A Birthday to Remember… The MMP!

Happy SoapyDay!!!

We’re home from our picnic - all but 2 showed up, and it was a nice time. The weather was gorgeous and the drive wasn’t too horrid, altho it was a bit more crowded on the road coming home. It’s time to chill… Boating tomorrow.

I’ve got a reallly yum recipe to share - one of the attendees brought it:

Oriental Cole Slaw

1 Napa cabbage
3 to 5 scallions
2 pkgs Raman noodles, broken (discard seasoning packets)
1/2 cup sesame seeds
1/2 cup cashew halves (or almonds, or pistachios)

Chop cabbage & scallions and mix together. Refrigerate 2 hours. Saute seeds & cashews in 4Tbsp. butter. Toss with broken noodles. Drain. Mix with cabbage just before serving.

Dressing

1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1/2 cup sugar (I’m thinking I’d only use 1/4 cup - it was pretty sweet)
2 Tbsp soy sauce

Mix well. Dress cabbage with mixture immediately before serving.

This is VERY yum!! We had it with almonds because the person who brought it doesn’t like cashews. She said she’s had it with pistachios. Anyway, *very *yum!!

Rigs
Please speek more of this espresso frosting
Drove home through a 20 mile monsoon, checked the radar and found nothing.
More red/brown storms in a line to our west, but they should die out by the time they get here. We are just under 80, Boston was 60 and in a fog bank when we left.

Got to love New England weather!

I’m doing steak and sallit for dinner tonight. I’m having my pre-dinner martini. Gordie is 30 seconds away from an asskicking by Nelly. The heat index hit 117 at noon today.

Glad you had a good time, FCM. Salad sounds good.

Rigs, I read that as Donner party. Hope the drugs kick in quick.

Yaya for weekends, swampy! Deli sandwiches sound like a good idea.

gt, hope you find the clunking in your car.

rosie, I think “Michael Jordan” when I see MJ. I’m tired of Wacko Jacko coverage, too.

Kosh, I’d like espresso frosting, but much like chocolate covered espresso beans, would lead to a complete lack of sleep for several days.

I just had the best birthday! I went to a PBS fundraiser with Jacques Pepin that was a celebration of Julia Child’s life. It was an outdoor food and wine tasting. It stormed to two hours- rain, hail, thunder etc. We were trapped under a tent for about an hour- and I was nose to nose with Jacques Pepin! He was so charming and chatty. He told us Julia Child stories and gave me birthday hug.

Thanks for the all happy birthday’s!

Added the slaw to the blog. We have 3 variations on it in there. They’re all similar, but not exactly the same; I’ve numbered them.

Sorry about FCD’s Dad’s surgery. Sounds like he needs a different surgeon.

117 heat index, doggio? :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Sorted out some stuff that needed to be filed and walked through the street party in our neighborhood; got free popcorn, biscuits and lemonade.

Tired now… Gonna relax and fall asleep.

ETA: What a cool birthday, Soapy!!! ::is envious::

Soapy [del]nosy[/del] inquirin’ Mumpers (ok, the female and boys who like boys ones) want to know… is he as sexy up close and personal as he is on teevee? Do you think he would have minded if it were me up close and groped him?

Why, yes, I have been drinkin’. Why do you ask? :stuck_out_tongue:

MOOOOOOM I have that slaw recipe. I’ve had it with cashews, pistachios, almonds and pecans. They all work well. It is teh num!

doggio dang! That’s even hotter than south Jawja.

rigs what vorlon said. We need espresso frosting recipe pronto! HEE! If you misplace two letters pronto becomes pornto. I just noticed that.

Why, yes, I have been drinkin’. Why do you ask? :stuck_out_tongue:

He was adorable!!! Flaunting his French accent and cute eyes… We were drinking alot and he rubbed my back while waiting to take a photo… sigh

I still couldn’t make the stoopid damn high tech printer do exactly what I wanted

And it wasn’t “Load letter” doggio :stuck_out_tongue:

Hubby has to go for a CT scan on Monday make sure nothing else is wrong other than the sinus infection in the mastoid sinus (think that is what the doc said)

Went to see The Hangover aka Very Bad Trip here in France last night and I laughed all the way through - after the credits went up the entire theatre burst into applause!

Happy Sunday everyone!

This is going to be a crabby day, I fear. I didn’t fall asleep till after midnight, and I was up before 5. Tried to go back to bed, but no luck. So I’m up. grrrrrrrrr. But it is nice and cool and I’ve got the windows open for a little while, so there’s that.

We need to get some flea killer for the carpets - **FCD **is being eaten alive. Guess I’m not as sweet as he is, because they don’t jump on me. Anyway, that’s one of the plans for today. With luck, shampooing the carpets this week will help, too.

Daughter’s cat is on The List. The kids left a laundry basket full of clean towels sitting in the kitchen. The idiot cat used it as a litter box, ignoring the clean box in the bathroom. So I had to pick out the dessicated turds and re-wash the load. It’s in the dryer now, the cat box is in the kitchen, and the bedroom and bathroom are closed off the the evil feline. I don’t need to spend my days sniffing around for kitty poo. Stoopit cat. At least when I showed her the new box location, she climbed in.

Can *NOT *believe June is just about gone - 2009 is speeding by way too fast…

I woke up about a million times, but fell asleep again quickly each time. So…I guess I got enough sleep. In any event, I’m up!

Off to find caffeine.

Happy Sunday everyone!

GT

Morning. I’m caffeinated, and off to the DOGPARK! before it gets too hot, then off to Mass. Happy Sunday!

Good morning all. Up and caffeinating, getting ready to go to the farmer’s market. I hope to get some local fresh fruits and veggies!

Belated birthday greetings to Soapy! Fingers crossed and good thoughts going out towards MrMmmms and esp. to FCD’s Dad. Hope they’ll be able to actually do his surgery and can’t believe they didn’t listen, geesh.

It’s a cool morning here too, so far. Should be nice for the market… I’ma see if I can attract a butterfly today even though I’m not wearing my butterfly t-shirt today. Yes, I have a dark green t-shirt that apparently made the butterfly think I was a (big) bush, cause one landed on me several times!

Hey folks! Today is DH bday… yup that’s right- right after mine. Time to switch gears and celebrate his bday!

Howdy Y’all! I’m all caffienated and cleaned up but not goin’ to church. That’s right. I am heathenatin’ today. I slept in until eight o’ clock. Unheard of! Anywho, I have decided upon a day of nuttin’.

Happy Birthday DH! If he posted he’d get sung to.

Herbs maybe it’s not the shirt. Maybe the butterfly has a crush on you.

MOOOOOOM the cat was just showin’ ‘em who’s boss and teachin’ ‘em a lesson for goin’ off and leavin’ her all alone.

swampy, Miss Cleo may well be trying to make a point, but I’m the one who has to deal with it, so she’s confined to the non-sleeping portion of the apartment. Stoopit cat.

It’s too late for breakfast, so we’re going to Famous Dave’s for lunch. Or maybe some place else - waiting for *someone *to make up his mind… Who knows what the rest of the day may hold.

Good mornin’ everyone. I slept in until about 8:30 this morning. Of course, I didn’t go to bed until about 1:30 a.m., so I guess I needed it.

FCM, fingers are crossed for FCD, and someone needs to slap FiL’s surgeon with a big clue by four.

What flea product did you use for the dogs and cats?

Happy Birthday to SoapyHusband!

The espresso frosting sounds intriguing. Please share it, rigsy dearest.

I weeded for hours yesterday. I got a very large portion of it done. However, by the time I quit for the day, my left hand was practically a claw. I’ve been having issues for some months with it, the hand I mean. I hope it’s not CT, or worse arthritis. Everyone in my family gets arthritis.

Hmm, off to read the news I think.

Wow, I just read that Billy Mays died. He was only fifty years old. I couldn’t stand his commercials, but how sad for his wife. She found him in their home this morning.

**Taters **- it’s a bad year to be 50 - I need to warn my brother in law…

And we’re using Frontline Plus on the critters. We got some spray for the carpets, and I figure when I shampoo, it’ll de-flea further. Hope I don’t have to call an exterminator. Stoopit fleas.

We went to Famous Dave’s, and even tho I got a lunch platter and hadn’t had breakfast, I couldn’t finish it. So I guess I have tomorrow’s lunch in the fridge.

I just finished a major vacuuming, including moving some furniture. What a mess! And after I empty the dining room, I’ll vacuum again before runing the shampooer in the morning. Doesn’t sound like I know how to vacation, does it?

Daughter’s evil cat has pooped in her cat box - just in case you were wondering…

I think I’ll assume the knit position.

Shampooing and steamcleaning will definitely help with the flea problem. If Frontline works like advantage, those fleas will be sterilized so they can’t reproduce. They become poisoned and die before reproducing.

We just ate an early lunch at Sonic. I am STUFFED. Waaay too much food.

I’ll be working it off in the yard, though. Have to finish the weeding today. The sun can’t make up it’s mind. It’s playing peek-a-boo with the clouds today.

I’m making an ice cream pie for hubby’s bday:

Chocolate wafer pie crust (1.5 cup cookie crumbs mixed with 6 tbls melted buter)
Baked 350F 10-12 minutes
Cool
Freeze 20 minutes

Soften ice cream (I’m using vanilla fudge)

Fill pie pan half way with ice cream. Sprinkle with caramel topping and cookie crumbs.
Finish filling pie with ice cream
Drizzle with caramel topping.
Freeze 1 hour and top with fresh whipped cream.
