lunch, in the name of business development! So we left the office at 1pm, sneaked off to a nice hotel, whose restaurants are still open for lunch during Ramadan, and had teppanyaki for lunch. But the best bit was that I didn’t pay for it!

In other news, I took Monday off work to take HRH for her second Pneumococcal vaccination and to see the doctor myself, since my left foot has been bothering me for a couple weeks. It turns out I have tendonitis, right under the ball of my foot, so no heels for the next few weeks - which means I need to go shopping for some new shoes! (ahhh, come on - any excuse will do!). HRH cried for a whole 5 seconds during her vaccination, but stopped as soon as she laid eyes on the large pink balloon the nurse had for her, and started chanting “balloon, balloon, balloon”! Remind how long I have before I start wishing she’d shut up?

herbs, I’m pleased your doctor visit went well and your results are okay!

How do you make a buttery nipple? Inquiring minds …

Anyone in Ike’s path, good luck and I hope all that comes of it is some nice rain (I think I remember what that looks like). To be honest, I really miss the sound of heavy rain falling on the roof, especially when you’re laying in bed, snuggled under the blankets! That sound is unmistakable and irreplaceable!

I told my doctor that I drive waaaay too fast to worry about cholesterol. She didn’t think that was funny.

BTW, a low carb diet will take care of both issues.

YAY!

The new recycling bins are here! They’ve been promising to give us all large-ish rolling cans for recycling instead of those not-much-bigger-than-milk-crate totes.

Awww… false alarm. They were just changing out trash bins for someone that moved in across the street. Must be only one person, or some intense recyclers as that’s the cutest little rolling trash can I’ve ever seen. And so clean! I’m covetous of the sparkling clean and shiny blue.

So where *are *the new recycle bins they’ve been crowing about for the past few months?

The music CDs just arrived, Meeks – thank you again!

And gt, PM or email me with your snail mail address and I can pass you on a whole BIG pile of Indian music! Meeks has been insanely generous with sharing it – Mumpers are the best!

Yay for no diabetes, Herbs! Boo on the cholesterol, though, although that’s a good reminder: I need to get my cholesterol checked too. And that also reminds me, I also need to get some routine blood work done before my next regular med refill appointment next month. It’s always something.

Isaac wants to go out and play. It’s just now the beginning of the time window for the FIOS guy, and I don’t want to go out with him until after the FIOS guy comes. Isaac doesn’t approve. He understands, but he’s sulking in the living room – he lay here with his Kong riiiight next to me for half an hour, and then realized I meant it when I said, “Later” (yes, he’s a smart boy), so is trying to make me feel guilty. He may yet succeed – but he’s still not getting to go out and play till after the FIOS guy arrives. Poor suffering doggie!

Short video of the not-very-interesting but cute stuff Nat was doing fifteen minutes ago. And a lot of new pictures.http://aerinlissar.blogspot.com/

Also, Nat, go to sleep. Mommy needs a nap.
Dotty, that’s sooo cute.

Bob, I think that’s funny.

I’ve tried a few recipes, though my favourite is a citrusy wheat berry salad that I have up on my blog. It’s really good if you throw in a couple of handfuls of golden raisins or dried cranberries for a touch of sweetness, too.

If you decide to give it a try, please do let me know how it turns out… I always love to hear what people think of my concoctions.

Glad that the doctor’s visit did not contain any horrible news, tarra, and that everything is manageable. Just remember to take your drugs, young lady, or we’ll have to sic Nurse Rigs and her still-unused can of whoopass on you.

ETA: also, I swear that Gnat gets cuter by the day.

Just pass it forward, love.

'ullo, all! Been feeling too overwhelmed to post for some reason–political overload I suspect. I sent the link to my DKos diary on election fraud out to a bunch of people and got back a snotty little message from my reactionary former FIL advising me to “get a life.” I got a smidgen heated and kinda nuclear blasted him outta the water. Maybe I’ll get lucky and not hear from him any more–my daughter gave me a hearty golf clap for my response, though, she’s getting overwhelmed with his negativity and stubbornness but she can’t be rude to Grandpa. Me now, I can be rude to anyone I like! So I do…

I went to the dollar store and scored a whole buncha nice deep lasagna pans so I can take lots of Death Chicken, pasta sallit and coffee cake to the rehearsal dinner but I won’t have to bring dirty pans home, yay! I was bummed out though, because I really wanted one of those individual slices of Key Lime Pie they have in the freezer section but they were all out. :frowning:

Got Himself’s sportcoat sleeves shortened and it’s at the cleaners getting all spiffed and pressed.

I had my mechanic friend over to fix something amiss with my vehicle and we had baked NOT for dinner with lethal amounts of bacon and shreddy sharp cheddar and green onions, it was so nom nom. The boys wanted dessert so I made them fresh blueberry smoothies with vanilla yogurt in–they love me!

See, herbs, toldja! I found that going vegetarian about 40-50% of the time takes cholesterol right down quick like… That and walking a half hour a day should pretty much straighten you out in no time.

I’m gearing up for the cooking marathon tomorrow–have to go out and get a few ingredients today, especially since we ate up all the bacon in our NOT last night! Thankfully all the dishes I’m making are fairly low prep aside from chopping a bazillion veggies for the pasta sallit–Himself will be in charge of bone removal from chicken thighs because that’s icky man work!

Himself wants me to inspect a new laptop build for perfection–later!

Hey Everyone! Member me?

Well, after three months with little internet, it’s still frustrating because I’m stuck on dial up. But I do have my computer now, so I will be on at least every few days.

The pregnancy is going great, though I can’t seem to pass a one hour glucose to save my life. But I’m good, the three hour came back clean both times. I’ve lost twenty pounds, but they don’t seem to be worried about it because I started out with ‘extra padding’ to begin with. I will be having this little girl on November 4th, Election day, and I was a good person and have my absent voting all in order.
What have I been doing for the last three months? We’ve been cleaning out the old house, (which we’ve got the downstairs cleaned out.) Living with a packrat, who inherited the house from his packrat parents who left most behind is exhausting work. So we’re still going through boxes every day, but moving has made Jim see the error of his ways, and after one very successful garage sale this summer, we will be having another at the end of this month, and I’m sure another in the spring. I still don’t have the house in order, like the decorating aspect of things. But I cleaned every day like a mad maid. So I have a very clean house. Bliss.
But now I’m starting to slow down and getting ready for the decorating and chilling out a little.
The weather has been very fall like. We’ve had both chili and stew this week. And last night I made pumpkin bread. Bring on fall!

So what have I missed? Anything good? Fill a girl in!

What have you missed? Didn’t you notice the hot-tub in the corner? A leftover from the frivolity of The Lost Weekend (courtesy of the server upgrade, we had a no holds barred weekend of post whatever the hell you want 'cause come Tuesday it’s all gone, just a fond memory of swampy streaking nekkid through the MMP and dive-bombing everyone in the hot-tub).

And … ummm … LiLi went back to work. I changed jobs again, BooFae finally changed jobs and said bye-bye to nasty old Tin Knickers, VBob saved a few more lives, several mumpers had deathly doses of the flu, and rigs posted a new best-selling, must-try-it-now recipe, called Death Chicken. Everyone else will be along shortly to fill in the rest of the gaps!

Welcome back NoLa!

Hey, it’s TagFree! I was just thinking about you the other day, wondering how the pregnancy was going n’ stuff. Welcome back to the asylum.

I’d like a forcefield to put around my desk to stop bored coworkers from coming by and yammering at me for 20 minutes when they feel like it, especially the ones who feel the need to eat my cookies when they do it. Grrrr. Unlike some people, I have stuff to do (no really, I do… I just surf the Dope while my updates load, which tends to take several minutes at a time).

That video is adorable, LiLi.

I offer general yays, boos, hugs, etc. to everyone else. I’ve been in skim mode all week. I also had bad dreams last night that made me face something I didn’t want to but needed to.

In good news, the sun is out again and I’m thesising away at a good clip. I made a Point and it felt good.

Thanks! It doesn’t include the next bit, where he wandered over and tried to get the liquor cabinet open. :o:eek: Less cute, more terrifying, we need child latches on the cupboards, and how do you childproof drawers?
I will only get to make tarte tatin if I manage to make it to the grocery store, where I promise to buy nothing but the necessary fruit. I should have picked up some plums or peaches yesterday, and didn’t. Your eclairs look beyond wonderful. I’ve only made choux pastry successfully once. I’ve made it unsuccessfully three times. :frowning:

I deny this and you can’t prove it. So There! :stuck_out_tongue:

Howdy Ohtaglessone! Glad the pregnancy is goin’ so well and that the movin’s all done and stuff.

herbs yay on the good news from the doc. HC is manageable. I have it and do pretty well with not a whole heck of a lot of changes. Just stuff I should be doin’.

Leftover potroast and veggies for dindin. It’s a slacker supper!

gotti ummm… look, I know you’re gay and all but gushin’ over recycling bins… well, that’s just a little too over the top.

Plus:

Good to see you, Labelless!

How’s the printer going now, Pie?
Oh, and if I can’t get to the store, does anyone who bakes think it would be possible to use either (or both) sweet or sour cherries, plus or minus blueberries? I think it might not be cohesive enough, but i’m not sure. They’re all frozen.

I suspect berries will be too juicy for a proper tarte tatin and also may cook up too fast given how small they are… you might end up with fruit mush on top, instead of a nice layer of caramelised fruit.

I’m happy to offer up my services as taste tester, of course.

As for my eclairs, I have a confession. I only photographed the pretty ones, so what you don’t see in the picture is the other half of the batch, which deflated within minutes of coming out of the oven. Apparently, beneath their golden-brown crispy outsides, my eclairs had a sneaky underbaked core. Sniff. They’re still good, but too flat to stuff, so I’ve settled for dunking them in the pastry cream.

I plan on sticking with Al Siecherman’s popovers unless it’s a really, really special occasion… those always seem to puff up prettily for me, and there’s far less fussing involved.

Drat. I thought maybe cherries would kind of work… I think we’ll either do clafoutis, chocolate gingerbread, or maybe a crumble. Or something.

Hee! We have a running joke in our house related to this. (Well, not to the eclairs, but to the flatness!) When we were doing the long-distance thing, I made muffins once to send to KT. But somehow I did something or other wrong and they were all flat. But I put them in an envelope anyway and put in a note “Sorry that the muffins are kinda flat, but they mail better that way!”

“They mail better that way” has been an inside joke ever since and is used in general to mean “I meant it that way!”

You’d gush too if you were an aggressive recycler and were provided with only two itsy-bitsy bins that only get picked up once every two weeks. I usually have to put out an additional two or three paper grocery sacks to hold the recycled paper, plus whatever cut-up or flattened carboard boxes we may have at the time. Between the regular recycling and the pop cans and bottles that we hold separately for the scouts, our recycle volume is considerably more than our trash volume.

I’m looking forward to having one big wheelie bin to chuck it all into, but I suspect we’ll still have more that it can hold.

The scouts at least provide a trash barrel almost big enough for me to hide in.
In case you were wondering, I’m not too keen on the Boy Scouts of America as an organization, but I hold no grudges against the local kids and will happily give them a few bucks a month in cans.

I GOT MY FINANCIAL AID!

And it’s a number that made me fall out of my chair. Oh, I’ll be paying this off for the rest of my natural life, but it’s worth it for the last four and a half years. I now know what I want to be when I grow up and that’s worth something at least.

Celebrate with Agony Aunt Ryl!
