A D Day MMP

The recipes I found mention milk, lemon juice and salt, plus heat. That’s it.

I think I’ll do the yogurt again on Monday as it’s one of the days I’m working from home.

Read lots, saw a cute baby and clutched some pearls. Can’t type well on my phone so I’ll wish you all a wonderful Thursday and go back to reading.

I’m so glad I played a little hooky yesterday: it was really great to see everyone, but also we did some shopping and I discovered that I fit into size 8 jeans. :exploding_head: I don’t think I have ever worn a single-digit size – not even in high school! I also got a couple of shirts that are actually the right size. The friend who was in the dressing room with me took a pic of me in the jeans and one of the shirts, and OMG the way I look now is so crazy. I hadn’t bought any new tops yet and have been wearing my old 3X and 2X shirts, so it’s been hard to really see that change. I can’t stop looking at the picture my friend took…I don’t quite believe it!

(BTW, I’m grateful to y’all for the ability to share things like this: I won’t post anything weight-loss-related on my FB page, because I did once and there were way too many well-meaning-but-annoying people who thought I needed medical advice.)

I lived in England from '85 to '85, and haven’t been allowed to donate blood since 1999 because the FDA got worried about mad cow. That ban was recently lifted in Australia, but not the U.S. (yet). It’s frustrating.

Thank you for asking! She seems to be all better now. She got her last metronidazole pill on Tuesday evening, she’s back on her usual food and schedule, and her poops have been solid for the past few days. I’m planning to take her back to daycare – just for one day – next week. :crossed_fingers:

I’ll be working as an election officer in less than two weeks, which is always a 15-16 hour day: normally I’d kennel her the night before and the night of, but a stay like that is what preceded her recent GI issues. I’m aware of the “post hoc ergo propter hoc” fallacy, but she just got better and I’m inclined to just leave her home alone this election day. Not ideal, but she’s an old girl now and I think it would actually be less stressful than two nights in the kennel. She’ll be boarding in late July, for about a week, when I go to my family reunion.

The time I spend worrying about this dog…!

:people_hugging:

Walked 20k steps today mainly at the Tower of London. I got a bit of a redneck tan on the back of my neck. Went for burgers at Gordon Ramsay’s Street Burgers joint. Darn good burger.

Sari, I am so very, very sorry for what you’re going through. You and your mom have been through a LOT and this is a really scary time. Hugs to you both. Be kind to yourself. And tell the rest of the family that they can stuff it - it’s ultimately your mom’s decision, and I agree with you - I felt the same way when my father passed away.

Sunny, I must have totally missed something. I’m an asshat. What procedure did you have? I hope you recover very quickly!

This is what I get for leaving for a while.

We scattered a portion of my dad’s ashes this weekend. It was a disaster. I mean, if it had been part of a movie, it would’ve been nothing short of hilarious. And I have a good deal of morbid humor about it - I think dad would have as well - but hiding an urn in my jacket and then listening to my younger sister scream when she realized that when someone is cremated there are still bits that don’t turn to ash was not how I envisioned this working. I’m sorry, Dad. I wish our family were normal. Or at least partially normal.

talky You are NOT an asshat. I’m sorry there were a few snags with the ash scattering. I did think of the ash scattering scene in The Big Lebowski while I read your post, so you’re right about your experience being movie worthy. It doesn’t sound like much fun to actually go through, however. Why were you hiding the urn?

Well, we did something wrong. Several circuits are not working, so apparently we disconnected something that we shouldn’t have. So we’ve got troubleshooting ahead. rah.

But we had a refreshing swim with the grands. Now we’re home to chill. I’s tahred!

Me, too! Maker me clutch my pearls!

Re: I’m listening to all the ideas.Thanks. So far have gotten one roofer out to do an estimate. I was tipped off by a neighbor whose roof was found to be damaged. Three house down the street. So it wasn’t a predatory roofer knocking on. My door looking for business-it was a neighbor who was looking out for me, saying, ‘you should have your roof checked”. Pictures have taken. I have to admit, the idea that I could climb a ladder to take picture gave me a fun giggle. My kids have forbidden me to ride a bicycle, a ladder would give them the vapors!

FCM At least you just un-hooked something. I’ve said before–keep the smoke inside the wires.

Tough day at the shop today. I’m taking a bunch of old flooring, looks to me like it was one a workshop floor, based on the paint spatters and extraordinary number number of tacks in it, and turning it into nice flooring. But it’s heavy, and there’s a lot of it. I got sweaty and smelly. But, If I do this nice, I’m getting a couple more jobs from the client.

Elsewise, read much, retained little, so congrats and hugs and good lucks to those that need’s 'em.

Glad your birthday was fun shoe.

{{{sari and mom}}} I hope that she will be at peace with her decision.

Yay for the itch subsiding somewhat nellie!

Yay for Bailey’s improvement oopsie!

Irked back in special projects today, as we got our June shipment in. Took Nelson to the dogpark after I got home. There was a whole herd of little guys there and he had a good run with some of them.

Sloth is definitely on the agenda for this evening.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Howdy Y’all! I think we took sloth to new heights (or does one take sloth to new lows?) today. We were actually more like lumps for the most part. It was fun! Plus sup got cooked and et and the kitchen cleanded up, so we did so a little sump’n productive.

Sari I hope your mom makes the decision she feels is best for her. Hospice/pallative care is a really good thing should she choose that. My own mom was in hospice care for almost the last month of her life and it did make her passing easier. Plus those who do hospice work are some really wonderful folk!

Nellie yay for way less itchiness!

MetalMouse glad you feel good about the plumbin’ costs. It’s still a lot, but it could have been way worse.

Oopsie yay for Bailey feelin’ better and for your new threads!

WetOne did you get to see a beheadin’ or have they stopped doin’ that these days?

Talky sounds like quite an adventure. I like the vision of you sneakin’ the urn in to wherever the ashes were scattered. I take it this is a place that would frown upon such, which makes it even better.

:face_with_symbols_over_mouth: I found a tick crawling on our bed. Unfortunately I gave it a ‘burial at sea’ Before it occurred to me to look at pictures to see what kind it was. (hint: there are no good kinds.)
Filthy, evil creatures they are. Hates them I do. <(-_-)>

No, please! Whatever you do, please don’t be more concise. I need all the nellie I can get.

It’s been raining all day, so no 2.5 mile walk, no chopping wood, no mowing lawns, no exercise of any kind.

I had Herbsaint shaved beef salad for dinner. There was a little bit of dressing left in the condom-mint bottle. More than enough as it turned out. But I made a fresh batch of dressing anyway. The problem is that the bottle is 12 ounces, and the recipe starts with a cup anna half of mayonnaise. So yeah, there’s extra dressing. Fortunately, there’s also extra shaved beef and Spring mix salad. Wifey had popcorn.

A more regular work day today, plus no Captain Queeg, so 130% sunnier day. Having a Manhattan. Also:
Me: < changes out sheets and comforter >
Gordie: “WE DO TOGETHER!” < flips over sleeping towel >

{{{{sari and sariMom}}}}

I went there, too.
Sorry it didn’t go quite as planned, Talky.

Statements like this make Hyman Rickover spin in his grave.

Glad Baily is doing better, Oopsie.

Awwwww

Evening all. For some reason I felt like lying down about 1:30pm and ended up sleeping until after 4pm; guess my body decided to catch up some short nights all at once. To tire myself out for this evening I went to the gym after dinner and rode 15 miles/600 calories on two different stationary bikes, so that should help find slumberland tonight.

FCM, between you and FCD both being engineers IIRC, you’ll find that circuit in no time…wether you’ll still be on speaking terms by then remains to be seen… :imp:

I strongly endorse this remark.

BBBoo, I can make it 3-4 steps up a ladder, climbing up to my roof and taking pictures…you’re a better person than I am, Gunga Boo…

Talky, things happen. If it was your Dad’s wish to have his ashes scattered, then you did things right, even if the Demon Murphy interfered. I have it in my will to have my ashes scattered at the site of my parents graves.

Wet One, that’s a lot o’walking  . And whiel I’m not the greatest fan of Mr. Ramsay, his burgers do sound interesting.

Oopsie, glad Bailey is doing better and I think you’re making the right decision on leaving her at home. And congrats on the size reduction; I still have a long way to go but my 2XL jeans now need a belt and one that goes to the next-to-last hole to keep them up.

nellie, glad the itching has abated; hope it stays away.

OK, have chewed down an apple (see, I can eat smart now and then…) so some more internettin’ and then head off to bed again. Catch y’all on Firday.

Welllll…I was hiding the urn because we were scattering the ashes at a private country club and they weren’t exactly thrilled to have us there even though they didn’t know why we were there.

On the way back home my brother and sister stopped at a dispensary and were too high to do anything else for the rest of the evening (I don’t really blame them even though I don’t partake).

Okay, seeing that typed out it is kind of funny. The weekend involved remains and (legal) drugs. It makes me sound far more interesting than I am.

The weekend involved illegal remains and legal drugs.

More accurate and much more interesting, LOL!

I walked 2 miles, took a bus, walked .5 miles, got the spare contact lens, and walked back to the bus. I didn’t realize what a looooong ride it was back–an hour. Then I walked to the gym, so I did get my 7 miles in. I think you passed me on your stationary bike, MetalMouse. It rained all day, so maybe you were swimming.

My daughter and her hubs flew cross-country for a wedding today. You know it’s a rough flight when the off-duty pilot next to you gets queasy. I told her last weekend to get motion sickness pills. She forgot. :roll_eyes:She flew quite a bit from babyhood and never needed them growing up but does now, whereas her half-brother couldn’t travel a mile without 'em and ended up in the air force.

Oopsie, yay for a better Bailey!

wordy, I love that you surreptitiously scattered ashes at the country club. Since you don’t do weed, I hope you had a nice glass of Italian Cure-All (vino) later.

Flyboy, Mrs. LA must be a twiglet. Does the salad dressing contain herbsaint, or is it just called that?

Aww. I assure you, that’s exactly how the rest of us feel about you, only more so.

@Ivorybill treated me to lunch at Herbsaint when I was in New Orleans one day. I emailed Herbsaint, and they sent me the recipe for the dressing.

Horseradish dressing

  • 1 ½ cups mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons creole mustard (or whole grain mustard)
  • 4 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (we use Louisiana brand hot sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons cane syrup (this is a Louisiana product, and may not be available – you can substitute a mild molasses)
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

Put shaved roast beef on a plate. Add with salad greens. Put on the dressing, and top with French’s Fried Onions.
