A belated MMP

Wow! How cool! I’m glad I got you to sign up! I love reading old threads of mine. It’s kinda like looking at a snapshot.

The Death Chicken was very good! And super easy. I made sauteed zucchini and tomatoes for a side dish, and crusty French bread. There are two servings left - I might be having some for breakfast in a minute.

I got half of the dogleg finished before I pooped out yesterday. I’m gonna take the dogs to the park in a bit, because it looks like we’ll have just a tad of rain Saturday. More like a deluge. Ike is heading right for us! Mr Rebo bought a generator last night. It will run the chest freezer and refrigerator, but not the AC. We have plenty of food, and an extra propane tank for grilling.

I’m not quite as sore today, so that’s good.

I have no idea what’s been going on in the Pit. I’m glad I missed it!

Morning, kiddies. Caffeinating.

The little crock pots are perfect for making overnight porridge too. KT puts wheat berries in the pot with milk and water (not sure on the milk-to-water ratio but the liquid-to-wheat ratio is 3:1) with some brown sugar, a couple cinnamon sticks, some nutmeg, and 2 pods of cardamom. It’s gooooooood. We’ve tried quinoa porridge too, but didn’t like it as much, and we’re meaning to try buckwheat groats sometime too but like the wheat berries so much that we just keep sticking with them.

I brought this pumpkin cake in to work yesterday. I’ve made it before, and it’s always a big hit. It’s not too heavy, and it’s a nice fall-flavored cake. But someone else brought in an amazing chocolate torte thing so I ate that instead.

I decided to use some of our leftovers to make Mexican pizzas for dinner last night. I used corn tortillas as the base with salsa and Colby cheese on them and then leftover carnitas on top. Baked them for 15 min at 400 and they were yummy!

Sorry about the cat, Muppet, especially if you missed ganache because of her. Bailey just leaped up onto the mousepad, so I’ve had to type this message twice. Blasted cats.
We’re up, (well, I’m up), Nat’s down for a nap, and we’ve vacuumed and mopped. I feel productive. In a few minutes I’
ll wash the dishes, and then I think my chores for today are pretty much done, and I can lie around giggling at the kid and eating things. I think I might make a peach or plum tarte tatin.
The odd paragraph breaks are evidence that Bailey is still on the mouse.

Wheat berry porridge? YUM! I’d only been using my wheat berries to make salads so far, but now that mornings are cold enough to be porridge-ready this sounds like a must-try (especially since The Boy has issues with oatmeal, even the steel-cut stuff).

rigs, sending good vibes in direction of TH’s interview. Dontcha hate it when bosses screw up the scheduling? I had my fair share of that back in my retail days, and I don’t miss it one bit.

I’m proud of myself… it’s not even 11am yet, and I’ve already completed three reports. Yay me.

ETA: LiLi, tarte tatin and I’m not invited? Hmph. I’ll just have to make more eclairs, obviously, lest you manage to one-up me.

Rigs - you gave me hope about my son’s teacher. I am getting a bad vibe from her but am trying hard to bite my tongue because when it comes down to it she spends more hours at a stretch with my son than I do on the weekdays. So I am holding out judgement until I meet her in person.

tarragon - glad the boob-ama-squish went well

So, here’s my update on me - thought I had a dog for about 24 hours. One ran up into our garage during a terrible thunderstorm with a collar and a leash on it and I tried driving around the neighborhood and asking around about a lost dog but couldn’t find anyone and finally my dad called the shelter after 24 hours of it living in our garage and loving on us and my kids (it was super sweet) and they had already had a call about it so dad took it back to its owner who was missing us. So that was a little sad but I knew it was going back all along. Just kind of hoping.

My brother is in Houston and works on an oil rig so I am kind of freaked out that I can’t get in touch with him and worried about him and my SIL. I’m just going to have to assume that they both have enough sense to get in out of the rain. They do.

I’ve been up and caffinated since 6:45. I’ve been to the gym, been home, eaten a banana and lounged. Yesterday after working out I hopped in the Fake-N-Bake for 13 minutes and burned my boobies, butt and belly to a crisp so crunches sucked major donkey ass today. I only did about 30 and decided to go home (keep in mind this is after 30 mins on the elliptical and a round of arm and leg work) and the guy at the front desk looks at me and says “so, done and giving up already?” Stuff it, fat man. And yes, he looks like he’s 49 months pregnant. And he’s giving me shit… It was all in good fun I am sure.

OK, off to shower and brace myself for the water on the burn. Yuck. Then to do housework and get ready to work at the bar tonight. Big men’s dinner so lots of older men drinking scotch. Makes it easier than the 20 something girls that want shots of stuff that they can’t taste the alcohol in… All those girls get buttery nipples.

Good morning everyone. Here at work and caffienating.

I’m pleased to see Ed’s apology.

Hugs to all, luck at the doctor’s appointment, etc.

Back to slogging away at work. Well, not really slogging away. I have to look for something to do. There’s still no resolution to the loss of my data mining system and I NEED it dammit! I have reports that are on the edge of being overdue.

“It’s the same with men as with horses and dogs. Nobody wants to die”*

*Favorite song lyric of the day.
Somebody is going to get hurt today, I pretty much promise that.

The husband of a formerly good friend died suddenly Monday and I’m not going to the visitation. There will probably be a lot of people there from a time I don’t feel like re-living. Shame too, I like his wife, and he was a good guy.

Send her a card and a note, perhaps?

MBG what BBBobbio said. Seems appropriate. You pay your condolences and don’t have to show at the visitation.

Howdy Y’all! I’m on a break and thought I’d catch up on what’s happenin’.

Not much to report here. Still all gloomy and doomy out but no rain yet. This afternoon, or so I’m told.

Ok, I guess I need to get back to lookin’ like I know what I’m doin’ bein’ as I am at the brick and mortar place today.

Morning. Thurdays are just hurry-up-and-wait-for-Firday days.

Good on getting the generator, rebo. You will be glad to have it. My Houston-based brother left this morning at 4 a.m. to head for Dallas. That’s where his company relocates him in the event of a storm. Unfortunately, Ike is headed to Dallas, too. :smack:

I am hungry. My cereal didn’t do it for me this morning.

Tupug

Me too. I just N.O.Lunch and it’s only 11:45.

Morning, all. Barely. I slept badly, barely managed to crawl out of bed, and really, really wish I could just be back there to stay for the day. I feel like pure shite. Yuck.

Anyway, I’m glad your new boss is so non-TK, BooFae – you deserve a nice one for a change!

All you folks in Ike’s path, please be careful! He looks like a real bad boy. Here’s hoping he fizzles out before he hits the coast; he already did enough damage in Cuba.

Not much going on here today, except work, and the FIOS guy is supposed to come this afternoon and figure out what’s wrong with the new box, i.e. why it won’t populate the program guide which makes us unable to record anything. Here’s hoping the guy actually shows up when he’s supposed to. The idiot tech that scheduled the visit kept talking over Papa Tigs on the phone (he had it on speaker), so we’re not sure if he kept the appointment in the system or just canceled it altogether because he was pissed at us for daring to suggest he didn’t know everything and maybe it might be nice if he elevated the call to level 2. He’s the first obnoxious tech we’ve run into with Verizon, though, so I guess I won’t complain. Too much. Unless the FIOS guy doesn’t show up this afternoon!

Back to the salt mines.

ETA: Rebo, do make sure you guys secure the generator well. Papa Tigs had one when he lived in Guam, chained to his patio with heavy chains and locks, and it was still stolen; they cut the chains and took off with it. So keep a sharp eye on it – generators are highly desirable items in big storms, obviously!

Yeah, I was planning that already. I also spoke with someone I know will be there who’s passing on my regrets with all appropriate phony baloney excuses.

I read that as sallit mines. (You know, where swampy must go for sallit ingredients.)

In other news:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!

(damn Lexmark printer)

Yeah, it’s really yummy and not at all mushy. Rather chewy, actually.

What kind of salads do you use it in? I’m not a huge fan of grain-based salads, but I’m always willing to give a new one a try.

Another Hungry-But-Just-Ate-Lunch here.

Huge thank you to all the Mumpers who sent good thoughts my way, because my doctor’s appt. went fairly well. My sugar levels are elevated, but not high enough to consider me diabetic - I will need to get them down, though. My cholesterol, though, is way too high so am going on Zocor now, and I promised to remember to take it this time. Again, thanks to ALL for the good thoughts, yay!

Work is a beast … I think I’m going to do a mini-staycation next Thursday and Friday (9/18 and 9/19 … doncha know?!). I hopefully will be in a good frame of mind when I return to work on 9/22.

People are stupid.

Work people.

Well, not all of them, but enough of them.

Erg.

I agree, ITD. Right now I am doing three divisions’ work. I actually don’t mind all that much, but I am doing it because apparently no one else can figure out how to copy and paste into Excel.
