A belated MMP

Yes, hang in there, Herbs – don’t start assuming all kinds of stuff is wrong with you until you know for sure it is. Doctors can be real alarmists with those phone calls; they scare a lot of people quite unnecessarily. Our doctor in New Orleans was the worst that way; she had me thinking I had all kinds of awful diseases, including ovarian cancer, with her alarming phone calls.

Our new toy arrived – we got a TiFaux from Verizon that works with our FIOS service, and Papa Tigs is getting it all set up. When it’s up and running, if I want to watch a show and have pause/rewind powers on live TV just like he will in there with the actual remote, I can just set the show to record and then watch it from the recording right here in my office. Yay! A multi-room DVR – I can see this one is going to be a LOT of fun! Of course, he unhooked the old TiVo before making sure we’d actually watched everything on it. Grr…so I guess I’ll just not worry about the shows he had on there that I was going to catch up on. Grr…

Out with the old in with the new BioTigs.

{{{Herbs}}} here’s hopin’ everything is ok. If it does turn out to be diabetes, at least it seems to be a whole lot easier to manage these days. Hang in there!

Tatersson said it… death chicken is <snerk> to die for! <snerk> That is some seriously good stuff! Plus I got to have fun with it. Ol’ y’all know who was just scarfin’ it down, carryin’ on about it. Then he asked me what it’s called. I told him. Why is it called that he asked. I told him about it bein’ a casserole for the dead. He looked at me and asked me if I had really just fed him funeral food. Oh he’s decided to rechristen it as “Dang Good Chicken.” He can call that if he wants. To me it is and will always be Death Chicken.

I may make it soon for brunch Sunday at church. First, it’s good so it’ll be a hit. Second, I’ll get to watch him turn green when I tell people it’s Death Chicken. I mean, a twofer! Can it get much better than that!

I cleaned my bathroom last night. The guest room is still ok cause I cleaned it up after all the company left last time and it hasn’t been used. It is therefore still sanitary. I hate cleanin’ too. I do it cause I don’t want to live in filth and squalor but that does not mean I have to like it.

I am pleased inordinantly (I dunno how to spell it) that you all like my death chicken. It’s from a wonderful crazy book by Jill Conner Brown entitled, God Save the Sweet Potato Queens–all her queen books are great. Her description of the recipe is quite amusing as well. There are more recipes in there, but DC has been the best of the bunch, IMO.

Our was quite good–I added a bit more nutmeg than usual, and it made it better. I’m thinking of trying it in a crockpot this winter, and I’m also thinking of once it comes out of the oven, sprinkling bleu cheese crumbles over the top–what do you all think? God knows it ain’t low cal to start with.
Rebo–I keep meaning to post that I think that hutch etc will go quickly–it’s in real good shape and is a nice color.

I have another bathroom to clean. Why, god, why?

Say, has anyone seen chaoticbear? Last post I saw from him mentioned going to New Orleans for Southern Decadence and I never heard anything from him again. I can’t search right now to see if he’s visited the dope or not (some weird ass security token missing error message).

Beans I’m sure ol’ donkeybear is fine. I’m guessin’ the combo of starting school and work has kept him busier than a one-armed paperhanger with a case of the hives.

rigs bleu cheese crumbles… intriguing… it might seem uppity at a post-funeral lunch but would be seen as all class at a dinner party.

hi
exhausted

today was interesting to say the least. They’d declared, about 4 months ago, that they were doing away with staggered shifts - everyone’s hours are now 8:30 to 5:00 with half hour lunch. Doesn’t affect me except that I get to leave a ahlf hour early (and fight rush hour traffic - blech) but everyone else (most of whom commute in from at least 20 miles east) had been starting at either 7:30 or 8:00 which meant they avoided most of the city bound rush hour dreck. An 8:30 start time means they get to sit in the middle of it. There were a lot of grumbly blurfs this morning. I was highly amused (but I kept it to myself). Then the mad dash at 5:00pm was humor inducing as well. Unfortunately, leaving at 5:00 instead of 5:30 means I too get to sit and crawl and sit and crawl with impatient idiots 6 cars back from the light honking loud enough to wake the dead. I hate rush hour. you will probably hear this from me frequently over the next several weeks until I get used to it.

I’m a little out of it now (which explains the rambling) because I took my meds early because I slept fitfully last night, altho I did have a sexy dream involving Alton Brown (probably because his new show was the lsts thing I watched before turning the TV off). He kisses nice. Shame on me.

The reply function is acting all wonky :frowning:

I am going to sleep.

Sometime when I’m not too tired from work I must make Death Chicken. It sounds delish. But not tonight. yawn

Hiya.
I guess I’m back.

: looks puzzled :

Hi!!!

Thanks on the compliments on the hutch! Anybody want to buy it?

Ok, re: Death Chicken. The flavors sound really yummy, but isn’t it kinda greasy with the raw bacon in the bottom? I read the ingredients to Mr Rebo and that’s what he said, and I kinda thought that, too. So Mumpers, tell me!
I’m making a baked ham with mollases/mustard glaze, baked sweet NOTs and a pot of pinto beans. We’ll have beans later in the week with tacos, too. If’n I’da had some okra in the house, we woulda had fried okra, too. Gotta have your green vegetable! But I didn’t think of it until too late.

Ok - time to serve! Later, gaterz…
ETA: MEEKS!!! Welcome back!

This is too funny- I think it was during Amnesia Weekend I posted that I had an interesting dream about Alton Brown…

He’s one sexy scruffied-faced geeky guy…

ETA: Annnnd Alton gets me first on page 2!

::giggling:: I really WANTED to make Death Chicken, but didn’t get all the ingredients. I’m missing: bacon, chicken and soup. At least I have nutmeg. Maybe tomorrow?

Sorry things are crummy at home, Spaz. Whap CR upside the head for us. Is it one more semester or one more year that you’re stuck there? Any chance of finishing up from afar?

How are things going today, Pie?

They’ve thought about doing that where I work, rosie. That would mean (just for my agency) a couple thousand people coming and going at the same time. So far, we still have staggered hours.

Sorry to hear your news, tarra. I know a couple of people who have been able to manage their way back out of diabetes by improving their eating and exercise habits, so even if that’s the diagnosis, you might be able to do something about it (your numbers don’t sound so out of whack that you couldn’t, IIRC). And, as others have said, it may be nothing, just overcautiousness on the doc’s part. Keep us updated.

::jumps up and down and waves hi to Meeks:: Yes, we’re now in free-posting world, but we didn’t rearrange the furniture or anything…

I also liked your hutch A LOT, Rebo. Sadly, it’s too big for my dining room and the shipping to Columbus might make it a bit too expensive for me. As for the dishes… I know what you mean. I currently have my Mom’s dishes. I like them quite well (thankfully), but I sometimes think I’d like to get some that were just mine. So far I’ve done that with glasses and mugs and such. I also have some stainless steel tableware that she originally bought. I really like that and would like to get more. It’s solid, not too big and not too small, not odd shaped, not too fancy and not too plain. Every time I look at the prices from Replacements, I think…“at least I’ve got a pretty complete set already.”

Hope the work thing went well, LiLi. Be grateful it’s not 40 hours/week.

Glad the walk was so successful, Muppet. You still have to tell us about it, even if you didn’t do the OP. How many people walked? Is this something that everyone does together or are there people all over Canada participating separately. I’d never heard of such a long walk. Charity walks around here are usually 10km at most.

Long day. Tired. New boss annoying. Didn’t get nearly enough done today. Hope old boss is replaced very quickly.

Guess I should consider what I’m actually having for dinner. I’ve only had some chocolate. I’m guessing taquitos (microwaved) or quesadillas.

Back later…

GT

meeks is back! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!

Rebo it is not too greasy. Matter of fact not really greasy at all. Plus the bacon makes the rice taste extra special good.

You had to mention okra. I’ve got some in the freezer. I “put up” some like a good southerner should. I want some fried okra now. Hmmm… wonder if I can get hold of some green tomato and banana pepper…

Yay, Meeks is back! Sorry I didn’t pass your message along that you’d emailed me, Meeks; it arrived while I was so sick I was barely checking mail and not getting online at all, and by the time I got well enough, you’d already let someone else know. I just didn’t want you to think I was ignoring you!

Papa Tigs spent an hour hooking up the TiFaux, including a call to tech support because the TV didn’t have a particular kind of input, and then Mr. “I’ve worked with all this kind of stuff for 40 years, I know everything” discovered he was getting nothing but snow on the screen. After yet another call to tech support, followed by going through 25-step process with the tech, we finally learned what his problem was: He needed to push the A/V input button on the remote! Hee! One button push and there was the TV signal, all clear and pretty and everything! Hee hee hee! He is feeling seriously embarrassed about now, as he should be; heck, he was even forced to <gasp> read the manual at one point, heaven forbid! Hee!

It’s not really greasy at all. The bacon bakes. I do trim some of the fat, but let’s not get crazy or anything, kids.
I need to go do some stuff around the house. Then again–it’s cozy in here.

hello to all who have come back [del]from the dead[/del] to this fine place.

YAWN Melatonin kickin’ in… time to lie upon the bed and let teevee lull me to sleep.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

MEEKS!!! : Snoopy dance :

Herbs, hang in there.

: tucks rosie ingrope :

Soapy, I can do geeky and scruffied-faced, will 2 ouf of 3 do?

<sigh> I posted a pic in the SFW pic thread and nobody said anything… You can tell me, I trust you guys: I’m a crone who scares small children aren’t I. I should invest in paper bags and shun public places.

I knew it. <contemplates ending it all, alone and unloved in a dark closet where my body won’t be found for weeks and weeks and weeks until the stench is so bad that the CDC and HazMat is called in and then, yes, THEN shall people remember and go in awe of me and I will be famous and powerful and legend! YES!>

No worries, am to see the doctor tomorrow…

Actually, Rebo, it’s not greasy. Since the bacon is sitting on the bottom of the pan, it actually crisps up on the bottom.

Finally home! Traffic was a royal bitch today. Everyone is taking the backroads (the route I take on the way home) to avoid the Western Washington Fair traffic on Hwy 512. I left my office 4:30 today and didn’t get home until 5:35. My commute is 17 miles. Over an hour to go 17 lousy miles is ridiculous.

Meeks! I’m so glad to see you here again!

Well, I suppose I better figure out what we’re having for dinner.

ETA: Rigs, I think your picture is lovely.

Long day today. I still feel wiped out from this weekend, which is from Friday’s really long day. But I survived all day at work. My co-worker is going to be at a conference the rest of the week, so she was trying to get everything finished before she leaves tomorrow. At least next week’s events were canceled, so she doesn’t have to worry about those.

I had the professional organizer come tonight. We did a walk through and she’s going to send me an estimate by Wednesday. I almost chickened out and canceled, but I’m glad I didn’t. She is very pleasant and reassuring and I will definitely be able to work with her.
