A belated MMP

But it’s Campbells Cream of Chicken Mushroom soup.

Wow- I only missed a day and I’m overwhelmed!

I actually broke down and made this chicken recipe, though I rarely make dishes using cream of soup–

But everyone raving about it made me think again… It’s in the oven know and will be ready in about an hour.

Will report back!

Hey LiLi, which grocery store has pork roast on sale? I just used up the last of my chops, and I’d really really like to replenish my stock (especially if it’s cheap).

meeks, if it makes you feel any better, my Thanksgiving will be super awkward too. I’m still not sure if I want to tell my mom that my dad has decided to get remarried that weekend… it’s already one of the hardest holidays for her without throwing in that extra-special bit of fun. We can start up a support group, if you like.

On that note, I’m getting the hell outta here before someone realises I’m still at my desk and hands me some more work to do. Only one hour of OT today… not bad, all things considered.

Gah–now I have to have a TON of blood tests and a bone density scan. I’m old. :frowning:

And crabby.
I have a list of things I had forgotten about. Mostly it’s little stuff, which is good, but I still have to do it.

If any of you have small children or had small children, read *Stop Dressing Your Six Year Old Like a Skank *by Celia Rivenbark. Too funny! It’s a few years old, but well worth a perusal. She’s sort of a post 9/11 Erma Bombeck.

Dinner consumed.

Death Chicken (the name of which was NOT told to the children. lest my very sensitive daughter ends up sleeping with me tonight…) was very popular!

Thanks for the recipe!!

I’ve been a Getting Things Done cat all day today. Hopefully this will extend to getting another page done on the Thesis project.

My Reference Work boss just looked over my shoulder while I was typing. He says he loves this site. Hope he didn’t see my screenname.

In bad news, the sister of my Archiving Work boss died this afternoon. She (the boss) was out all last week and came back yesterday only to rush back up to her sister’s house last night.

It’s boneless blade beef pot roast, and it’s at Valu-Mart for $1.99/lb.
I need pot roast. I think I’ll pick it up tomorrow, though, and do it for dinner on Thursday.

We’re having veggie lasagna tonight. It contains veggies. I don’t think I’ve really eaten veggies in a couple of days. Bad me.

Well, I didn’t clean, but I did go watch hockey practice. Don’t give me that look, Mr. Bear, I slack as hard as I work.

Good luck with the tests, rigs.

Sorry about the family stuff, meeks.

<snickers>

Lunch! no time no see!

MamaTigs, I still haven’t transfered my bookmarks, my old PC isn’t talking to its own USB ports.

You’re a good mom, Aleq.

Sorry for all the bad family stuff meeks. Families. We gots 'em whether we wants 'em or not. Whachu gonna do?

doggio I expect a report of a clean doghouse tomorrow, young man. Don’t give me that look! :stuck_out_tongue: And shame on you for snickerin’ at a graduate honor like Magna <snerk> Cum <snerk> Laude!

rigs the older we get the more tests doctors want to do on us. It’s like we turn into their biology projects or sump’n.

LiLi if it weren’t for the fact that Canada is too far away to make it cost effective, I’d be stockin’ up on some pot roasts. Good price!

Spaz sorry about your boss’s sister. I did the same thing she (boss) did when dad died. I left to come home to get some clothes, and go into work that next day since I hadn’t been in all week. I figured it’d be fine and I could just go back on Saturday. I was home one night. Got a call early in the morning and had to run around packing (I just knew that was gonna be it so I packed the funeral suit and all). All the way back up to Etlanner (he was in Emory University Hospital) I just knew my cellphone was gonna ring any minute and I’d be told he died before I got back. As it was he died the next day. When my younger brother died, I got the call at work, rushed home and packed, then took off. I ended up having to go buy stuff the next day because in the rush I didn’t pack several things I needed like underwear, socks, a warm jacket, toiletries… that was one time I was thankful for Wally*World.

Wow that got rambly didn’t it!

Whew - finally caught up and able to post. The veggie lasagna was OK, but I like it better with meat.

I’m exhausted. Last night I kept dreaming that it was time to wake up, and I kept waking up. That doth well and truly suck!!!

I’ve got a load of jeans in the dryer. I did the dishes.

Hey - years ago, there was a screensaver that featured a guy on a lawnmower running over kittens. The same package featured a voyeur-like screensaver with various lit apartment windows at night and interesting things going on in the windows. Does anyone here recall what it was called and who made it?? I’ve tried Googling with no success.

That’s all I’ve got. I need ice cream.

FCM, Himself says it sounds like one of the Berkeley’s After Dark add on packages, try Googling that to see if it rings a bell.

Cool, guess I’m officially a Great Mommysup[/sup]! I will definitely post pics of the big event–it should be beautiful, the park is lovely and seems like the weather’s going to hold and continue stellar. Hooray! You really take your chances on outdoor weddings in Oregon in September…

Oh, I wrote another DailyKos blog, this one about a truly frightening report and video by a UC Santa Barbara computer security team showing just how easy it is to hack into and falsify results on a Sequoia Systems voting machine. It boggles my mind that this ISN’T front page/lead story/town crier news all over the country–it’s more likely to garner an eyeroll and a handwave for being a tinfoil hat person. Seriously, if the general population knew even ten percent of what I know about hacking computer systems they’d be shitting their pants every time they did a Google search–and I don’t know a pinch compared to Himself. It’s a scary world out there, and the reason more people aren’t getting fucked with is that there’s just too huge a volume of available systems for the black hats to bother with–it’s the purloined letter method, writ large.

Sympathetic noogies to Meeks…

I had a blueberry/razzberry/nectarine smoothie, it was soooooo gooooood!

Hey **taxi–**what did your risotto smell like? d&r… :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s what it was, Smarty. But apparently they fizzled away, and the screensaver won’t work on XP. Oh well…

Hugs to Rigs and Meeks

Alone again tonight… my husband is still overseas.

I think I’ll set up the crockpot with dinner tonight and stick it in the fridge for tomorrow. Will make the morning less hectic. Maybe boil off some eggs for little girl’s lunch, too.

Or maybe just watch House re-runs.

If anybody just heard squeeing from the general direction of Idaho it’s because my neighbor just came over to show off a kitten! A 13-day-old kitten! He’s the only survivor of a litter that was abandoned by the mother, and she’s had him since he was six days old. I need to get some camera batteries quick! He’s this little grey guy and he has these itty bitty paws and itty bitty claws and he just opened his eyes at about 3 AM…awwwwwwwwww!

So far he’s doing really well, he’s grown a couple of inches in length and feels pretty solid for such a little critter. And he may be a she but nobody’s sure yet. Soooo cuuuuuuute…

Well…I started reading shortly after 7, I think, discovered some posts I’d missed from yesterday…yes, I’d love some Indian CDs after you’re done with 'em, Mama Tigs…read enough references to Death Chicken that I was forced to walk (rapidly) to the grocery store and back for missing ingredients, put it together and throw it in the oven. It’s been in the oven for just over 1/2 an hour; can’t quite smell it yet. I’ll probably only get to try a couple of bites tonight, but hey…I can take it in for lunch and awe the world.

So, now I’ve read through everything else and have a few comments, I think.

Hi An Gadaí! Why does work stink?

I was wondering where you’d been, SO. Sounds busy and tiring.

Today’s trout slap goes to Mr. Gumdrop.

Sounds like a fun time, taxi. Do you have a link to the chapatti recipe?

Sorry about your boss’s sister, Spaz and about the bad family stuff meeks (and Muppet, too, of course).

Love the old equipment stories, meeks. Made me giggle. And The Color Purple and To Kill a Mockingbird are two of my all-time favorites. Haven’t read either of them in quite some time.

I really liked your pics, rigs; the ones in the pic thread as well as the ones you linked to here (I clicked through your photostream, so I don’t remember what you actually linked…).

doggio can you attach your bookmark file to an e-mail to yourself? I transfer stuff like that pretty often (it’s less work than using a memory stick).

Teacher conversation sounds annoying, rigs. (Could be I’m grumpy, too, though.) Hopefully she’s OK in person. I’d call her on her “pass” philosophy. She sounds like employers who give you sick leave then penalize you for using it. (Why yes, there IS a difference between USE and ABUSE.:rolleyes: ) Don’t get me started. I hardly use sick leave, but I’ve had emplyees who’ve had to use more than average and…some of the hoops we have to jump through together… Did I mention:

Weird dream last night. I woke up because of a thunderstorm at 3:30 or so and couldn’t fall asleep till 5:00. My alarm was set to go off at 6 or so.

Anyhoo, I fell asleep and started to dream that I was climbing rickety stairs up to the second floor of a large, kind of industrial, building. Did whatever I was supposed to do there and decided to leave the back way. Which went from looking much more stable to being a large conveyor belt leading to…dunno…doom of some sort.

So, all of a sudden, there I was, trying to get off the conveyor belt without meeting an untimely end. And, I’m coaching myself: “C’mon, GT, wake up! You’re having a dream! You need to wake up now!!!” It took what felt like a few minutes, but I woke up and it seemed clear at the time why I had had that dream. Now I think part of it was because I watched What’s Up Doc? and must have the scene in mind where Eunice thinks she’s going to Mr. Larrabee’s party and instead winds up at the house where the thieves/mob types are trying to understand why they don’t have the stolen jewels. (If you haven’t seen this a movie, you should; it’s a hoot. It’s a screwball comedy from the early seventies with a combination of actors that’s totally unexpected but excellent.)

So…now I’m waiting for Death Chicken and wandering around the internet and…maybe I’ll watch another movie. Someone upthread mentioned Ironman…I need to get around to watching that one, too.

OK…I think I’ve blathered along more than necessary. Hope some of it makes sense. Tired.

Hugs to all I missed (I know I had several more comments…)

And…on preview: yay for kitties!!!

GT

It’s almost bedtime here. I did manage to pay my bills and I even went to water aerobics today!

When I got home I found out that the Bubster got stung on one of his paws, but he seems to be ok now.

Ok, I’m tired. Bye!

pot roast in the crock-pot, in the fridge, ready for tommorow.
Egg boiling for kids lunch.
House is being watched.

gt and I both made* le poulet de la morte* today.

Yeah for getting bills paid… boo for stung paws.

And yeah for new kitties!!!

Yay! Cheap pot roast! I initially read it as pork roast, which says something about how badly work can fry my brain some days… but pot roast is darn good eats too and it so happens that I don’t have any of that kicking around in the freezer either. Valu-Mart has been added on to tomorrow’s after-work itinerary.

snowbunny, my first kitteh was a long-haired silver boy that was so little when I first got him that he’d fit in the palm of my hand (he was part of a litter born to my landlady’s cat… she gave me my pick). I’ve had a terrible soft spot for little itty bitty grey kittehs ever since. Now make with the pix, dammit!

Spaz, sorry to hear about your boss.

Death Chicken is teh yum.

That is all.

OK, wait. . . it’s doing it again.

If I click on anyone’s username in this thread, there’s no drop-down menu.

When I click on anyone’s username in another random thread, the drop-down menu works.

Last week, I bought the argument that the thread was started before amnesia weekend or right after or something like that. But what’s up now?

Oh and hi everyone.
