Such is getting old. Do that when you’re 19, and you’re devilish and clever. Do it when you’re 36, and it "Oh, Dad! "
I know. Dad’s done it a few times too. I suppose it’s got to be passed on to the next generation (and inflicted on the next generation’s significant others) somehow, right?
My dad would totally do something like this.
My dad wouldn’t have, but my husband would.
Oh man. I am SO pulling that gag next time I’m in a fancy restaurant. High-larious.
I anticipated the objection about basil. Consider that mustard and wasabi are also herbs, as listed here. The OED defines condiment as "Anything of pronounced flavour used to season or give relish to food, or to stimulate the appetite. " So really, herbs and spices are a subset of condiments. And if you’re still not convinced, too bad. They’re my puns and I’ll do what I want, so nyah.
Anyway, today could’ve exploded in my face, but somehow it all worked out. I got the homework that was due at 5 pm done, and more importantly I think I made a very good impression on Dr. Sorkin of Syracuse University, who was giving a colloquium today, and I and several other undergraduates had lunch with him. Turns out he’s A) on the admissions committee for Syracuse’s grad program, and B) disappointed with the recent downward trend in students studying fundamental theory, as I told him I want to do. Sooooo, hopefully this will swing the pendulum in my favor.
Cornell and Penn State are official rejections. I’m remarkably unconcerned. I’ve still got six other schools with a good shot of letting me in. I need to make some more phone calls though.
And a very very merry un-birthday to you, welby. Getting anything good from friends/loved ones this year?
I have more work to do for tomorrow and I’m already very tired. whine
I got all kinds of bills in the $100 range, how many you want?
Thanks so much for helping me pay them off…
Don’t know him, but like him just the same. Yup. My kinda guy.
My dad would probably have taken it a little further, verbally at least, stopping just short of actually doing it
btw - meet my new grand-nephew Jonathan joined the world at 5pm today, at 7 lbs, 6 oz, 22 inches (and I think that’s my nephews hand on Jon’s stomach
ahhh…a fresh-squeezed baby.
That’s a little one, isn’t it? I don’t know baby.
it’s in the middle - it’s healthy - niece-in-law is a tiny person (well, half the size of her husband anyway) so the baby size seems appropriate to me
I had real food for dinner tonight! I threw a chicken breast some carrots and onions in my grill pan. Then I made a yogurt/roasted garlic/dill sauce to serve with it. I had to find a way to get some yogurt in there.
I am going to be so sick of yogurt.
well, it’s either the yogurt or acidophilus gelcaps
Hm. Actually, I could go for some yogurt. Part of that is because there’s only a little bit of rice and spaghetti left in the apartment with the roomie.
I’m grumpy. My hockey team lost last night, so we are out of the playoffs and I have no idea what I am going to do with myself until October. We are having one last get-together with the guys Friday night to say 'bye for the summer. I’ll get my game jersey then.
Happy Birthday, Welby.
Mr. Lissar talked to his mother tonight and found out that she’s had a mild stroke. Ack! We won’t find out the details until Friday.
I don’t know if I’ve wished it, but happy freaking birthday, Welby . I’d do the pretty colors for your name if i could bold it and do colors, but that kind of coding is beyond my mortal comprehension.
LL , sorry to hear about the in-law. Hope she’s doing well. Has she ever had any sorts of those conditions before?
Snakescatlady , what team? The Thrashers? Doesn’t matter anyways, my Red Wings are definitely in. The real season starts now anyways.
Nah - I’m minor league. The SPHL Columbus Cottonmouths.
I’m still grumpy. And knowing there are two louvered doors waiting for my attention and the paste stripper doesn’t help the grumpiness.
ll, hope your mil is ok.
Lissla, sorry to hear about your MIL. Hope “minor” is really “minor.”
rosie, awwwww, a baby. I always forget how little newborns are. But boy do they grow fast! Congratulations!
Sorry about those Snakes, SCL. You know October will be here before you know it!
Bumba, sorry about your friend. I was just about to ask if you were OK when you posted.
Sounds like that was a cool opportunity yesterday, Rifty. Is Amsterdam still a possibility, or is that a separate thing?
Smitty, I thought the butterfly crack was funny. Does that count?
I love the idea of a Laundry Fairy and a self-cleaning kitchen. I would get so many other things done!!!
Ashes[sup]2[/sup], feel better. Oh, and go stare down that Evil Eye and tell it to stop messing with your car!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, welby!!!
Work yesterday was ick. Just ick. Had the joy of being sidetracked by stupidity pretty much the whole day. All I can say is, I hope everyone takes their smart pills this morning! But I had a really nice lunch with some old friends and ran into another old friend at the restaurant. Which really helped me survive the day…
Well…gotta get up and get something done before I go off to work. Is it Friday yet?

Ooooh…I almost forgot. Our newspaper is having a “Pimp your Peep” contest! They had pictures of dressed up Peeps (one with a little motorcycle!) yesterday to provide inspiration.
