A Brief History of Ratdom - AKA the MMP

I have not yet had the privilege of hearing the “Hello” trucks. I am hoping against hope that we don’t get them.

Welcome home, rosie! Sorry it’s so scary. Just stay put as much as you can (easy for me to say!) and Thursday will be here before you know it.

I’m going out to plant stuff and will be back after a while.

::We now return to today’s TMI programming.::

I’m home from work, and my back is killing me. At least I am off tomorrow.

Hold on , Rosie!

gotti, our local church foo bank uses Paradox. I love the 16 color display.

Speaking of TMI, was there ball biting, BioTigs?

The naan pizza is good, but I can make it with some butter chicken sauce, diced chicken, and mozzarella. I’d make it youself with pita.
The way through the sickness so far (it’s mild) seems to be eating if I feel sick. It seems to be nausea triggered by hunger. I’m buying crackers tomorrow, and investing in white rice and toast.

I have sad news. Not surprising news, but I’d like prayers/good vibes/good thoughts. We just found out that my BIL and his wife have split up. It’s somehow surprising and unsurprising at the same time. I didn’t think it would happen so soon, and I’m very sorry that it’s happened at all. We’re not sure how serious a break it is, but she’s moved out. Yes, this is the sister-in-law whom I intensely dislike- nevertheless I didn’t want their marriage to end. It’s only been a year, and my BIL is depressive and has poor self-esteem anyway. We’re really worried.

We’re off to cuddle and thank each other for our very good marriage.

I’m sorry you had a stressful time getting home. At my ambo company, we try to make trips like your as easy as possible. Did they not have a stair chair to get you up the stairs? They should have; it would have been much easier.
At any rate, you’re home, in your own bed and covered in familiar cat hair.

Oh, and I have good news.
I was asking for good thoughts back in February and a few weeks ago when I took the written exam and the agility test to try to get into the county as a paid EMT.

I got a letter informing me that I’ve been selected for an interview in two weeks!
This is a big deal - getting an interview is the final step. About 1,200 people take the written exam, and of those who pass that, about 500 are selected to take the agility test. From what I’ve heard (the grapevine, the rumormill, outright lies and innuendo), they only interview about 150 people to fill two classes of about 25.

I’m very excited.

Way cool, BibKitty! Make sure to let us know how the interview goes.

So sorry to hear about SIL and BIL, LiLi.

Awake again…why? I have to get up early!

GT

Sorry you’re freaked being home alone, Rosie – hand in there, it’s going to get easier, promise! Just do what you can, and be good to yourself!

I’ve had a kind of useless day. I’ve been fighting off a headache all day – I think it’s due to weather changes – and so I lay down at about 3:30 to read and rest a few minutes and see if I could get my head feeling better. I woke up at 6:30. :smack: So now here it is 1:00 a.m. and I’m still WIDE awake. Oh well, at least it’s a nice cool night with a nice breeze, so I can get work done while I’m sitting here awake. And I’ve gone from the transcript with threats (only threats, fortunately) of ball-biting to a nice, easy, boring congressional hearing, so at least I can turn my brain off while I do it. It’s a lot easier to just turn the brain off and try not to pay attention to the actual words since it’s such a load of hooey!

I’m envious of Lapin Blanc – today at work she got to wash a 4-month-old baby Weimaraner named Thor. All together now: Awww! I should send a camera in with her to get pictures of some of her clientele! Apparently Thor is training to be a drug-sniffing dog, and is totally adorable, with sweet puppy breath and a habit of trying to lick noses. How come I don’t have a job where I get to play with puppies and get paid for it??

ETA cool news on the interview, BibKitty! Good thoughts headed your way – keep us posted!

SageRat, great OP. . .and I read it on the right day. . . just didn’t get back to commenting on it till now. Sad story, though. I’m glad the ending is getting better and I hope it continues to improve.
**
rosie**, glad you’re home. (ETA: I missed your last post.) I’m sorry you’re feeling freaked. I hope you’re feeling lots better soon.

Mork, that President’s Choice bento box looks yummy! I wonder if they sell it in the U.S. Although I’m a vegan, it still looks yummy.

So after yesterday afternoon’s unscheduled nap, and the incident with Shadow and the birdy (yes, I did find and dispose of the birdy body without having to wait for the smell to tell me where it was), I have made it into work today.

The contents of my inbox suggests that most people didn’t expect me to be here. Perhaps I should go home again.

RosiePosie, I hope home looks like a better place today and I’m sure Smokey is more than pleased to see you.

I am up and caffeinating. I’ll be taking Maggie to the vet for her surgery in a bit. She’s had to do the no food or water routine since last night, and she ain’t happy.

Congrats Bibcat!!

Hope everything goes well with Maggie’s surgery.

So, Lapin Blanc is having fun in her new job? Did she get the Borders job as well?

Hope things are looking better today, rosie.

Which reminds me…where’s Drae been lately?

Work happens early today and will last a while due to out-of-town guests. We’re having dinner together (which means they’re people I like, at least).

Happy Wednesday!

GT

Good Mornin’ Y’all!!!

BioRosie hang in there! I can only imagine how scary it is right now, but you’ll make it! You got all kinds of cool kid vibes goin’ for ya.

LiLi sorry about the breakup. Here’s hopin’ they figure out what they need to do.

doggio Maggie is in my thoughts and prayers. I trust you have plenty of cookies on hand with which to treat her afterwards.

Today is yard work day. I’m mowin’, edgin’ and trimmin’ four yards. Temps are pretty mild here (well, mid 80s is mild for here right now) so it shouldn’t be so bad. Yeehaa!

I can see I missed quite a bit this morning…

CanineServant, will be thinking of you and Maggie today. I’m sure she’ll have a list of demands after her surgery, top of the list will be you hand-feeding her treats!

BibKitty - yay! Good luck with the interview thingie!

I’ve just spent an hour [del]taunting[/del] helping students - I think I need to go and lie down now.

Welcome home, Rosie. Found out yesterday VWife will be joining the bionic club.

Good luck, Bibs. You’ll do fine.

Damned dog Loki got me up 5 times last night. Today will be hell zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Good morning, all!

I feel much better today. I went home and ate some chicken soup, and passed out for a couple of hours. Around dinner time I perked up a bit. I made some fish and okra&tomatoes and wild rice. And got a pot roast ready for crockin’ - it’s plugged in and crockin’ away. Yum.

Welcome home, RosiePosie! I’m sorry you’re freaked out. I hope that part goes away very quickly. We’re all pulling for ya!

We have that annoying “Hello” ice cream truck, too.

Well, I better get to looking like I’m working.

Happy Hump Day!

Good morning, friends!!

Hang in there, anyrose! Isn’t there someone you could call to just stop by for a few minutes? You’ll get through it; you’re resourceful! Singers of show tunes can do anything.

It’s raining here today, which is nice because 1. We need the rain and 2. It washes the pollen out of the air. So today is a Breathing Day. Tomorrow may be a Non-Breathing Day, which are a tad more difficult.

I’ll be thinking of sweet Maggie today, doggio. And LOUNE, is that a puppy under there or are ya just happy to see me?

swampy is always telling us what good food he makes. Well, I must tell you what fantastic spaghetti and meatballs I make. My family RAVES. The secret is don’t put in too many spices and do put in a little buillion granules. I use ground turkey and the results are fabu! I also have been using mazto meal instead of cracker crumbs after they went on sale for like 90% off after Passover! Also I use that Barilla multi-grain stuff, Angel Hair variety, so we’re all healthy-like. I’m such a mom that way.

Morning, and happy hump day!

It’s a wee bit chilly and rather wet out, but so far I’ve managed to avoid getting caught out in any rain. I brought my brolly just in case, though.

We’ve been dealing with a service center out in Newfoundland. He’s a pretty good mechanic – repairs compressors, small engines, whole lawnmowers and snowblowers and so on. He can even take an entire car engine apart and put it back together again. Not all that uncommon for a decent mechanic. But the fact that he’s completely blind is. I’m always amazed when I talk to him, because other than requiring requiring someone else there to read documents and gauges and such, he does his own work. Pretty damn impressive.

Bobbio - So what part of VWife is getting bionified? Will she be able to crush tennis balls with her bare hands or leap over razor wire fences?

D-Butler - Hope all goes well with Maggie’s surgery. You’ll hafta get her some kinda treat for when she comes out.

LiLi - Ooh, that reminds me, my work-local supermarket seems to have gotten in a butter chicken simmer sauce. I’m going to have to try that. I’ll have to make the chicken by itself at home though, without the sauce, 'cos MindWife is not even remotely a fan of the smell of curry, and butter chicken’s one of the more aromatic aromas. But that, a package of naan and some pre-cooked basmati and I’ll be set for some good lunches at work.

GT - You should definitely be thankful you haven’t yet been infiltrated by them. From the sound of things though, it’s only a matter of time. Have your earplugs and/or 12 gauge handy.

Rosie - You know, the plinkety-plink even of the electronic “bells” has always been uniquely identifiable as an ice cream truck from like a block or two away. Why’d they go and mess with it? Especially by changing it to something you want to nuke from orbit, just to be sure? Stoopit people messin’ with something that ain’t broke…

LOUNE - Are you aware of any ice cream truck driver fatalities that you are aware of? Because I’m thinking that this, too, is just a matter of time. Especially in Michigan.

The knees, Mork. The knees. Maybe a hip further into the future.

I have tried to talk her into a total body transplant, since hers is self-destructing.

Oh, dear. I just threw up.

I feel much better now.

So, the point of all this is being given a baby, and getting to keep it and everything, right? That will make everything worthwhile. Even if my fricking tastebuds have gone insane and I’m puking. tinyninjachef had better be cute.
Mindfield, if it’s the PC butter chicken sauce, it’s very good. The tikka masala is yummy, too.

Puking? Oh dear. Try not to puke, or you’ll puke all the time. That’s what a friend of mine says, regarding morning sickness. She had good luck eating baked potatoes. Me, I never puked, I just had hideous tummyaches throughout the entire pregnancy. Well, that’s not true. First trimester and last. And for fun, I had lots of indigestion in the last trimester too. Ate a lot of Tums. TMI Alert. Also some fun constipation but the GOOD part of about THAT is that you can eat all the prunes you want. I love prunes. But, unpregnant, more than one is fatal. Pregnant, I could eat a whole handfuls several times a day!

There’s another thread here about having a baby ‘late.’ I wrote the book on that one. In it, someone was reminding us all that chasing a kid learning to ride a 2-wheeler at the advanced age of 40 is a hassle. Hmpf. What if you were 40 when you had the kid to begin with? :stuck_out_tongue:
