Hi, all. It’s been about ten months since I last posted - I’ve been taking a break - but I had to come back to let you all know that we’ve been traduced, slandered, yes, even denigrated on YouTube. Unacceptable!
I’ve been watching a YT channel called Chilling Scares, which covers real-life creepy stories, in videos titled “5 Most Disturbing Reddit Threads", “4 Unsolved Missing Person Cases With Horrifying Last Phone Calls”, and others of that nature. Today I clicked on “4 Most Disturbing Early Internet Rabbit Holes", and was surprised to see the familiar blue and yellow of our beloved SDMB.
Oh God, I thought, a normie has discovered the pan-fried semen and toilet paper rolls! But no, it was merely a post asking about a website called seemerot. com that purported to show a live stream of a woman in a casket decomposing (spoiler: it was fake).
But what truly shocked me was the narrator’s opening words, where he introduced “a post on a now-defunct message board”
Naturally, I immediately went to the comments to protest that that the SDMB was alive and kicking, thankyouverymuch! But I am still of course shaken and outraged. Chilling Scares, it’s pistols at dawn, sirrah!
The “narrator” is AI bullshit designed to bring in viewers. It doesn’t give a flying fuck if you click on it to praise it or if you click on it to bitch it out, as long as you click on it.
I don’t think so. I’ve seen plenty of AI-narrated videos, and this one feels real to me, although I could be wrong, of course. Nevertheless, I don’t mind engaging, as it’s a good channel, and whoever he is, he prefers the logical answer over the paranormal or supernatural one. For example, one video debunks famous “ghost" photos, doing enough research to show the rational explanation for each. Anotherone looks at the urban legend of Charlie No-Face, a faceless figure said to wander the roads of western Pennsylvania at night. Turns out he was a real person, a man who had been horribly disfigured by touching a power transmission line as a child, blinding him and destroying his face. Nevertheless, he was a kind, friendly man who walked at night to avoid scaring people, and amiably chatted with anyone he did encounter.
It’s fun channel, if you want to creep yourself out without encouraging woo.
