I am sorry for yelling at you, I worry about you because I know you get distracted easily and I want to save you from having to pay for your roof without help.
Every time I pick up surplus produce I have some mental grumbling going on because I so wish I could share the bounty with you and shoe.
Shoe, I hope your job search lands you somewhere they value you like we do. You deserve that. BTW, what’s your shoe size? Asking for a friend.
Hubs likes to keep us well stocked with garlic and jalapeno stuffed green olives. It’s cheaper to order 4 jars a time. Which come in glass bottles. Our contract mail carrier despises us.
the same ones that ship 500 single k cups in shredded newspaper … …
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave
Had to deal with that too, yesterday.
After having to pour out 12 glass covered bottles of Top Chico out of a wrecked case, I kinda stand with him on that. ![]()

We has a second t-storm move thru last night, and a second lightning strike pretty close by. I went out this morning - nothing on the roof but a few leaves, so no clue what the noise we heard was. There’s at least one large branch down in the back yard - I’ll inspect better later when I’m in proper clothing and not just robe and slippers.
MetalMouse - glad your leak was a relatively quick find-and-fix. I don’t understand how plumbing in slabs can develop leaks, but obviously it does. Since we’re on a well, it’s not an issue for us - the water line comes thru the front wall, runs along the basement ceiling, then goes to the holding tank. Twelve years ago, a new well cost us $8K - no clue what it would cost today, but I’m hoping we don’t need one any time soon.
BBBoo - I second JtC’s suggestion about a second estimate/opinion. Fingers crossed for a favorable insurance outcocme!
It was 71° muggy degrees when I went to look at the roof. Forecast is for mid-80s and sun, which should make for a nice swim after boat work. That’s pretty much my day ahead.
Happy Thursday!!
Morning, mumpers! It’s just about still morning here, and 16c/60f outside with isolated showers. The weather app says “Hey, rain! How about you get fucked?” which seems a bit severe to me! No rain here yet, I am working from home today so the laundry’s on, the cats are fed and fussed, the litter trays are clean and I am busy avoiding the stuff I don’t want to look at.
BBBoo I agree too when it comes to major and costly repairs. Second opinions are always useful, especially if you are going to throw it at your insurance people.
nellie have some more {{{{{hugs}}}}}
metalmouse sorry to hear about the leak and the upheaval with the repairs too.
Wheelie cute baby! I would pronounce her name “Fee-bee”, just like my friend’s cat who is also a Phoebe.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 74 Amurrkin out with light rain with a predicted high of 94 and rainy(ish) for the day. Fine by me, cause I have nowhere Ineed or want to go. I shall be most happy to stay inside and dry. We all know that da bear is not opposed to major sloth. Sup shall be burgers 'n fixin’s and fries.
MetalMouse seems like the leak was a pretty quick fix. Here’s hopin’ the bill won’t bring on a case of the vapors.
Boo do get two or three estimates before submittin’ a claim. If a roofer can say it’s fresh or relatively new damage that will definitely be in your favor. Of course, this is comin’ from someone who trusts exactly one roofer where he lives.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Thursday Y’all!
Morning all. Thanks for the good thoughts on the leak. Plumbers will be back today sometime to concrete over the patches and put the sink back. At least unlike the last time the carpet is fine and they did have to tear out any wall panels. Still waiting to see what the final bill will be…
Rain seems to have left the premises, heading for 82F today. Might make it to the gym depending how long the repair work takes. Otherwise it’s hang around the house day.
Boo, hope the roof is covered; not sure if this work will or not, I’ll discuss it with my insurance once the work is completed.
{{nellie}}, wish something could scratch that itch for you.
OK, onward into the day.
I am in Omaha, just fifty miles or so from BBBoo. We had no hail in my neighborhood but we were just lucky. We did our morning walk yesterday at the Laurentzen Botanical Gardens and there were leaves down all through the place and the rose and peony gardens were hit hard.
So being a bit prone to overthinking, in the course of prep to go to my appointment with new PCP in a few hours, I’m dropping things into the shoulder bag I’ll be using as they occur to me. Stuff like my blood pressure monitor (in case doctor wants to see it), a couple of bottles of water (gonna be a hot day), extra masks, wallet… I’ve also availed myself of Kaiser’s messaging system to send my doctor a copy of the monitoring spreadsheet I’ve been maintaining for about six weeks now. Trying to figure out if there’s anything else. I do know that phone/earbuds/keys will be in pants pockets and the tablet slides into the bag right before I leave.
Buddy has asked to go out once or twice in about 36 hours. I think he’s moved in. ![]()
Happy Thorsday!
It’s a bright 75 degrees outside. Supposed to get up to 76, so I guess this is how the day will be.
Nice at the park this morning. Five people and six dogs. Chuckie the unneutered pit showed up, but he is well behaved.
No park or daycare yesterday. I forgot to call the daycare, we have to make reservations now, and I felt like sleeping in, so I did. Then took a nap later in the day.
Some people pop pills, some people pour a drink, I take a nap. Or eat chocolate.
Phoebe = Fee-bee. Greek for bright, pure, or shining.
Cute baby!
Glad your plumbing problem wasn’t too much of a mess, MetalMouse
I’ve known a few people who had radiant heating with pipes that ran through the concrete slab. HUGE mess when one of those pipes broke.
{{{Nellie}}}
Hope your treatment works Sunny
My mother went for chemo yesterday and then to talk with her doctor.
The news is not good. The cancer is growing and spreading.
She also has MRSA and phlebitis.
Her doctor suggested she look into palliative care.
She still has options, she can elect to get some stronger drugs for her chemo, but her doctor thinks she should think about quality of life, because the stronger chemo is not going to be easy.
I think he knows that there is really nothing to do at this point. He has been her doctor for a long time and she said this is the first time he looked defeated.
I think she should just stop the chemo and let it go. I won’t say it to her though, even though she keeps asking me what to do. I know my sister and nieces will want her to do everything she can, and they’ll say I don’t care and just want mom to die. No, I don’t want her to die. She has always been healthy and I figured she had at least another 10 years.
However, I don’t see much point in continuing treatments. They are hard on her, even if the chemo didn’t have side effects. Just getting up, getting a shower, and getting dressed to go out makes her tired. She tries to time eating and drinking so she won’t soil her diaper in the doctor’s office. My niece’s ex-bf had to carry her into the house yesterday because she was too weak to walk three steps up to the door. Going out 2-3 days a week is hard on her.
She’s 86 years old, even if she beats the cancer, she will never be what she was.
I told her last night, don’t let them guilt you into doing something you don’t want to do.
Her decision, I’ll support it either way.
I think stronger chemo will kill her faster than the cancer will, and it won’t make a damn bit of difference anyway.
So, I got that out of my system.
Today will be like all the other days. Irk, and some laundry, and other bullshit stuff around the house.
My son starts OT next week, so he’ll be irking four days a week instead of three. He says his OT day is Firday, I’m hoping he’s wrong and it’s Moonday.
He is such a doofus sometimes. Last week he asked me what day he gets paid. I said Firday, why? A new girl asked him what day is payday and he didn’t know.
I guess it makes sense when your pay is direct deposit and mom handles the bills.
On my ToDo List, make him start paying the bills so he knows how to do it. He needs to start ordering groceries too.
And I just got a call that my appointment has been rescheduled.
To the 21st.
Spill! Spill!
Boo I hope insurance company ponies up for your roof.
Yes!!!
\color{purple}{\text {Shoe}} What happened at the old job? Tea? Spill?
Take pictures now! My insurance company wants me to show them pictures of the torn up walls and floors and such where my contractor is fixing a water leak and damage.
Nettie Yay for Buddy and Boo for Kaiser! I’m glad you’re a member now, but how disappointing that they rescheduled at the last minute. ![]()
sari {{{ hugs }}}
Not much going on here. The Culligan guys are coming by to service the water softener. I need to order groceries. This is the excitement of my day.
Take care everyone, Happy Thursday!
Oh, I’ll still donate. It didn’t actually hurt so much as just feeling weird having that needle wiggled all around inside my arm.
Mrs W said the same thing about drinking water. I’d only had coffee beforehand so that may have had something to do with it. Next time, I’ll keep that in mind.
Shoe, I join the chorus politely (or not so much) requesting the spillage of tea. Give our pearls a workout!
Just got a text from a friend with an extra ticket to the Giants game… in 3 hours. I have a lot to do this weekend, but I’m pushing it all back to tomorrow. It’s going to be a beautiful afternoon, and I’m going to get to as many games as I can while I still live here!
I finally got to meet my new cardiologist yesterday. I like this guy. He explains things! He also told me why almost all the specialists and PCP type doctors disappeared recently. The local hospital in The Dalles, Mid Columbia Medical Center, wants to build a new hospital. They were associated (somehow) with Oregon Health & Science University. Well, they (MCMC) need to be associated with someone bigger in order to build their new hospital. Prolly has to do with funding, he didn’t really explain that part. Anyway, their association with OHSU was terminated and OHSU pulled all of their specialists back to Portland. So now MCMC is apparently associated with Adventist Health, but they still need to build up their stable of specialists on this side of the Cascades. At least that’s what I took away from his explanation. I had a whole brain full of information about stuff that was more important to me at the time, so I may have gotten some of that muddled.
I just hope they get it sorted soon.
Oh, and my heart is behaving pretty well (for an ancient relic) thankyouverymuch.
Hugs, wet salmon, etc. to everybody.
Hope you find suitable employment, or win the lottery, soon, Shoe.
Home for lunch before heading back to the boat. We removed a bunch more abandoned wires (or harvested copper, as another boat owner put it!!) There are still some more that have to go, but we have to do it slowly and carefully so as not to accidentally remove something we shouldn’t. I have to say, having a/c aboard is really nice!
We’ll head back in a bit, do a little more work, then take a dip in the pool. No clue what I’ll do for supper - probably just forage.
Afternoon all. The plumbers are done and the concrete patches are drying, the only thing left is to get the hallway carpet re-attached (that’s scheduled for Tuesday). Financial damage was less that $2,000, so it was affordable, but still thinking about a claim since they had to dig up part of the floor (and I did take pictures, Sunny). Thinking about heading to the gym in a bit since I missed it yesterday–need to get the habit restarted.
*Wheelie, enjoy the game!
Sari, don’t know what to tell you. If your Mom still has her wits about here (and apprarently she does) it’s her call, but I tend to concur with you, at 86 and a cancer that advanced, even winning will likely lead to her demise shortly after. Crappy situation.
Ok, need to put on the gym shorts and head over. All y’all take care.
I slept long and hard and awoke with little itching, so thank heavens for that. I’ll stay on higher doses of antihistamines today to make sure it doesn’t get a foothold. I don’t know if the injections triggered it or stopped it. So weird. I’m relieved the misery appears to be over. Hope I’m not speaking too soon!
@BippityBoppityBoo , absolutely shop around for roofers! Years ago, we had hail the size of baseballs, and me alone with the baby and the Very Good Dog who’d tried to warn me. The insurance paid for roof repair and re-shingling, even though there was old damage we were going to have to repair anyway. If there’s a lot of hail damage in your area, you may not need to shop around because roofers know almost without going up there that there’ll be new damage. That was my experience.
JtC: thank you so much! I do have the babushka cart decked out but since I don’t take it to the gym, etc., maybe I need to wear brighter colors. Apparently Stop sign red wouldn’t work, though. An article I read a few months ago said pedestrian fatalities have surged due to driver anger, social disengagement, anxiety, and more drinking. Here in WA, pedestrian fatalities jumped 21% in 2020, despite fewer people on the road that year. And nationwide, it’s up 46% in the last decade. I’m going to invent walker tanks.
{{{{{{sari}}}}}} Dealing with your mom’s situation is hard enough without the nieces’ recriminations, which must come from their own fear of death plus naivete about the cost in pain and indignity such harsh chemo exacts during the few weeks it might (or might not) prolong life. Tell them to read up on aggressive chemotherapy and why 90% of docs say they’d refuse it for themselves. Bless you for taking such good care of your mom despite your own heartbreak. She must be very proud of you.
Now I’ve babbled on so long, I have to go. More later, and I’ll try to be more concise.
Concise not needed! I love reading everyone’s posts.
I’m glad the itching is gone.
Afternoon everyone. 70-ish here, just hanging around the campground (still in Smokies National park area).
A few have waved and answered my posts, and apologies for not responding appropriately. Still struggling with intermittent wifi, no cell signal, and a stupid bumblebee that thinks my glasses are a flower. Damn thing won’t go away despite quarts of Deet – I think it likes the stuff.
Hopefully signal lasts long enough to send this. Wish all well and will try a more complete reply later…
