A fact-filled MMP

… I’ve heard of water falling from the sky… I even have memories of it, I think…

My home town is right next door to a desert called Las Bardenas which has been used as Arizona in movies; water falling from the sky is extremely rare here. It’s one of the cool things about living in this area: within 90 minutes tops we have snowy mountains, vertical climbing walls (both with and without snow), flat daisy-filled prairies surrounded by hills (you need to go farther to get real flat), enough old buildings to bore a historian, several different kinds of forests (including some with trees that don’t grow anywhere else, Pino Pirenaico, from which the masts of Spanish Navy tallship Príncipe de Asturias were made). Now, if you’re into open spaces with no hills in sight, don’t come here: you want central Castilla-León, which is the kind of place where you can find a castle occupying the only hill in sight.

ETA: memory, that’s size=1 for tiny or =7 for huge.

The mammogram wasn’t as scary as I expected. Uncomfortable, yes, but then I remembered the people I know whose lumps weren’t as benign as mine, and quit my whining. I should be getting the results later this week.

Afterward Mom and I went to Trader Joe’s, dropped a bunch of cash, and even managed to buy some cut daffodil buds at the register. They opened within hours and look so pretty in the glass of water I put them in. Also went to Michael’s and bought a couple pounds of premixed soap to make soaps as gifts for Mother’s Day, as well as some soap dyes and fragrances. I should probably expand on this in the “expensive hobbies” thread. The Diva conned me and my mom into buying her a lotion-making kit. I don’t mind, since I know this is the makings of her Mother’s Day gift to my sister.

Off to put the Princess to bed; more state testing tomorrow.

Up, caffeinated, off to work. Canes play tonight. We’ll see if we can beat the 127 decibels we hit last round.

Glad you had a good time, memory.

Good thoughts for Lucky

Blurfle.

Stayed up much too late drinking outside with my husband and our neighbor. It was such a lovely breezy evening. The dogs behaved and it was nice.

I forgot to set my alarm, but I woke up in time, if a little rushed. I still was 10 minutes late, but I’m the first one in the office! Nobody knows if I’m late.

Need water. I’m dehydrated.

{{{LiLi}}}

That sounds like a lovely place to live, Nava.

Congrats on good grades, people!

That’s all I can remember, so hugs and smooches and chocolate for everyone.

Up, caffeinated and at work. Much to my consternation. The work thing, that is.

Congrats to BusDaughter on her degree! Whee!

I’m feeling a tad iffy this morning; my tummy is rumbling and not in a good way, a queasy way. Bah, I probably should have stayed home. I’m just gonna take it easy today i think.

Morning. Nothing interesting from me. KT, though, is judging some sort of robot-building competition at a local community college (I’m not sure though if it’s college kids or younger kids building the robots) today. His job let him have the day off, and it’s close to home so he didn’t have to drive all the way to work. So good stuff and it should be fun.

We went for a walk last night and saw that the baby geese on our neighborhood pond had hatched. They’re soooooo cute when they’re little and tiny and fuzzy.

Our next-door neighbors walked by while we were eating out on our patio last night and asked if we could hear their new subwoofer 'cause they didn’t want to bother us. (We’re in a townhouse so share a wall with them.) We said yeah, but it’s not bad. But they were amused and a bit taken aback when KT said, “You play Rock Band, don’t you? That’s when we can hear it.” They decided if we can identify what they’re doing that maybe it’s too loud. It’s really not a problem for us, though, because the subwoofer is in their entry-way living room area, which means it’s up against our entry-way living room area, and we don’t often spend time there so we don’t hear it much, and it definitely doesn’t bother us a story-and-a-half up in our bedroom. But it was funny that KT could identify Rock Band just from the bass coming through the wall.

Happy Hump Day to the MMP!!! That much nearer to the weekend. Here’s another fact for today that may or may not be true. But that’s…ah…um…er…

Fact: The word “lethologica” describes the state of not being able to remember the word you want.

Busy today, so what’s new. Appropriate comments to all.

Tupug

Happy Hump Day, everyone go hump something!!

GT, yes, selling fancy-pants jewelry at the same place. They made her a F/T offer, and she’s in an MIT program. She’ll stay there and take advantage, because it’s a LOT more than some grads are walking into the world with.

My stomach is all jibbity.

They just put out sanitizing hand wipes at work…

in the bathroom. :dubious:

Mornin’.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighbourhood. So much so that I left the house with bare legs for the first time this year. Exciting stuff. Of course, this means I’ll have to start shaving my legs regularly again, which doesn’t excite me nearly as much… my skin is annoyed with me.

Hope things are looking a little better today, Taters. It’s tough enough being overworked and underappreciated, but your boss is lucky to be alive right now IMO… I’d rip the head off anyone who actually suggested, in not so many words, that it’s my own fault that I’m stressed about it. Grrrrr.

mnemosyne, anyone who willingly gets that close to the waters of the St Laurent at this time of year has my full respect.

Hoping for a nice, unworrisome result on the boob-squishing, Lucky.

Yes, I knew that. I apparently neither previewed nor even re-read my post after hitting submit.

I’m not as sore as I thought I’d be… I think things will be a bit tougher tonight, with a different coach!

My BIL, my husband’s sister’s husband, has cancer.

This year sucks.

Wow! There is so much going on in here.

Going to dig around and get information on what is going on with LiLi because it seems serious and I want to send good thoughts.

So I’m now sorting through past MMPs and holy cow there are lots of new friends to be made and lots of stuff to keep track of.

I’m really enjoying being a part of this! Yay me!!

{{{{{{{{Soapy}}}}}}}}}}

{{Soapy}} I’ll be keeping you and your family in my thoughts. Hope they can treat it quickly and effectively… it’s amazing how much better they’ve gotten at treating cancer in the past few years.

Oy… LiLi, soapy, who’s next?

I wish I could declare a moratorium on all of this.

Right now, there’s a FedEx driver who’s wishing he took just three seconds longer at his last delivery. I’m sitting here attempting to explain to someone (via email) that Oracle databases are not the same thing as mainframe datasets, when I hear a deep <skreeeeeee> <whunk> outside. I look out, and there’s a FedEx truck with a newly mashed fender and a shiny new Mercedes attached to it.

The truck backs up a bit to free the car, which then moves over to the curb, and the truck follows. Hoo boy! The truck laid down skid marks nearly the full length of the truck, so it’s pretty obvious that the car cut him off, going from the right-hand lane to a parking garage entrance on the left. I wonder if the car driver’s insurance will also have to pay FedEx for all of those packages that aren’t going to make the 10:30 delivery promise?

The hot tub was in fine form and temperature last night. Yay!

Invisible Tenant is fast on the way to becoming Evicted Tenant. He announced his intent to find a new place in two to three months, and that he was going to buy his own food from now on. Since then, he’s quite simply been a prick and we’re about to chuck him out on his whiny ass. On the face of it, you’d think the $1000 he pays us each month would be a huge financial help, but between what he eats and how much water and electricity he consumes, we’re only going to be losing about $400 a month. Once he’s gone, our quality of life should rebound as he’s been really quite irritating.

Has anyone seen/heard from **kai **lately? If you’re out there, kai, please check in.

I’m not being terribly productive at work today. Blah.

Man, the cats are bratty this afternoon - they keep jumping on the counter, which is a major no-no, to inspect the thawing meatloaf and the strawberries that I need to clean for work tomorrow. I may have to kill one cat as a warning to the other… grrrrrr

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m ready for Firday. I think it’s mostly because of the grey, dreary, wet, icky weather we’ve had for the last 5 days or so. It really is depressing. In theory, we’ll see the big ball of fire in the sky tomorrow. But I’ve heard that song before…

Meatloaf and NOT-n-onions and something green for supper. Beyond that, I’m planning to veg. Because I can.

Oh, I’m sorry, Soapy.

Glad you like it here, Kricket. It’s a nice - and fun - group of people.

That sounds like a scary accident, gotti. Really, any run-in with a truck is unlikely to be fun.

Sounds like the kid has a good deal, MBG. Yay!

Went shopping and found some nice plants for me as well as nice plants for the park. And got home at a decent hour, too. Unfortunately, it’s raining, so I can’t work outside, but I’ve got plenty to keep me busy indoors.

Guess I should get moving with that. I know I’ve missed things I wanted to say, but I really need to get something accomplished here…

Extra hugs for all who need them. And even for those who don’t…
