A belated MMP

It’s Monday?

blurf

sneaks in and waves

Been awhile since I wandered in here. I just seem to be so busy all the time lately.

Not much happening… need a tune up on the car, plotting my vacation next month and getting prepped for that… (Here we come Disneyland!), and just keeping busy.

leaves a plate of cookies and wanders off again

Rigs, just go register a free email somewhere–it’s usually really easy to get your own name @ whateverthehell.com and those are great for job looking emails. I wouldn’t use a work email addy when looking for another job, that’s not a good idea unless you’re applying for a transfer within the same company or something. I have a yahoo address I use for stuff like that–I ought to get the same thing @gmail just for S&G’s because I hate dealing with yahoo and their spam filters suck teh ballz.

I’m up, I’ve had cawfee and dyed my hair since I’ll be damned if I’m going to sit still for pictures this weekend with all that grey showing! Himself has been tapped on the shoulder to be the videographer for the event, so that’s cool. He has a steady hand and a pretty good eye, and he can edit the raw footage together into something cool afterwards, too. Technology is nice!

Watched “The Kite Runner” yesterday and cried my eyes out–that’s a real gut churner of a movie, I tell you what. Really good though, powerful. Also watched “The Other Boleyn Girl” and all I have to say is that for costume porn it’s quite scenic, but historically it’s very much :dubious::smack::rolleyes: Natalie Portman did her best, but way to trivialize the catalyst for the creation of the Church of England and the mother of the greatest sovereign England ever had–IMO, of course!

Grilled salmon with veggie relish was teh nom nom, no leftovers, not a single scrap… No idea about dinner yet, but I suspect it might involve the turkey cheddar brats I picked up. Gotta use up those nice hoagie rolls, dont’cha know.

Ah. I left a salient part out. This is job transfer within the [del]soulless, faceless institution that sucks our humanity and makes drones of us all[/del] hospital. Also, the system, as set up, does not allow you to use outside email (your email addy is your user name)–it’s an intranet. Sadly, because I am [del]a peon, deemed unworthy of regard[/del] not an administrator, I cannot even forward my own emails received at work to my home email account. Bastards!
Short nap, then finish the living room curtains (oh, you didn’t know I was doing that? Well, I don’t tell you everything!) and then cleaned the damned bathrooms.

Hai everybody.

Sorry for not starting up the MMP… no one said anything after I offered, so I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to.

You may all beat me with a limp noodle… that’s about all the abuse I can take at the moment, because ow ow ow ow ow do I ever hurt. Walking 60K in two days isn’t much fun even when the weather is good, and this year it ended up being drizzle and pouring rain for most of the route. The most rewarding part of crossing the finish line was knowing that there were dry clothes waiting for me on the other side.

The good news is, other than being tremendously sore, I am otherwise fine. No blisters, no sprains, and no other major owies. PLUS, this year’s walk raised over $13 million dollars for breast cancer treatment, research and survivor programs.

No photos, unfortunately. It was raining too hard for most of Saturday, and once it cleared up in the afternoon, my camera decided to go on strike. :frowning:

Good luck with your first shift back, LiLi. I’m sure Nat will make a fuss at first, but trust me, he’ll be fine. Don’t be THAT mom… you know, the one who calls home every 5 minutes to make sure everything is okay.

Hi! Hi! Hi! Here I am! It’s definitely Monday.

Li-Li, I hope your first day back at work is a good one. Oh, and re: Nat? He will miss you, for a few minutes. He’ll do this for a short while, and before you know it, he’ll pretty much forget to even wave bye at you.

All of you on “staycations” or vacations, enjoy them. I wish I was on vacation. However, seeing as how I’ve been back from my vacation for not quite a month yet, I can’t really complain too loudly.

My daughter had to call in sick to work today. It’s the first time she’s done this. When I picked her up last night, she sounded pretty cruddy. Stuffed nose, sore throat, itchy, watery eyes, general run-down feeling, etc. She told me she hoped to feel better today, but she called me and told me she felt worse. I told her to keep WELL hydrated, try to eat something, and where some cold meds were.

At least she won’t lose her hours, because she just basically switched shifts with someone. She’ll work Wednesday in return for a co-worker working her shift today.

I should finish up my lunch and get back to work now.

It’s no big deal! Here’s the post where you were unanimously voted in.

I’m glad you’re not hurt, and kudos for walking for breast cancer!

I cleaned out and packed up all the dishes that were in the hutch. I don’t know what to do with them - they were my Mom’s. I’m currently using another set of hers, too. Both are Fransiscanware - “Apples” and “Mixed Fruit.” I feel kinda bad that I want to get rid of both sets, and get my own dishware. But most are chipped, and you can’t really sell them anywhere, and she gave them to me.

Hey, if she gave them to me, to get some new ones, that means she didn’t really want them, right? I don’t have to feel guilty for getting rid of them, right? (Mom’s been gone for 20 years.)

Here’s some pictures of the hutch and table and chairs.

Awww, I miss all the fun. Normally, I’d have been 10-15 miles north of that, but instead, we were 100 miles to the south. 4.0 is right on the edge of “Oh hey, we had an earthquake!” and is officially classed as a light quake. Below that, it’s “Hmmm… did we just have a quake?”

First weekend of Faire is over, and it was BRUTALLY, HORRIBLY, DANGEROUSLY HOT. There were over two dozen EMT calls for people stricken by the 111-degree heat on Saturday. We have two or three EMTs stationed on site, so it’s not like we had two dozen ambulances coming in. AFAIK, they were all managed on site and nobody needed transport to a hospital. I have no idea how many other people were able to self-manage on their own or with help from friends and were not counted. On Sunday, it was “only” 100, but that was still enough to clobber a lot of people that were on the edge of dehydration and heat exhaustion from the day before.

Forecast for this weekend is mid-80s - low 90s - much better.

Now the question is what’s wrong with my finger? I’m keeping an eye on a figer that’s sore, a bit swollen and darker than its neighbors. Did I just manage to give it a good whack or is the small scratch on it the epicenter of some infection? If only I could email a picture to my doctor. I’d feel silly if I went there, lost half a day’s pay and paid the copay only to have him say “Looks like you hit it with a hammer or something.”

Still here, nothing to report.

Bathroom is clean. Death Chicken in oven (what can I say–all this talk about it made me want it). I gave up on the window treatment for now. It’s a silky material and a PITA to work with. It won’t drap–I am thinking of using some double backed tape of some kind to make it stay in place. I will not sew any of this. Any ideas? I want a basic swag with length to floor kind of thing. No time to look for pics, must pick up #1 son from HS.

I have death chicken in the oven too! It was a last minute executive decision. I had boneless chicken boobs all thawed out and was gonna grill 'em and just have grilled chicken sallit. Then on the way home, I thought, hmmm… death chicken… I have chicken thawed and all the ingredients… so I came in, put it together and popped it in the oven. I took some green beans out of the freezer which I thawed in the microwave. Whatever did we do before microwaves! I’ll steam those. I figure death chicken, steamed green beans and sallit will be a delicious dindin. Can’t wait. If it tastes half as good as it smells, I may just forego knife and fork and dive in face first.

Hope you’re feelin’ better Muppet. Yay for you for the walk and super yay for the 13 million raised!

gotti y’all watch it out in the heat and keep an eye on that finger. Infection is not our friend.

Rebo I luuuuuuuuurrrrrrrve that hutch! If you like the dishes, mayhaps you can find some replacements? Or just go find sump’n you like. You’re right in that mom gave ‘em to you cause she was gettin’ new stuff. Maybe son needs some dishes…

I second the idea of a throwaway email for job hunt stuff. I did one with gmail and that’s all it’s for. I’m hangin’ on to it in case sump’n should catch my eye. One never knows.

Ok, need to go check on death chicken.

Later Y’all!

I have been puttering today. Since we’re actually all caught up on work, which means no massive crunches – at least for a couple more days; I’m sure when the Congress[del]idiots[/del]critters return to work, I’ll be busy again – it means I could relax a bit. Ran some errands – went to the bookstore (I got out with only 2 books, aren’t you proud of me?), swung by Michael’s (spent less than $6 there, amazing!), and then came home and threw Isaac’s Kong for him. It’s a pretty day out, not too humid. I hope it stays this way for a few days. It looks like we’ll even be able to open the windows tonight <knock wood>.

I concur that Nat will survive your absence better than you will, LiLi. When snowbunny was not much older, about 18 months, I think she went to preschool for the first time – took off down the hall and never looked back. I was crushed. But you’ll both get used to it, and it’ll do him good to learn that other people can take good care of him, too. Even if you may not believe that at first!

Since you’ve cleaned your bathrooms, Rigs, would you like to come over and clean mine? Please?

Rebo, I have no idea how I could’ve missed such a ginormous red “Aye!”… I guess it was all the GINORMOUS fonts going on in last week’s MMP that threw me off.

Yeah. That’s it. We’ll go with that excuse.

So at this point, LiLi is 10 minutes into her first shift back at work. I’m guessing out of Nat and LiLi, it’s LiLi that will have the most trouble adjusting. Hope all is well.

I am bucking the Death Chicken trend and making pork chops with a rhubarb chutney instead, which I’ll probably serve up with mashed yams and a green sallit. Ain’t no way I’m eating that much saturated fat after spending all weekend walking my butt off.

That said, I’m also making chocolate eclairs filled with pear Earl Grey cream for dessert (it’s for last month’s baking challenge, which I’m a week behind in completing)… so I guess it kind of balances out anyway.

Room. Bathroom. The largest one (master bath) has yet to be cleaned. I won’t clean yours because I hate cleaning mine. (sorry)

It’s pouring again. Why? I need to do some stuff around here–where to start? Oh, it all sounds like too much work.

I’m having chicken stir-fry, because i have no nutmeg. Other than that, I have slugged all day.

rigs, I guess I have to clean my own bathroom, then?

I really hate where I live and I can’t wait until I can leave.

Death Chicken is in the oven in my home too! And boy does it smell delicious!!

Okay, I went to get blood work done this morning and also gave in the cup; the doctor’s office called and wants me to come in because I had some “abnormal” results. :frowning: My A1C was 6.1; my fasting blood sugar was 116. There was some sort of abnormality in the urinalysis as well, I’m not sure what. Gah. It’s looking like I’ve got diabetes; that’s probably what’s off in the urine as well, a diabetes indicator. Wednesday morning I go for my mammogram and Thursday morning, I go to my primary care doctor about the blood work results. To say I am -not- looking forward to this mess is a gross understatement, unfortunately. Any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated!

:frowning:

I have to laugh.

As many of you are aware, I made the death chicken on Saturday night and it was huuuuuuuge success. I used thighs, not breasts.

Sunday (yesterday), my husband asked me to make it again, so I did. You see, we did not have left overs from the previous night because we took some to our friend and his son, plus my daughter ate the final thigh.

I made it last night using more thighs than I did the first night. I had four left in the pan, along with the rice. Hubby plans on cleaning that up today when he gets home. (That’s if he beats my son and daughter to it!) He then asked me to make it AGAIN tonight. I told him he’d have to settle for something different tonight.

I hate cleaning the bathrooms. It’s one of my least favorite chores, along with cleaning blinds. Oh hell, lets face it, I do not really like any kind of housework. I blame that on my mother, who could spot a teensy, tiny speck of dust from fifty feet away and make me clean my whole room again in order to make sure I got it. I spent my whole childhood scrubbing and weeding. There was no fun until chores were done, even if the chores took all day.

ETA: Hang in there Herbs. I hope all goes well and things are as bad as you think they may be. You too, Spaz! Are there issues with CR again?

Are there seriously 4 of us cooking Death Chicken tonight?

[Navin Johnson]The death chicken is liked! I’m somebody![/NJ]

that cracks me up, but makes me lose my capital letters.

Hey, Spice Girl–hard luck on those results. Let us know how it goes.

Tarragon, I meant to say NOT as bad. The edit window time ran out on me.
