I was up at 0400 for some reason. I spent some quiet time reading with a cup of nice French Market coffee with chicory. I set up some bread dough to proof overnight and just put that in the oven. It looks like a lovely day today. We need to get some groceries and random supplies. My plan is to roll out the off set smoke and smoke some pork tenderloin for Cuban sandwiches.
A great note: My older daughter was shut down with the rest of the hair stylists on St. Patrick’s Day. The Governor announced yesterday that the hair salons, barbershops and nail parlors are good to open, with some stipulations, on May 4th. She weathered the storm well and has sent the info to her client list.
The restaurants are also good to open. They are limited to 50% of their listed occupancy and all staff has to wear masks. It remains to be seen if the virus is under control but it is really nice to be at least heading towards a new normal.
I woke up about 45 minutes ago, and I’ve been out of bed for five minutes. Only, I went to bed at midnight so I slept less than six hours. Why can’t I sleep until the Sun comes up on weekends?
I made bone-on rib-eye steaks on the barbie for diner last night, and baked potatoes. Mrs. L.A. got out the Vieux Carré mix, so I had four of those. Plus a couple of glasses of wine.
We did go out for a spin in the MG yesterday. I filled up the tank with Premium for $2.20/gallon.
I used some silicone to adhere the caps to the 4X4s on Roxy’s tower. Then I cleared the wagonload o’stuff from FCD’s shop. I moved the dust collector and a work chair from my garden shed to the paint shed, along with some leftover lumber and a box of fluorescent tubes. I put my garden tools away and parked the wagon in the shed.
Then I swapped out towels in the bathroom and the kitchen. I wonder if this productivity is related to sunshine??
nettie, my sister made masks for her household (she’s right handy with a sewing machine) and had to modify the pattern for my BIL, who has quite a beak. She made some gussets around the nose and added extra fabric to accommodate it.
metal mouse, da Jungle’s slower time was one of the reasons that I ordered the new vacuum from Tar-jay. It got here Thursday afternoon and I’ll do what little assembly is needed today.
Speaking of new vacuums, it looks like my neighbors with the Mastiff and GSD (as well as a cat) just purchased the same exact model that I did, judging from the empty box waiting to go to the dumpster.
Up, caffeinating, sheets and towels in the wash and puppy crate cleaned. I’ll do KP and have a few minor projects lined up before playing in the studio and reading out on the patio.
My new neighbors have a domestic longhair cat, and an absolute unit of a Grand Pyrenees(and an even larger Great Dane there last night). I wonder what the use?
You realize the rest of us will be watching closely to see what’s happening on about May 25. As of last night, my county extended lockdown to May 17.
This is rapidly turning into the Year That Wasn’t. Several events that we were going to go to have been canceled, some were re-scheduled and then canceled, and there’s a bunch of events that we were thinking of going to as a Plan B, and those have been canceled.
Today’s poorly written headline: United requires facemasks and more airline news.
Why does United need more news?
Howdy. Got to Best Buy just in time for the rainstorm to arrive, so got my chargers and a wet shirt out of the deal. Also stopped at Wendy’s for some sustenance to bring home, which has now been consumed. It’s still raining and about 65F outside, so staying indoors will not be difficult today. A fair amount of traffic out, but less than half of what’s normal for a Saturday.
Hippy, here’s hoping that opening up the shops on 4 May works out for all.
gotti, just before this closed down the country, I was ready to make reservations for my vacation and commit several thousands of dollars. Now everything is on hold and I have no idea if I’m going anywhere this year.
doggio, I’m with flytrap, that’s a wee bit of a reach. Even if I count to three, I just can’t see it.
FCM, glad you got sunshine; no sign of it here in the foreseeable future.
I was awakened early by an itching nose. I mean bout to drive me crazy itching. A couple of allergy pills later it’s OK now. Nap will happen.
Our county has announced we shall stay closed through May. There is a checkpoint at the top of the island chain and no one can come here unless they own property or delivery trucks. We have managed to stay right around 72 infections (little testing) but neighboring Miami Dade has about 10K or more. There is no way we can open until that subsides a little. We do not have much hospital capacity here.
Hubs must be feeling good today as he is off somewhere irking. He promised me that he only irks outside and does not get around other people. My oldest brother called which is a rarity. Usually it’s me calling him. He is the same as we are, just trying to avoid the plague.
I was finally able to see that we are in fact eligible for a stimulus check but I can’t input the info for a direct deposit as we were owed 695$ but elected to push it over to this year. The site to input the info asked it you have received a refund or owed. It will not accept either so looks like we will have to wait for a paper check. It’s all good. We are not really needing the money. My half is getting put into savings.
I clicked on ‘REPLY’ and it took so long to come up I forgot what I was gonna say. :o
I bought a battery powered lawnmower yesterday. A Greenworks 20" 40v job. See, we have 2 little lawns over at the little house. They are so small that we originally took our manual reel mower over to deal with them. But it just couldn’t cut it.
So Wifey said we should get a cheap used mower to cut our grass. I said I’d rather spend the money to get a battery powered one 'cause the only place we have to store a gas powered mower is in the basement, and then the basement, and by extension the house, would smell of gasoline. 'Sides, I’m tired of messing with gasoline engines.
Anyway, While I was out picking up my prescriptions yesterday I stopped by BiMart to get some Spray N Wash and at the end of that aisle was a display of lawnmowers, one of which was a Greenworks. I’d done my research and knew that they were rated pretty well and the price was right, so I bought it. Also, while I was waiting for the nice young man to fetch a boxed unit from the back room, I turned around and was perusing their display of leftover Easter candy and spotted boxes of Moose Munch, which usually go for 3 to 4 $$, on sale for $1 each. 4 boxes fell into my cart. Well, I had to go get a cart, but then 4 boxes just fell in. quite of their own accord.
I remembered the Spray N Wash too.
I hear ya bout the ‘checkpoints’ Butters. We had a bunch of motorcyclists buzzing around our little town last week, not social distancing. Obviously not from around there. Playing loud music too. I feel like if you want to listen to music while riding your motorcycle you oughta put a decent muffler on the damn thing instead of blasting it out to the whole county.
A huge chunk of the tourist cash flow for my city is just not happening this year. WE have the College World Series every year and this year we had the Olympic Swim Trials and a piece of the College Basketball Tournament. None of that is happening.
Texas Roadhouse is making our supper - at least for **FCD **and me. The kids are on their own. We’ll leave in about 20 minutes to pick it up. That’ll be today’s big excitement.
The next time I’m at the store Baker I will see if there is any and pick some up for you if so. I have got to find some paper towels. We are down to two rolls. We have started to use dish towels more. Toilet paper is still good for maybe a month but I have t seen paper towels in over six weeks at the local store and toilet paper once. I’m not really wanting to travel anywhere but I may have to. It’s just ridiculous.
I have managed to do absolutely nothing today. Don’t think I’m gonna start now. Maybe a movie. I made a huge pot of soup yesterday so that shall be supper.
