Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 76 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. This mornin’ we shall deheathenate virtually. We shall N.O.L. upon broccoli beast ‘n rice. We had steak yestiddy, so apparently we are havin’ beast fest here at da cave. I shall virtually share the broccoli beast at the potluck.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
Speaking of bunnies, we have one that hangs out under our lower deck until I come outside with the dogs - then he/she bolts for the paint shed and hides under there. When it’s safe, I watch him/her grazing in the yard. I don’t think either of the pugs are fast enough to do any bunny hunting - heck, they’ve never noticed the bunny dash from deck to shed anyway.
Nettie:
It’s another dreary, overcast day with scattered t-storms promised. This has been one soggy April!!
Happy Sunday!!
Morning all. Last night I plugged in the Kindle and the Digiland tablet (the power cords is what I went to Best buy for) that have been sitting around for years and today I will try and get them operational. Ol’rat is trying to move (slowly) into the 21st century.
Up early, already solved the 3 Sudoku’s in the paper today, moving onto the Jumbles next. Dinner has been ordered for tonight from Texas Roadhouse. Other than that a quiet day is likely.
I think I have had bunnies nesting in my back yard; there is a hole that seems to never go away despite dirt being dumped in it, and I have spotted baby bunnies on an occasion or two. If they don’t make a mess, I’m not bothering them.
Only getting to 60F today, but back in the 70’s tomorrow.
Everybody have a good Sunday.
**FCD **approved of the pancakes, as did daughter and Roxy. I opted out since I kinda overate last night.
Time to shower and don presentable clothing…
Finally getting some thunderstorms and heavy rain. It has been a long time since it rained here. And Buddy Boy is skeered of it. He is panting and shaking and just miserable. I wouldn’t care if it rained all day except for him being afraid.
What to do on a Sunday? At some point I need to run to the store for a few things.
I hope everyone has a great day!
Aww…poor Buddy. Give him cuddles for me please butters.
metal mouse, once your Kindle and tablet are up and running, you will find a whole lot of free/low cost reading available.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasting and fixing to do not much of anything today. For the virtual potluck, I’ll bring what I’ve got already made for this evening’s supper: a nice cucumber salad. (2 English cucumbers, 1/2 a red onion, chopped fresh dill, 1/2 c. rice vinegar, 1 c. water, 1 tsp. sugar or stevia [I use stevia], 1/2 tsp. salt. Slice the cukes and onions very thinly [I use the slice blade on the spiralizer], mix the rest of the ingredients together and pour over the veggies. Refrigerate until mealtime.).
Bear in mind that it’s not even 0700 yet, and I’ve only been out of bed for one cuppa joe minutes. I read that as ‘sugar or sativa (I use sativa)’.
It rained buckets all day yesterday but this morning the sun is out. I woke up feeling blue and had a little weep. I don’t know why. I was able to ride my horse yesterday and it so much fun. I loved being able to be with her. I am allowed to go to the barn today but I just don’t have the energy. I don’t even feel like eating. I will be fine and this will pass. I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling like this.
Red, I have approximately 1,200 book in my personal library, reading is not a problem. But when I travel (someday), it would be nice to have something compact to read…
Jumbles solved and fast broken, so all is well. Think I need to run the dishwasher today (from once every 8-9 days to twice a week shows how much eating in I’m doing).
Butters, our dachshund, when I was a kid, used to hide behind the couch (just enough room for her to snuggle in there) and refuse to come out until the storm passed. Extra skriches to Buddy.
I’ve been here almost 17 years now ( ), and I’ve only seen a few wild rabbits. I’ve seen them up the street a few times over the years as they hopped across the road and into the bushes, but they were fairly rare sights. The last couple of weeks is the first time I’ve seen them in the yard, and yesterday was the first one I’ve seen one hanging out in the front yard. I’m getting used to their small size. What’s fascinating to me is how small their ears are. There’s a guy on the next street that has a couple of pet rabbits he lets out in the yard, and the new-ish neighbours two doors down have at least one pet rabbit. (They’re building a hutch in their back yard.) These pet rabbits have large floppy ears. When I lived in the desert, there were jackrabbits with long erect ears. These little brown bunnies have small erect ears. They don’t look like what I’m used to.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. It rained overnight.
One of the Pool Bunnies was roaming around this morning. And when I went to the pet place to get feed for the critters, they had a small white rabbit there. I ran, since I forgot to bring The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch with me.
My Kindle is 20 years old, and still ticking. And I haven’t seen any baby bunnies this year, but probably a good thing, since Gordie likes to pee on them.:dubious:

I planted a bunch of radish seeds in an 8-inch pot last week. Now they’re sprouting, and I don’t know what to do with them. The seed packet says to thin them so that the plants are 1 or 2 inches apart. I don’t have anyplace to thin them to. Maybe I’ll just let them grow and see what happens.
Today’s long-winded rambling:
I know I mentioned that one of my coaster club friends passed away and they were doing a drive-through visitation. I had no idea what to expect so, in case you’re interested, here’s how it worked:
I drove into the parking lot and stopped at a staff member who gave me an instruction sheet, a postcard, and a prayer card. I then followed the row of cones and was directed by another staff member to get in the end of the line and when my turn came, I stopped under a portico, where the family members (in gloves & masks) were waiting behind a rope. Behind the family were double doors leading into the funeral home, and just inside those doors was the casket, surrounded by flowers. It was tilted so that I could see the deceased. I rolled down my passenger window and exchanged a few words with the husband, and he rested his hand on the edge of the door. I figured we weren’t supposed to touch so I just rested my hand beside his for a moment. He then stepped back, I said a quick prayer and drove off. It was quite surreal.
And the postcard that I mentioned above? On the instruction sheet, it said that they couldn’t have a guest book because it couldn’t be sanitized so everyone got a prepaid postcard addressed to the husband and those would serve as the family’s guest book.
In other news, I mentioned that my neighbors have gotten chickens. They assembled the new coop yesterday and didn’t take my suggestion to put it at the end of the yard where the chickens could entertain my cat (and I informed her that we are not getting chickens). I asked if they were concerned about the feral cats and raccoons getting the chickens but they said their 6 chickens should be able to defend themselves as a group. I have serious doubts about that.
They also told me they plan to dig up most of the grass and put in a large garden and some fruit trees. I looked into their yard and asked where they were going to put the trees. “Oh, they’ll be dwarf fruit trees.” They also plan to get a second dog so they want to leave some of the grass for them to pee on. They also have a firepit in the yard and I’ve seen them have 5-6 friends over to sit around it. Note that their entire lot is 3,150 sq. ft. Deduct from that the house, detached garage and walkways beside the house and garage, and a quick calculation tells me that can’t leave them with more than about 1,600 sq. ft of open yard, possibly less. I have news for them – their yard is NOT The Tardis.
In yet other news, I’ll be reaching my 25th anniversary at work on May 1 and I received the “gift catalog” we get on 5-year anniversaries. It’s got an odd assortment of things, some of which are nice but most of which I don’t need or want - everything from a pressure washer to jewelry to an inflatable kayak. And then on the last page – a faux leather pet sofa. I showed it to the cat and told her she wasn’t getting that either. I am turning out to be a cruel cat slave - no chickens and no cat couch.
Hooray. I was finally able to enter my banking information. I wound up having to tick the “received refund” box but put 0$ in as the amount since we carried overr to this year $695. We always have to pay quarterly so this is why they didn’t have our banking info I guess. Anyway, I will get my money sooner.
Storms are over we really needed that rain.
Happy Sunday!
It’s a chilly wet rainy day.
Lily came by for a playdate, but she won’t be back until Firday.
We are hoping the park has opened by then.
I can’t get warm today, I’m all wrapped up in a blanket, don’t even want to bring my hands out to type.
grrrrrrrr
Just finished making what was supposed to be a mask sized for a man. A *little *man, maybe. So I need to create a new pattern. Later. I need a break.
I used to love sewing. It’s not fun any more.
I need to go get buns for the pulled poke. And maybe beans. So, off to Food Lion!
Not being much of a baker, I always thought that scratch biscuits would be more trouble than they were worth. I like the description put forth by our own Dung Beetle who calls store bought biscuits “Whomp Biscuits” because you whomp them on the counter to open them. I decided that today was the day. I made old fashion buttermilk biscuits from scratch this morning to have with sausage and country gravy. I got the recipe from a YouTube channel called The Hillbilly Kitchen. They were delicious! They were easy to make and came out with beautiful flaky layers.
No more "Whomp Biscuits " for us!
This has led me to question the need for store bought pancake mix. Sorry Aunt Jemima, we will no longer need your product.

[ul][li]Cut two slices of bacon into about 32 bits and put them in a 1.5 quart pot. (I used thick bacon today.)[/li][li]Crumble some bulk sausage into the pan.[/li][li]Render on low-ish heat, until you have most of the fat and the piggy is cooked.[/li][li]Add about a tablespoon of flour and whisk. Continue cooking for a few minutes.[/li][li]Add a little bit of milk, and whisk. Add some more milk, and whisk. Add enough milk to make the desired amount of gravy.[/li][li]Put about 15 grinds of black pepper (for my table-top mill; YMMV), a pinch of kosher salt, and a dash of cayenne pepper into the pot.[/li][li]Bring just to a boil, and then simmer until thickened. If it’s still too thin, mix a little cornstarch with a little bit of cold water and whisk it in.[/ul][/li]Serve over biscuits, with scrambled eggs.
And that’s today’s breakfast.
